problem installing centos 5.3 on IBM x3200 m2
Hi,
I am trying to install centos 5.3 on ibm x3200 m2 server. The problem
appears when the installer is about to finish the installation. It detects
the RAID correctly, but it doesn't finish formatting the root partition. I
tried the default partition layout and also a custom one, but it always ends
with the same message:
An error occurred trying to format /. this problem is serious and the

Upgrading drives in raid 1
I think I have solved my issue and would like some input from anyone who has
done this for pitfalls, errors, or if I am just wrong.
Centos 5.x, software raid, 250gb drives.
2 drives in mirror, one spare. All same size.
2 devices in the mirror, one boot (about 100MB), one that fills the rest of
disk and contains LVM partitions.
I was thinking of taking out the spare and adding a 500gb drive.

Astribank problem
H all...
I have an Astribank (8FXS/16FXO), IBM X3200 M2, Asterisk-1.6.2.1,
dahdi-linux-complete-2.2.1, libpri-1.4.10.2, centos-5.4 final.
My problem is, every time i unplug the astribank power supply, and
reconnect it, astribank cannot work again (lsusb result is 11x0)...
but, after reinstall the asterisk and dahdi, astribank will detected (lsusb result is 11x2)...
any suggestion?
Regard,

Upgrade to new drives in raid, larger
Hi all,
As part of my raid experience, I have yet to have to do this, but was
wondering how you guys would attempt it.
I have 3 drives in a raid 1, with one as a hot spare.
They are 250gb with all space used by two raid devices, 1 with boot, the
other with LVMs filling them up.
Now, lets say down the road I want to put in 500gb drives and replace
them....yikes.
I was thinking of taking out the

Best option for my home file server?
I was recently evaluating much the same question but with out only a
single pool and sizing my disks equally.
I only need about 500GB of usable space and so I was considering the
value of 4x 250GB SATA Drives versus 5x 160GB SATA drives.
I had intended to use an AMS 5 disk in 3 5.25" bay hot-swap backplane.

RAID performance design? /home and os
I'm considering how to design a new file server with a 3ware 9650se RAID
controller. How much
would you estimate the impact to be on sharing /home and the operating
system on one raid 6 set?
/home is mostly read only accesses with a ratio 10:1 read/write. I'm a
little bit concerned that the log writes
in /var/log could impact read performance on /home causing disk head
movements or that a

ZFS Roadmap - thoughts on expanding raidz / restriping / defrag
Hey folks,
Does anybody know if any of these are on the roadmap for ZFS, or have any idea how long it''s likely to be before we see them (we''re in no rush - late 2008 would be fine with us, but it would be nice to know they''re being worked on)?
I''ve seen many people ask for the ability to expand a raid-z pool by adding devices. I''m wondering if it

RAID 0 across SSD and HDD
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I''ve been unable to find anything definitive about what happens if I use
RAID0 to join an SSD and HDD together with respect to performance
(latency, throughput). The future is obvious (hot data tracking, using
most appropriate device for the data, data migration).
In my specific case I have a 250GB SSD and a 500GB HDD, and about 250GB of

upgrading storage on hardware RAID 10 possible?
Hi all,
Can anyone please tell me, from experience, if it's possible to
upgrade the hard drives in a RAID 10 system from 250GB HDD's to 500GB
/ 750GB HDD's, while the server is running? The server runs CentOS 5.5
x64.
Our hardware vendors simply always say no, so we never actually tried
doing this, and when a client needed an upgrade like this we had to
build a new server with the

megatec_usb and "fry's" UPS
Gidday all - I've got a 1700VA dynamix UPS which is USB.
The previous model (with a serial port) worked wonderfully with megatec,
but this new one with USB is not working.
It feels like the kernel is not handing the USB device properly.
The web has not yeilded any useful info.
What can I do from here?

Hi,
Does CentOS 5 / RH 5 ship with a similar windows active directory and able
to support windows workstations? I've of heard OpenLDAP and FDS. Does
windows support those?

The info on the web seems to be outdated.....some of the links are DOA.....
There was one simple install, but not sure if it would work:

Different Sized Disks Recommendation
Hi,
I was first attracted to ZFS (and therefore OpenSolaris) because I thought that ZFS allowed the used of different sized disks in raidz pools without wasted disk space. Further research has confirmed that this isn''t possible--by default.
I have seen a little bit of documentation around using ZFS with slices. I think this might be the answer, but I would like to be sure what the

SSH on OS/390 Unix System Services
Hello
Can someone help. I have a real need to have ssh working with OS390 Unix
System Services. IBM said that they would like it there as well, but they
said the openssh organization has issues with this. Can you help me
understand what the deal is or issues are???

Disaster recovery recommendations
Greetings,
I have three drives; they are all SATA Seagate Barracudas; two are 500GB; the
third is a 2TB.
I don't have a clear reason why they have failed (possibly due to a deep,
off-brand, flakey mobo; but it's still inconclusive, but I would like to find a
disaster recovery service that can hopefully recover the data.
Much thanks for any and all suggestions,

Since the only driver that seems to use this is the staging one,
