Why is rails using DB objects that don''t exist?
I admit it--I''m newb right now. But only to rails, ruby and friends.
I''m walking through a "recipe" tutorial but have been stuck for hours;
it''s time to ask for help. On Windows I''ve got the latest ruby, rails,
and webrick; I''ve got the Oracle OCI "thing" to talk to our Oracle 10g

Fwd: Converting R to Sweave (Rnw)
Hi
I am thinking about using Sweave more frequently, especially for
documenting code. But the syntax is slightly awkward for me (<<name>>=
... @), and I was thinking if there would be a way of importing the
type of code extracted from an Rnw file back into an Rnw file? The
advantage would be that the code could run in R without tangling.
Obviously, sweave options could not be

PostgreSQL primary (sequence) key issue
Hi,
I have a sequence set up on one of my tables called seq_user_mytable. I
tried the following with no joy:
set_primary_key "user_id", :sequence => "seq_user_mytable" and:
ActiveRecord::Base.seq_user_mytable
again with no joy. How do I implement a sequence in Rails/ActiveRecord?

New function for manipulating SpeexBits
It would be nice to have the following function added to the speex
bits...
void speex_bits_read_from_buffer(
SpeexBits * const bits,
void * const buff,
const int buf_size)
{
bits->bytes = (char*)buff;
bits->buf_size = buf_size;
bits->nbBits = buf_size << 3;
bits->bytePtr = 0;
bits->bitPtr = 0;
bits->owner = 0;

Serialized object behaves weird
Hi!
I got a class named EinsatzFilter which I serialized to session. Before
saving to session it works afterwards I keep getting the message:
"undefined method `to_s'' for #<Person:0x38c6ab8>". "Person" is a from
ActiveRecord::Base inherited class.
Code:
class EinsatzFilter
include ApplicationHelper
attr_reader :personen, :monat, :projekte, :kunde

Hello,
Arel::SelectManager (arel 2.0.9) uses following statement to insert a
new record:
@engine.connection.insert im.to_sql, ''AREL'', primary_key_name,
primary_key_value
But in DatabaseStatements insert ist defined as:
insert(sql, name = nil, pk = nil, id_value = nil, sequence_name = nil)
Actually, Arel::SelectManager does not use the sequence name. This

Converting Number into Integer in ruby
I am working with a legacy oracle database. The
primary key is not defined as an integer but as a number.
This results in a url with an id as a number, such as 1234.0 instead
of 1234. It works fine, but I would prefer 1234 to be displayed in
the url. I have attempted to redefine the model id method to
convert to an integer using to_i method, but no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Vaibhav

currently setting the table_name and primary_key, and I get the list

However, when I hit edit I just get the Editing <table name>, Edit
button, Show, and Back. None of the fields are rendered.
Why would I be able to show these fields in the show and list, but not

"Sequence does not exist" for joined model
Hello all,
I''m in my 5th month on Ruby on Rails and still learning.
I have an application that works fine in sqlite3 and then the boss says
he wants it migrated to Oracle.
Now, I know very little about Oracle, enough to get into trouble.
When I did the migration everything went haywire. Well, I''ve refactored
several problems and now I have another.
I have two models with a

http://www.lx-office.org/uploads/media/DB_Schema_2.1.1_R_393_17_03_2005_.pdf).
They somehow use global ids (global for some tables). I can not change
the schema and still I want to use Rails to access it and not pure SQL.
When I try to insert a record I get the following message:

OCI adapter slowdown on dictionary access
Hi,
after some experience with Rails on MySQL databases I gave it a try on one
of our larger Oracle database.
I was facing a problem when Rails tried to detect the columns for a
model/table. The appropriate statement ran about 1 min which led to a
timeout.
Our Oracle guru told me to analyze the SYSTEM schema. After that hadn''t
helped, he said the only remaining chance is to use a
