RoR + oracle + bind vars
Hi,
I have a question about bundle: RoR + oracle + bind variables.
Heaving read forums/blogs/etc I found out RoR does not use bind vars
for oracle particularly (and for all adapters in general).
Then I found Michael''s patch
(http://dev.rubyonrails.org/attachment/ticket/5199/oracle_bind.patch)
but it was not added to the following RoR versions (since the end of
May). As I suppose it was

Oracle unit test problem in Rails 1.1.2/Ruby-OCI 0.1.14
I''ve upgraded to Rails 1.1.2, and I''m trying to push this change through
to our build server (Linux/Oracle) and we are getting some errors in the
unit tests using Oracle. Looking at the data in the tests reveals a
precision problem. Looking at the tables tells the whole story.
My development database contains this table:

Problems with scaffold''s parameter on Oracle
Hi
I run Ruby on Rails on Oracle XE.
I have a simple table:
create table customer(id number primary key, name varchar2(100));
And
ruby script\generate model Customer
ruby script\generate controller Customer
http://localhost:3000/customer/
- show a fine list, but when I click show/edit/destroy, I get an

Oracle XMLType data
Howdy folks,
Has anyone had any luck getting Oracle''s XMLType to play nicely with
Rails? According to the docs, it''s just a wrapper around CLOB.
However the ruby-oci8 driver throws an exception about user defined
types if you try to query a table with an XMLType column.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Session handling busted on Oracle
Hi,
Ruby 1.8.6 (one-click)
Camping 1.5
I''d submit this as a bug, but the tracker says I''m forbidden, so here
you go.
The first problem is that the sql to create the sessions table is
broken. This is what it tried to send:
CREATE TABLE sessions (
id NUMBER(38) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY (38), --> Problem here
hashid VARCHAR2(32),
created_at DATE,
ivars CLOB DEFAULT

Oracle Adapter on Mac OS X?
I had previously gotten Maik Schmidt''s patch for Oracle working, but
now am trying the official Oracle adapter with the latest Rails. I''ve
been trying to get the OCI8 connector to install under OS X, but get
the following error. Has anyone gotten it working?

Should we split llvm Support and ADT?
Changing a header file somewhere and having to spend 10 minutes waiting for
a build leads to a lot of wasted developer time.
The real culprit here is tablegen. Can we split support and ADT into two -
the parts that tablegen depends on and the parts that it doesn't?

of their transitive dependencies.

Instant Client: Connecting Oracle and Mac
Hi,
I am having a terrible time installing Instant Client to connect my
Mac and an Oracle db.
I am using the following instructions:
http://www.foliosus.com/2007/11/19/connecting-ruby-on-rails-to-oracle-on-an-intel-mac-in-leopard-mac-osx-105/?css=Banksia
All goes seemingly well until the Compile the ruby-oci8 library
section.
ruby setup.rb config
returns the following error message:

Should we split llvm Support and ADT?
It would be better, because a debug tablegen is slower than an optimized
tablegen, but it's still slow and it doesn't address the problem that
tablegen runs *at all* when it doesn't really need to. I think if tablegen
wasn't running all the time we could incremental builds down from 15
minutes (and that's on my really powerful machine) to under 5, which seemed
like a big

Oracle OCI8, or "am I going crazy?"
All of a sudden, on three different systems, the "server_ip_address/sid_name"
syntax in database.yml has stopped working for me.
I can''t even do a OCI8.new(blah blah blah) statement from an IRB shell.
I get "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener", or some variant, depending on how I phrase it.
On systems where I have a real deal client installed, and OCI can find the

Should we split llvm Support and ADT?
It's that TableGen depends on Support, so if you change one file in
support, support gets recompiled into a new static archive, which triggers
a rerun of tablegen on all the tablegen inputs, which is extremely slow.

AMD64 + Debain + rails + Oracle ?
Hi folks,
Does anyone know how to install the OCI8 ruby interface on Debian64
without having to install Oracle?
My understanding, from experience with Debian i386, is that you need
Oracle (specifically the SQLPlus) installed to be able to compile
OCI8. Since my new dev machine is AMD64 running Debian, I''m stuck.
My rails applications need to connect to a remote Oracle 10g, but

ActiveRecord: Oracle metadata loading slow on large database
All,
While attempting to use ActiveRecord against a large database, approx.
1700 tables and 4 million rows, I discovered an inefficiency in
oci_adapter.rb. The problem seems to be the SQL being generated to
lazy-load the columns metadata. "def columns(table_name, name = nil)"
method generates the following SQL:
select column_name, data_type, data_default, nullable,
