REST
I''ve been looking into RESTful approaches lately. Everything I know
my dog, Lelu, taught me.
REST (REpresentational State Transfer) is an architectural technique
for networked applications first described by Roy Fielding in his
dissertation at UC Irvine-- excellent work, especially considering
the tempting proximity of Newport Beach. As Lelu described it to me,

help me understand rest
I am having a heck of a time understanding the new rest craze in rails.
what I think I understand so far:
1 rest is about the way we use http to access information on the
internet.
2 http was created with nouns and verbs in mind, but the only verbs that
are supported in browsers and server software today are ''post'' and
''get''. Other useful verbs include put

restful controllers - howto nest with link_to?
Hi List,
I''m trying to get my grip on the restful methods that are now part of edge
rails.
Making the first steps was impressive as well as easy because there are
already great resources on the blogs of early adopters:

Simply_RESTful and Bulk Import URLs
Hi,
I have a people controller, and want to import bulk import multiple
people from a CSV file.
In my routes.rb file I have:
map.resource :person
Now, it''s a little unclear to me how to further configure the routes to
allow me to add the following URLs:
I need a URL to choose a file to upload, so I need an HTML ''frontend''
for it, so I figured the following URL

New winetricks 20080227: new verbs vbrun3, vbrun4, vbrun5, vbrun6
Detlef contributed verbs vbrun3 and vbrun4, thanks!
And I added vbrun5 and vbrun6 as the preferred synonym for
the existing verbs vbvm5 and vbrun60. That should be easier.
As always, winetricks is at

and its source repository is at

noun-verb vs verb-noun aka dogs black vs black dogs
Wow. I wasn't expecting such a voluminous reply -- some I agree with and
some I don't.
My apologies for an equally voluminous reply.

crash when using the cp command to copy files off a striped gluster dir but not when using rsync
Hi,
I've got this strange problem where a striped endpoint will crash when
I try to use cp to copy files off of it but not when I use rsync to
copy files off:
[user at gluster5 user]$ cp -r Python-2.6.4/ ~/tmp/
cp: reading `Python-2.6.4/Lib/lib2to3/tests/data/fixers/myfixes/__init__.py':

A few questions: Tweaking StemFilter, indexes, ...
Hello all,
I am new to the list, but I have been using ferret for a little bit
already. I would first like to thank Dave for all his work on ferret.
I had a few questions that I haven''t been able to figure out after
messing around with ferret and going through the documentation.

Forceing PUST vs. POST in form
I am experimenting with a combined form. I wish to force the HTTP verb
for this form to PUT. However, it always uses POST when submitted and I
cannot determine why.
The view template code is:
<%=form_for( @user,
:html => {
:class => :edit_user_role,
:id => :edit_user_role_form,
:method => :put },
:url => user_roles_url( @user )

gluster over infiniband....
Hey guys,
I am running gluster over infiniband, and I have a couple of questions.
We have four servers, each with 1 disk that I am trying to access over infiniband using gluster. The servers look like they start okay, here are the last 10 or so lines of a client log (they are all identical):

RFC: should we spell lambdas like functions?
I argue we should spell C++ lambdas (and other function-like variables) like functions, not like variables.
- Use verbs, not nouns.
- Use lowerCamelCase.
Here's a patch that implements the change to the coding standards:

Thoughts?

Outlook Web Access behind shorewall firewall doesn''t work
Hello,
I have a MS Exchange (small business server) that was just upgraded to
2003, behind a bering (shorewall) firewall. OWA is experiencing the
issues described in the following technet article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;280823
OWA displays Loading, and does not display properly. I am already
running over https. (ports 80 and 443 are DNATed to the server).

Is winetricks sending reports to the developer?
"Setting Windows version to winxp

You gave the --optin option, so reporting 'msi2' to the winetricks maintainer so he knows which winetricks verbs get used and which don't. Use --optout to disable future reports.

Two problems with Acts_as_paranoid
Hi,
I''ve run into two small problems with acts_as_paranoid and wondered if
anyone else has experienced them as well (and if yes, if they have any
solutions).
1. When using has_many :through, AAP doesn''t seem to take into account
the fact that your join model might also be paranoid. My solution to
this at the moment is to add an explicit conditions clause to the
