Validation errors in has_one/belongs_to relationships.
I have two objects, QuoteInput and Insured.
QuoteInput has one Insured and Insured belongs to QuoteInput.
I don''t understand what I''m seeing.
I assign an Insured to a QuoteInput. The Insured object has invalid
data.
I call save! on the quote input. QuoteInput has no validations.
I expect two things to happen - 1) an exception should be thrown,
indicating that there was a

Polymorphic association and has_one retrieval issues
class Address < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :addressable, :polymorphic => true
end
class Client < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :address, :as => :addressable
end
Now I''am able to create a correct entry in the db for address with
addressable_id = 1#client_id
addreassable_type = ''Client''
but when I retrieve
client = Client.find(1) --> return client

has_many / has_one polymorphic with conditions
I''m looking for a way to make this work (I think the code is more
explanatory at this point):
## THIS WORKS
has_many :images, :as => :imageable, :dependent => :destroy, :order =>
''position ASC''
# @product.images => #
## THIS DOESNT
has_one :featured_image, :as => :imageable, :conditions => "position =
1"
# @product.featured_image =>

file_column with polymorphic table relationship?
Hello,
I''m just starting out with both Rails and Ruby, so I hope this isn''t too
simple of a question - but I''ve been struggling to find a solution.
I''m using the file_column plugin to handle image uploads and thumbnail
generation. In addition, I''ve wrapped the image into a polymorphic table
so I can have uploaded images associated with multiple

Multiple polymorphic belongs_to declarations
I have the following models:
class Card < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :deck
belongs_to :front, :polymorphic => true
belongs_to :back, :polymorphic => true
end
class TextContent < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :card, :as => :front
has_one :card, :as => :back
end
The conflicting has_one declarations don''t work. What I need is

ActiveRecord Polymorphic Inheritance
I am using RoR ActiveRecord polymorphic inheritance and was wondering
if it''s possible to access the base class'' association methods in the
invocation of either to_xml or to_json without having to depict the
base class data in the serialized string. Here are my classes:
# base class
class Asset < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :resource, :polymorphic => true

Site Navigation With Polymorphic Has Many Through
Hi, seem to keep running into a wall here. I can''t find any resources on
site navigation that can deal with any model being in the nav, allow
nesting, and can dynamically update.
So I thought about it for a while, and decided on a MenuItems class, which
contained the position of the child in relation to it''s siblings, where the
parent and the child were polymorphic. Then a given

polymorphic assoc seems only best for multiple parents ?
I have done a little polymorphic associations stuff and have
refreshed my memory on it again.
What it seems like is that if I have a particular record and I want to
make it easy for many different parent records to associate with it
using has_one or has_many, that is fine.
If I want a parent record to have multiple kinds of children through
one association, I don''t see how to do that

Dumb polymorphic association question
Hi,
Why is it that polymorphic associations only work with the :has_many
and :belongs_to relationships? Why can''t it be a :has_one?

polymorphic associations wrong when used with inherited class?
Consider the following:
class Event
belongs_to :event_object, :polymorphic => true
end
class Asset < ActiveRecord::Base
end
class EventedAsset < Asset
has_one :event, :as => :event_object
end
EventedAsset.find(:first).event generates the following SQL:
SELECT * FROM `events` WHERE (events.event_object_id = 1 AND
events.event_object_type = ''Asset'') LIMIT 1

Polymorphic Association?
Hi there-
I''m a newbie to this board, RoR, and web development in general. So
please forgive me if this is in the wrong place or if the solution is
really simple...
I''m trying to conceptualize the relationships between a series of
models for a page creation function. What I''d like is to have a
Content Page which consists of a series of Content Blocks. The

Polymorphic associations?
I''ve read the stuff about polymorphic associations here:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/UnderstandingPolymorphicAssociations
But I''m not sure what exactly they are and what their advantage is. Are
they the same as HABTM, but they''re "two-way"?

defining polymorphic type condition
As great as Rails 2.1 is, I for the life of me cannot figure out why
polymorphic associations do not support reconfiguring the type column
used.
For example, I have no way to do a polymorphic association using a
lookup hash which maps an integer to a class name.
Storing a TINYINT unsigned is waaaaay more efficient than storing a
string like "SomeActiveRecordModel" over and over again.

Polymorphic Data Modelling Question
Hello,
I am not sure of the best way to model this situation in Rails and
would appreciate some guidance.
An order can hold multiple line items. Each line item is for a
certain number of any given product. There are four products, each
in a different table because they have completely different
attributes. So I have:
Order
- has many LineItems
LineItem
- belongs to an Order

polymorphic association
Hello,
I have a scenario where I want to save a author image and book image to
assets table...
I am using a polymorphic association.
And author_name is inside the books table.
now when I save the image the imageable_type says "Book" for both. And
off-course it''s a correct behavior, but I am just trying to figure out is
there any way where I can save author image and

Polymorphic associations
I have just updated rails and added polymorphic associations but they
are not working properly. I''m following the recipe 17 of "Rails Recipes"
and I''m getting an "Unknown key(s): as" error. These associations work
properly on the console. The problem occurs when I''m listing the
items... perhaps the problem is pagination. Is this a bug or what
