model filter?
Hi All,
Is there a way to filter / modify the output of a model class before
it''s returned to controller/view that''s calling it?
Example: I have a field phone_number which I always want to preformat
using the number_to_phone() helper....
Any help is appriciated.
Thanks!

ActionPack: number_to_phone error
Question about the number_to_phone function as provided by rails in actionpack:
http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionView/Helpers/NumberHelper.html
If I do this in my controller:

I get this error:
undefined method `number_to_phone'' for #<TicketsController:0xb7a2bfcc>
Whereas if I do this in my view:

error_messages_for trouble
I am trying so learn how to do custom validations.
The validation works as expected, but I can''t get "error_messages_for"
to display.
How is the name of the object supposed to be formated?
Where is this object created, the model or controller?
What am I doing wrong here?

RXML partial question
All,
I have a RXML template which renders partial RXML templates within it.
A snippet is below. The "xml" variable is the parent template''s Builder
variable. It is passed into the partial under the name "parent_xml".
Why can''t I use :locals => {.... :xml => xml ....} in my call to render
the partial? It seems like if I do use :xml => xml, it

How search engine friendly are RoR sites?
I am a total RoR virgin, and took my first steps this weekend into the
Ruby world. A lot of sites I create need to be as SEO friendly as
possible, particularly for google. Before I delve any further, can
anyone tell me how friendly the dynamic URLs or if there is the usual
rewrite mod for rugby?
Thanks

How to call a java function in rubyonrails method
Hi everyone,
I''m Italian and sorry for my english mistakes...
I''m developing a web-site using rubyonrails.
It''s REALLY COOL!
But I''m obliged to re-use some javascript functions.
Do you know where I can get the right documentation (and examples) in
order to integrate these two different environments?
Thanks,
Matteo.

replace unkown action with 404
is there a way to replace unkown action error with a pretty 404 page ?
I set the ErrorDocument 404 in .htaccess, however when someong goes to
http://www.mysite.com/bogus i would like it to show a 404 error instead of
just "Uknown action".
Is this possible with a rescue or something?

sanitize dangers
I''ve noticed that it is possible to pass javascript unaltered through
the sanitize function using CSS. For example:
sanitize( "<style
type=''text/css''>body{background-image:url(''javascript:window.alert(1)'')
}</style>" )
IE will execute the javascript. Firefox will not. I haven''t tried it
with any other browsers.

file and directory layout below app/models
Hiall,
Is it possible to organize my model files below app/models into
subfolders? E.g. I would like to put admin related models into their
own subfolder. This kind of structuring works for controllers and
views (scaffolding creates the right subfolder-model mappings), but
app/models always stays flat. I''d really like to be able to group my
code into logical, well packages :-) Yes, I
