load balancing and failover
Hi, A friend of mine has 2 lines of 512kbps terminated in two Linux boxes. He now want to remove those 2 boxes and have some device which will loadbalance the two ISPs and also have a failover arrangement. But he has agreed to give me a chance to do it on Linux for my own satisfication. Is this easy to do with lartc? How do I go about it exactly? I have very less time to do it since his

My understanding is I will be needing these modules and linux utilities. I hope someone can confirm. 1. I need to use iptables/ebtables for packet marking. 2. I can use tc for packet shaping. 3. Basic iproute configuration questions
I''ve managed to get myself confused with what is probably quite simple so if there''s any definitive documentation then please give me pointers. I''ve read and tried the nano.txt document, that''s what I''ve based my current setup on and it isn''t working at the moment. I have two external links, a DSL link on eth1 and a cable link on eth2.

simple dual Internet connection setup not sending return packets on correct interface
I have a very simple setup exactly as described in the HOWTO section " 4.2. Routing for multiple uplinks/providers". One is cable (eth1: dhcp) and the other is PPPoE (ppp0). I used the following commands to configure the routing once all of my interfaces are up and i have configured SNATing for them: ip route add 66.11.173.0/24 dev ppp0 src 66.11.173.224 table 11 ip route add default

load balancing causes authentication problems?

Multiple gateways setup and timeout connections
Hi, I''ve setup a gateway using multiple default gateways and netfilter MASQUERADE to load balance traffic between two DSL interfaces and one dedicated link, and when I try to download something big, or when I''m using MSN (both in clients under this gateway), sometimes, or most times, after a while the connection timeouts. The connection doesn''t seem to change its

tc filter + bridging + htb -- works only if ip_forward = 0
I thought that the below email would be of interest to LARTC readers. I wasted quite a bit of time tracking down this "feature" (bug?). Any comments that shed light on this would be appreciated. In short, "tc filter" + htb + bridging works only with ip_forward off. Andrew Athan ----------------------------------------------------------------------- All: It seems that

shaping ftp traffic
I am trying to mark outbound passive ftp traffic with iptables and shape it to 35KBytes. I am using the following script on the computer that runs the ftp server. It is not working correctly, it seems to limit ALL traffic. Cant file share or anything. Anyone might know what is wrong? It seems that I might need to add a ''lan limit'' so all traffic that is not marked still
