Samba3 on multiple networks, how to make it hand out the correct IP?
Hi, My Samba 4.1.x server is connected to two networks, one in the 192.168.* range (wired) and one in the 10.* range (wifi). The clients on either network normally cannot reach each other. I noticed Samba hands out (eg: for dcname.company.net) it's IP's from both ranges to clients on both sides. So the 192.168.* clients get two A records: 192.168.1.1 & 10.0.0.2. I noticed that,

how to remove an (offline) DC from Samba 4 ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Hi all, What would be the recommended way to remove an old offline DC from Samba4? I searched in samba-tool for a way to do this, but didn't find any. Tried using the Windows tools to manage AD Users & Computers -> Domain Controllers -> The DC & then hit delete, however this gives an error 'cannot find specified module'.

'document has been locked for editing by another user' - medium latency / limited bw connection issues?
Hi, I hope some of you have been in a similar situation and can shed some light on this: I have a VPN connection to a Samba 4.1.4 server and when I use Word 2010 on a W7 client to open an existing file I often get the following error: "document.docx has been locked for editing by another user." I should clarify that the document is not in use by anyone (confirmed by smbstatus), and

recreate/re-provision DNS db from scratch?
Hi, Is there a way to re-initialize/re-provision DNS? I have a working domain with 100+ users and computers etc.. I want to preserve all those users, settings and group policies etc, only start the DNS part from scratch. Why? I've been having some (mysterious) issues with Samba 4 DNS since.. well.. I suppose since I started with 4.0.6 (migrated from Samba 3.x) but from a users' point of

Samba 4 + Windows XP very slow - especially noticeable with many files
Hi, After our upgrade from Samba 3.x to 4.1.6 we are having major performance issues. Today, I've been able to nail it down to a simple test case. What strikes me is that Windows XP takes about 25 seconds for one job, while it only costs 3 seconds on Windows 7. I have two tests: 1000 files of 10k each (total ~10Mb): * Linux on localhost or a remote host (1GE or 10GE): 5.5 seconds *

arp_filter
Hello all, I have an annoying networking issue. The value of arp_filter is getting changed. /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth0/arp_filter 1 I specifically set it to 0 via /sbin/ifup-local. The hosts in question are setup to test some network gear, and they all have 1 "management" interface and 1 or more through put interface. Any ideas on how to keep this value from changing? -- Milton

Losing Packets after a DNAT in prerouting
I''m trying to setup some DNAT and the packets seem to be disappearing after the PREROUTING step. The packets are coming in eth2 (both LOG targets in iptables and tcpdump confirm this). They are then DNATed to an IP that should cause them to go out eth3. However I never see them go out that interface. I have tried putting LOG rules into the FORWARD chain with no success. I''m

CentOS 5.7 eth0, eth1 and arpwatch flip flops
Dear all, Has anyone experienced this whilst running DRBD over eth1 between two CentOS 5.7 servers? eth1 is a private IP address, unroutable. eth0 is the public address. CentOS will reply sometimes once every 3 days or every 14mins~ saying "My public IP is on eth1" to arp requests when it's not, it's eth0. This freezes traffic and causes issues. We've looked at arp*

This one is really throwing me. Thanks in advance for any advice. I''m working on a 4 port firewall system. It is running heartbeat+drbd. Primary box looks like this: eth0 -> net/cicso router 192.168.144.2/29 eth1 -> drbd/heartbeat crossover cable 192.168.254.253/30 eth2 -> dmz 192.168.144.10/24 eth3 -> loc 192.168.101.2/24 The IP''s

Two nics connected to one switch
We have a webserver that is connected to three different networks. Due to our cabling, we have to run two of those networks over the same physical network. When connecting from OS X and Windows we are occasionally blocked because the client is sending to the wrong interface. Linux clients seem to have no problem at all. I have read the docs and understand that the problems exists because of

Hello everybody. I have a problem with my firewall rules on my Slackware Linux box 9.0 (kernel 2.4.20-xfs). This system is configured with 3 NIC (one for the router, one for the dmz, and the other for the private net). I have written a firewall (iptables) that is processing packet based also on the incoming interface. This firewall is connected in a not good environment where all the NIC (and the

Problem with fresh two nic installation on FC3

arp corrupted
Hi, I've been trying to get a couple of routers up after h/w failure. The border router is an OpenBSD firewall running NAT between the Internet and a DMZ like subnet, and in that a Linux antivirus server is running NAT to the LAN. When the client does a DNS query it reaches to the f/w where dns is running and is returned into the A/V server but never hits the 0.254 interface. (Shown by

biometric device or smartcard with Samba 4.x
Hi all, I was just wondering if any of you are using biometric devices (eg: a fingerprint reader) or smartcards with Samba4 for network logon. Either as a replacement for a password or 'extra' as a 2nd factor. Would be interested in hearing experiences regarding this. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bram. -- Bram Matthys Software developer/IT consultant

Moving LDAP tree
Hi, I posted earlier to the samba-technical list, asking how to change the source to reflect my Windows 2003 setup, which apparently uses a different place to store DNS entries. But it's probably better to just move that part of the LDAP tree to where Samba expects it, so that's what I'm attempting now. (the original thread is at the end of this mail for reference) I would like to

dumb, dumb question
I''m very new to shorewall. My setup is IP Gateway (CentOS 4 + Shorewall) with 3 NIC cards. Shorewall works great on the firewall machine. Bind also works (local net machines get IPs fine). Under firestarter, all works great. With shorewall, the loc machines can not route past the firewall. They can connect to the firewall, but not past it. Exactly what information should I post to get
