Patch for #3438: Eager loading doesn''t respect :order of associations
Hello all, I still have a patch for #3438 (eager loading doesn''t respect association orders); it passes all unit tests, and has additional unit tests with full coverage. The patch is attached. == The Bug == Author.find(1).posts != Author.find(1, :include => [:posts]).posts if Author has_many :posts, :order => anything. This means that either one must avoid eager loading or

Rails bug? Conditions on associations ignored by eager loading
I''m looking for someone to confirm the following as a bug in Rails 1.0 before I post it to Trac. If I use eager loading on an association that has conditions defined, the conditions are ignored. The following example illustrates the problem. I have two tables: create_table "blogs", :force => true do |t| t.column "name", :string end create_table

has_many :through eager loading only loading one record
Hello, I''ve been using Rails for years, including has_many :through and eager loading, but this one has me stumped. The problem is that Active Record is only eager-loading the first of many records. Here are the models (note set_table_name for a legacy schema): class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name ''tag'' end class DishTag < Tag has_many

Eager loading not working well for me
Man my app is causing me so much grief lately. Okay let''s say I have: class Discussion has_many :posts end class Post belongs_to :discussion acts_as_tree end Then let''s say I grab a discussion object and try to eager load all of its posts: discussion = Discussion.find(:first, :include => [:posts]) Seems simple enough and it grabs an entire tree of posts. However:

Overriding to_xml() - Why Does This Work?
In Chapter 5 of his book, Flexible Rails, Peter Armstrong''s leads his readers through an exercise to override the behavior of to_xml() in ActiveRecord objects so that :dasherize would be false by default. I found his solution inelegant. I came up with a more elegant one, and it seems to work. All I did was add the following to the very end of myapp/config/ environment.rb: class

Eager loading a has_many :through (Rails3)
Hello all, I''ve been trying out Rails 3 and can''t get past this issue: I have a simple has_many :through: class Author < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :author_series has_many :series, :through => :author_series end class Series < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :author_series has_many :authors, :through => :author_series end In my controller I would like to

to_xml using lots of memory
to_xml uses up huge amounts of memory. Whether I use to_xml on an activerecord object directly, or create a hash from the activerecord object and then call to_xml on the hash, creating a 1.6mb xml file eats up 50mb of ram in rails.

Confused about to_xml() in ActiveRecord::Base subclass
Since all my efforts to control how to_xml() is formatting dates has failed, I''m now considering writing my own to_xml(). However, from the limited examples I''ve found, I just don''t understand how to actually reference the columns for the records in my record set. Here''s a simplified view of my ActiveRecord object: class Errors < ActiveRecord::Base

Two-way eager loading?
My problem is that I have two classes where the eager loading isn''t working as well as I would hope... Here are my two classes: class Daynote < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :userplace class Userplace < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :daynote, :dependent => true When I show my userplaces, I want to get the associated daynotes with them, so I am doing: @userplace =

creating a computed column with activerecord for to_xml
Hi. I have a question about activerecord, computed columns and to_xml. I have a simple model called person that has a first_name and a last_name field (and thus a first_name and last_name field in the Person table). When I :find a model and call to_xml, I would like the result to not only send back first name and last name as xml but also add an additional attribute called full_name that is

A few fixes to eager loading issues
Hey all, I''d really appreciate some eyes on https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994-ruby-on-rails/tickets/5845-activerecord-3-eager-loading-fail#ticket-5845-19. Error when Eager Loading "Not unique table/alias"
Hi list, I get the error "Not unique table/alias" (myql 4.1) when trying eager load 2 classes that use the same base class (not STI) Example: <code> class Wedding < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :bride, :class_name => ''Person'', :foreign_key => ''bride_id'' belongs_to :groom, :class_name => ''Person'',

using :select with :include to limit eager loading
Activerecord''s find option `:select'' does not appear to work when :include is used to eager load associations. However, I sometimes want to perform ready-made joins on associations to limit the results of a query. here''s a simple example: table university: STRING code INT id table term: STRING name INT university_id INT id the associations of the models

Rendering all the elements when calling Array#to_xml
When I call to_xml on an array, I want it to get the XML for all the elements in it. I''ve defined to_xml in my class. >> r.to_xml => "<video><id>1</id><views>2</views></video>" >> a = [r] => [#<StatisticsReport:0x3259f38 @video_id=1, @views=2>] >> a.to_xml => "<?xml version=\"1.0\"

Problem in ActiveRecord#to_xml
Hi, a couple of days ago I filed a ticket related to a problem with the to_xml ActiveRecord method. ( https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994/tickets/3982-patch-solved-a-bug-that-prevented-xml-serialization-when-activerecord-attributes-contains-more-than-column-values ). I solved it by making to_xml to infere the type by means of a ruby-xml type conversion, using a Hash that was already

Eager loading of polymorphic associations
Polymorphic associations work great until I try to do some eager loading through :include. In my example, the interface name is ":imagehaver". Here''s my little eagerly loading find line: Image.find(params[:id], :include => :imagehaver) All it gives me is an ActiveRecord::EagerLoadPolymorphicError with no further explanation. I haven''t been able to dig up anything

A Household has_one client and spouse, and has_many children and others. I want to use a single "Household.find(@session [:household_id], :include => [:client, :spouse, :children, :others])"

Dynamic relation with eager loading
