Samba automatically disabled?
Samba experts, I am running samba 3.0.3-5 of Samba on Fedora core 2 (Red Hat). I am trying to use encrypted passwords. However, when a user tries to connect to their samba account, they end up getting automatically disabled. Their encyrpted password becomes all X's. Can anyone tell me why this might be happening at the moment they attempt to login? Here are my global variables in

Weird custom type behaviour
Hey, I have a very trivial parsedfile based type - http://pastie.org/311146 - that works fine when deployed and run under puppetd -t. However, when being run by the daemonized puppet, it results in this error: Mon Nov 10 03:50:48 +0000 2008 //Node[ams-proxy-2]/quagga/Quagga::Daemon[zebra]/Quagga_service[zebra] (err): Failed to retrieve current state of resource: No ability to determine if

VMWare ESXi & CentOS5.4
I have a brand new Dell Poweredge T310 server with 4G ram and 1TB raid-5 hard drive in it. I Really only need to be able to run a copy of CentOS 5.4 on it, but I'm wondering if in the build process should I stick on ESXi 4 and then run CentOS as a vm? This would give me the options to roll out other VM's if I want over the life of the server (which I likely won't need) but the

Betr.: Multiple IP Addresses in a single NIC
Hi, You need to issue two commands: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx /sbin/route add -host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx dev eth0 For example: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 172.16.1.199 /sbin/route add -host 172.16.1.199 dev eth0 You can even assign multiple aliases to one NIC (One of my servers has about 10 ip addresses): For example: /sbin/ifconfig eth0:0 172.16.1.199 /sbin/route add -host 172.16.1.199

Question About Samba PDC/NIS/2k
We are currently running Samba in a security=share mode, I would like to switch this to have samba be a PDC and use domain authentication. Anyone out there combined the following successfully? Linux Redhat 7.x NIS master and PDC, using NIS as authentication for PDC/Windows? I have seen several things on just having an samba PDC but I would like to keep using our NIS as it's used for many

NIS binding probs w/Firewall and SELinux
I have RHEL5 Server originally configured and installed by me with Firewall enabled, but passing through NFS, Samba, and SSH. I then disabled SELinux. As you all likely recall, I had configured a test environment to get samba and nfs/nis up and running. I got it going, and recently brought it to a production server. After modifying the files on the production server and rebooting, I'm

samba PDC/NIS client
I have a server which is a samba PDC and has recently been converted to an NIS client. For historic reasons, many users login information is in the local machine's /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow files. samba is set up to use a tdbsam database. I got the first indication of problems when I tried to add a user using the smbpasswd -a command. I found that smbpasswd would not recognize the user

VMWare Sandbox
I need to experiment with ldap for a site I manage, and wondered if vmware would be a good way to go for some testing. My current server is RHEL3, which is getting dated, and I think that I should refresh this server entirely in the move to ldap. We need to have an ldap server for publishing email addresses for a VPN for a nursing home that the upstream can harvest and we can browse to send

validate a form NOT connected to a model
Is there any way to validate a form that isn''t connected to a model. I have a form that connects to a controller action and I want to validate the inputs on the form like I would with the validates_ATTRIBUTE_of property on a model. Is there any way to do this? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

"NT-PDC" and "Some Linux-Clients using NIS"...
Hi everybody! I'm planning on realising the following situation: We have a NT-PDC and some Windows-Clients. As Linux becomes more popular and more important in our net, we'd like to use the PDC's user-database for "logon-authentications" on the linux-computers too. Planned are some linux workstations and at least one server. My idea so far is to have the linux clients

Samba PDC passwd update to NIS server
Hello, After some difficulties my samba pdc users can change there smbpasswd and unix nis password in one go. (They just use the ctrl-alt-del change passwd.) My setup: A samba pdc running on host x (sunos) (Serving 3 TB, 500 users) A YP NIS password server running on host y (sunos) The lines in smb.conf for this: ... passwd program = /samba/tools/changepasswd.exp %u passwd chat = *new* %n\n

PDC, NIS and password sync.
Hi. I have for a while been trying to get my samba 2.2.1a PDC to be a NIS master and still maintain the password sync feature, without any luck. Now I made something that seems to work - but I would like to get your input to see if what I do is ok or it is something I should'nt do. 1: Samba uses passwd to sync the password (not yppasswd) 2: cron runs make in /var/yp every 15 minutes to

Inconsistent NIS Client Behavior w/ Centos 7.6
Hi All. I am working on bringing back a number of Centos 7 rigs in our student computer lab back online. No change was made to the existing server machine [running Scientific Linux 6] Right now there is one remaining thing to resolve: an inconsistency with the rigs' NIS Clients. I have configured rcpbind and ypbind following guidance from Server World (

AD Auth Trusted Domain issues
I have been killing myself on this issue over the last 2 weeks. I have setup pam AD authentication using winbind on our companies email servers. That part is currently working. I have been trying to add an existing "Trusted" child domain and allow authentication from that domain as well. I am part of the way there, but not quite to the functional point as of yet. Our primary domain

Customizing SBCC for lcov workflows
I’m working to implement Source Based Code Coverage in a workflow that uses lcov for report generation. We’ve customized our llvm-cov to add a command to convert the SBCC counter data to lcov’s ‘.info’ format. The problem is that the region-based counter definitions in SBCC can span source code regions that can contain blank lines (or lines with only comments). Converting this to lcov’s

Pinging Static IPs on Lan
For some reason I can't ping or communicate with two of my machines that have static IP's on my lan. My mythbe and mythfe are both set to have static ip's in the event of some sort of power problem the wife can stillwatch tv. After installing CentOS5, I can't communicate with those two machines. I read through the release notes and the docs on dhcp, but I can't seem to see
