Enhanced MDISKCHK.COM and MEMDISK patches
Good day to all, Gert Hulselmans requested a feature for MDISKCHK.COM that would function roughly like GETARGS.COM[1] by Murali Krishnan Ganapathy: DOS SET command output for MEMDISK kernel arguments passed by previous boot-loaders. He also needed to support the case for MEMDISK-in-a-MEMDISK type situations, where all MEMDISK kernel arguments could be gathered together and output as a list

Get MEMDISK parameters from WinPE 32/64-bit?
Hi. I'm working on replacing a PXELINUX/MEMDISK loaded DOS based installation image with a PXELINUX/MEMDISK loaded WinPE ISO image. So far everything seems to work well (appending "bigraw" to memdisk solved booting problems on several machines), but I kind of miss the option of using getargs.com to get/set environment variables from the memdisk command line. Is there any way to

USB Thumbdrive + dos ghost boot image + drive too small = confusion
I will really hate myself if this has already been solved, i searched the archives but didn't really find anything pertaining to it. I have a 2.88mb dos boot floppy image, with ghost.exe, dos nic drivers, and dos system files. It works fine when burnt to a cd. As for the thumbdrive when trying to configure this hpghost.ima file to run from my syslinux.cfg menu, it works and boots up fine but

booting clonezilla *.iso via PXE fails
Hallo, I'm just trying to boot a Clonezilla *.iso (live-20100521-lucid) via PXE; Label clonezilla kernel memdisk append iso raw initrd iso/clonezilla.iso The first step is ok - I see the boot menu of the *.iso. When I choose "Clonezilla live" the system fails with Isolinux: Disk error 02, AX = 4224, drive E0 when I choose "freedos" it fails with

nopassany parameter causing trouble
I'm running into an issue which I didn't expect to encounter. When specifying the "nopassany" parameter to hide physical drives, I'm getting different output from ELTORITO.SYS (v1.5, syslinux distro) such that it fails. My intent is a LiveCD functionality with a DOS RAMDISK program taking over as drive C:, meaning either no FAT partitions on harddisks and removable disks

unloading memdisk
Hi Peter, I'm using isolinux and memdisk to create a multiboot rescue cd for personal use as described on Bart's page (www.nu2.nu). One boot item is to boot DOS 7.1 from Win98SE with a lot of other staff for emergencies. This DOS bootimage puts all necessary stuff into it's own ramdisk (XMSDSK). Some progs on the ramdisk needs access to floppy drive A: and unfortunately I've no

MEMDISK, MDISKCHK.COM
Just a slight poke regarding the MEMDISK and MDISKCHK.COM possibilities available here[1]. Review by non-hpas is welcome, too. Thanks! - Shao [1] http://git.zytor.com/?p=users/sha0/syslinux.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/ mdiskchk_enh2

Memory usage with memdisk vs initrd a squashfs
Question, Some Linux distributions I support show two approaches for pxe booting them. One uses memdisk to boot an ISO file. The other uses pxelinux to boot kernel and initrd a squashfs file. I'm unfamiliar with the impact to memory either approach has. Like, does using memdisk permanently squirrel away a chunk of memory for the ISO file that the OS will be unable to use? Is using initrd to

6.03-pre6 minor building suggestions
In Syslinux 6.03-pre6: _ The txt/html/*.html files are currently created 3 times, one for each firmware. I think they should be created only once (under the main txt/html/ directory), just as the rest of the documentation is. In that case, the <respective_firmware>/txt/html/ subdirectories should not even be created. _ The bios/dosutil/ directory contains copybs.com and eltorito.sys,

memdisk, memdiskfind and phram.ko
Hi, The method to boot an ISO using memdisk, memdiskfind and phram described in the wiki looks very promising to me. So, I looked into the sources trying to understand, how this works. Up to now, I could not find out how the memory containing the ISO image is preserved from being overwritten by the Linux kernel. Probably I'm missing something, could you please help me? Best regards, Bodo

memdisk parameters in windows pe.
hi everyone. i have a small tftp/pxe server i use to install different OS's without having to burn countless cd's (not all the machines i work on support usb boot). until recently, these were mostly linux/bsd-based systems (plus freedos). recently i've been trying to deploy a network-based windows installation, by booting windows pe (3.1, the one based on win7) with memdisk and from

missing syslinux details/docs
I'm running into some issues with regard to isolinux and memdisk, and am not sure where to ask/look in the best way possible. These are DOS-related issues. So here goes: * Can MEMDISK map a imagefile (compressed? harddisk?) to more than (and/or beyond) 4GB of memory? Say you'd have 8/16GBGB and want 4GB available to the user so might as well use the other 4/12GB for MEMDISK. Or max

Disabling MEMDISK
I have added instructions to memdisk.doc for how to disable MEMDISK. However, it's unlikely that this will work if you're running under DOS, since DOS will be very unhappy about drives changing underneath it. Anyway, until the next (pre)release comes out, here are the instructions: --- memdisk.doc 27 Apr 2004 06:49:36 -0000 1.10 +++ memdisk.doc 6 Jul 2004 01:29:03 -0000 @@ -122,5

memdisk and iso
Hi, I am trying to boot a server via PXE with following configured for its PXE. LABEL IMP MENU LABEL IMP LINUX memdisk INITRD linuxIso.iso APPEND iso I haven't been able to get this work, probably only because of network speed. PXE server is on RHEL 5.8 and syslinux 5.x While I was booting the server, I ran dstat on PXE server and saw the outgoing network speed was 400-500Bytes. So looks

Supporting WinImage compressed images
I am using PXELINUX, ISOLINUX, and memdisk in my project (http://unattended.sourceforge.net/). When memdisk gained support for compressed images, I started using it because it is cool. I used gzip to compress floppy.img to create floppy.imz, and all was good. But now my users are complaining that they cannot use WinImage (a Windows floppy image editing tool) to edit my floppy.imz files. I have

[PATCH v2 0/4] Allow cross-building of syslinux
Hi together, this is the second version of my cross-compilation patch serie. I'm sending it in the hope to get an honest review, and possibly see the patches integrated upstream. Those patches allow to build syslinux using a toolchain different from the host one by explicitely using the host toolchain for the utilities that are required at build-time / on the build machine. I am using the

Booting firmware harddisk image with memdisk fails
Hi, I once again have a problem with memdisk failing to boot a harddisk image to update my Thinkpad X200s firmware. I extracted the harddisk image from the eltorito type 4 ISO using the isobar tool. Then I added memdisk using this image as initrd to my grub, rebooted and it boots into PC DOS and then freezes (ctrl-alt-del still works to reboot the system). Inside Qemu however it works fine
