Best way to upload an image and make a thumbnail
Hi, which is the best way to upload an image, keep that and also make a thumbnail? The images should not be stored in the database, but as normal image files in a specific directory. I think that for the thumbnail i should use rmagick, but for the upload ? (something which work with and without javascript, in every browser) Thanks :) -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Rails 3.0 Fleximage Error Errno::EACCES
Hi, I''m using Fleximage on my website so users can upload avatars. I recently upgraded to Rails 3.0 and switched host to slicehost.com. I successfully installed imagemagick and the gems rmagick and fleximage. Everything seems to be working fine except when I try to edit my account and upload an avatar. After selecting an avatar and click the update account button I get the following

Setting up Fleximage
Hello! I''ve been trying today to setup fleximage to handle photo uploads to a RoR application by following the tutorial that is provided (http://github.com/Squeegy/fleximage/wikis/gettingstarted) Originally, I just dropped in all of the sample code that they provided, which I copied below this question. - When I tried to access "new" to upload a new photo, I received an error

Hi there I am using Acts as attachment to store thumbnails in a file system. That part works fine :-) Along with my pic form I''m sending other information and I want to store that information in the thumbnail row as well as the parent image row... but I can''t figure out how to do it! The info is stored in the row that contains the original img info with no problems, but

Hi, 1. How to resize an image uploaded by a web form before saving it to the disk? (i need all uploaded images to have similar size) 2. How to create thumbnails? Is it enough if i specify small size of the image in html or would the image look horrible? Can i do it somehow in ''realtime'' using javascript? Or is it best to create thumbnail as a separate file? 3. How to get

Attachment_fu ImageScience FreeImage thumbnail quality
I''ve tried migrating acts_as_attachment to attachment_fu (just to see if I could replace RMagick with ImageScience+FreeImage), but the quality of the thumbnails is just horrendous, blurred beyond recognition (downscaling a 1280x1024 to a few considerably smaller thumbnails). Changing attachment_fu to use RMagick again and the thumbnails were crispy sharp again. I was wondering

Thumbnail plugin
Hi, With some help from Quinn_Storm, iXce, maniac103, mikedee and KristianLy :), I've managed to modify switcher.c and make a new plugin: thumbnail. The plugin shows thumbnails of windows when cursor is moved over a task button in taskbar. Screenshot: http://pix.nofrag.com/b0/7a/051d45e25bfffed09eeb9b00e383.jpeg Download:

RMagick=bad, ???=good
I know that Zed has made mention of the fact that using RMagick with mongrel and rails is a bad thing. I''m currently using FlexImage (which in turn uses RMagick) on my application and really haven''t had too many problems. We get a restart for memory usage every 8-10 hours on one mongrel of twelve running, but I''m not sure if that''s an RMagick issue. Either way,

file_column and Thumbnails
I see that the SVN version of the excellent file_column plug-in can create thumbnails using the url_for_image_column helper. This uses Rmagick to create the thumbnail... Quick question... Let''s say the file is a TIFF image - can the helper create a JPG version of the thumbnail for display in the browser? Curious if the plug-in can handle that transform with some creative use of the

saving the user id for thumbnails using attachment_fu
I am using attachment_fu to create thumbnails, and it is working great. However, I am have a view with all my users thumbnails displayed and am trying to make it so when you click on a thumbnail of their avatar, it shows that users profile. In order to accomplish this I have saved a user_id identifier for each avatar, but the problem is that attachment_fu only saves this user_id for the main

link Explorer Shell extensions to Gnome thumbnailer
Programs with special uncommon file formats (not jpg) often register a shell extension in Explorer that offers thumbnails for these files (since the files otherwise wouldn't have previews). When I trigger in a Wine application (eg. SketchUp) the File Open dialog, I can see previews of the files (skp files) in the preview panel. This means the shell extension does work in Wine. The Shell
