CentOS 8 Docker container is missing dnf-plugin-ovl
Hi everyone, I've been running some tests on Travis CI with CentOS 7 and CentOS 8 based Docker containers and having issues with the CentOS 8 ones. With the centos:8 image, the RPM database eventually gets corrupted due to the default overlay2 storage driver used by Docker. This issue doesn't show with the centos:7 container. It already comes with the "fastestmirror" and

Capistrano, Media Temple and their Grid Servers
Hey Everyone, According to the comments section in this blog post MediaTemple has their own capistrano deploy script: http://blog.vixiom.com/2006/10/12/media-temple-tames-the-beast-new-ruby-on-rails-hosting-service-with-mongrel/ The problem is that this deploy script refers to a file called ''mt-capistrano'' that I can''t find anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions

Sobel's test for mediation and lme4/nlme
Hello, Any advice or pointers for implementing Sobel's test for mediation in 2-level model setting? For fitting the hierarchical models, I am using "lme4" but could also revert to "nlme" since it is a relatively simple varying intercept model and they yield identical estimates. I apologize for this is an R question with an embedded statistical question. I noticed that a

Connection from host to lxc container dbus
Hi, I am unsuccessfully trying to connect from host to containers dbus. Inside container dbus socket file is visible as /run/dbus/system_bus_socket. The problem is that /run is mounted as tmpfs in container (by systemd on container) and thus the directory content is not visible outside the container. Is there any way to make this file visible also outside the container? Regards, Piotrek

CIs in predict?
Dear All, I am trying to put some Confidence intervals on some regressions from a linear model with no luck. I can extract the fitted values using 'predict', but am having difficulty in getting at the confidence intervals, or the standard errors. Any suggestions would be welcome Cheers Guy Using Version 2.1.0 (2005-04-18) on a PC vol.mod3 <-

about sharing the hugepage memory segment between the host and the container
Dear all, What I want to do is to share a hugepage memory segment between the host and a container (I am trying to use intel DPDK package in container). For a normal memory (4k page), the memory sharing can be achieved by memory-mapped I/O (mmap())method with the same disk file on the host exposed to the container (that is, the host and the container share the same disk file). my questions are:

Error when executing "rake db:migrate" with frozen Rails 2.1.0 on Media Temple
I''m hoping someone might have some insight into this, because I don''t quite know how to figure this one out. I''m running the command with Capistrano''s deploy:migrate to my (mt) Media Temple (gs) Grid Server, but I get the same error (from "rake aborted!" and on below) when I run "rake db:migrate" directly on the server in the

Container setup?
Hi Patrick, thanks for the pointers. I tried today, and while it was easy to start my first container, I am not really happy with LXD, exactly for the reason St?phane gives in https://stgraber.org/2016/03/11/lxd-2-0-introduction-to-lxd-112/ "How does LXD relate to Docker/Rkt?"... what I really like about docker and docker-compose is, that it encourages to separate code from data and

making samba 4.2 in a container
Thank you for the excellent advice. so an lxc container should be a privilege vm. Do containers share the same file system like a BSD chroot jail? Or do they have a virtual disk image like vmware or virtual box? Sorry to be dense here. If you know of any good tutorials on making lxc containers, I'd like to read them. My thinking was that I would make an lxc container for the addc instance

strange PREDICTIONS from a PIECEWISE LINEAR (mixed) MODEL
Hi Dears, When I introduce an interaciton in a piecewise model I obtain some quite unusual results. If that would't take u such a problem I'd really appreciate an advise from you. I've reproduced an example below... Many thanks x<-rnorm(1000) y<-exp(-x)+rnorm(1000) plot(x,y) abline(v=-1,col=2,lty=2) mod<-lm(y~x+x*(x>-1)) summary(mod) yy<-predict(mod)

Different sings for correlations in OLS and TSA
Dear list, I am trying to re-analyse something. I do have two time series, one of which (ts.mar) might help explaining the other (ts.anr). In the original analysis, no-one seems to have cared about the data being time-series and they just did OLS. This yielded a strong positive correlation. I want to know if this correlation is still as strong when the autocorrelations are taken into account.

Host loses network connectivity when starting containers
I have hit a problem running libvirt based containers in a CentOS 7 based host, with the extra wrinkle that my host is an EC2 instance in AWS. Ultimately everything works as advertised, and I can launch instances that host multiple libvirt lxc containers without problems, with one caveat: About one time in ten when the containers are started, the instance loses all network connectivity. This

how to create container image for an existing container
Dear all, I installed 8 containers using "yum --installroot=/root/fedora16lxc" to create the container filesystem. Now I want to manage these containers with openstack. So I need to deploy these containers by openstack which needs the container image. Can anyone tell me how to export my existing container's image? I am not sure if openstack can create container without an image

Hosting Omegahat package on CRAN?
Hi list! For a package providing a GUI intended in particular at R newcomers (RcmdrPlugin.temis[1]), I would like to use the Rstem package [2] by Duncan Temple Lang, which is hosted on Omegahat only. This means the package cannot be installed automatically as a dependency, which I can work around by installing the package from my code when the user needs it. But Omegahat does not provide binaries

Media Temple?
Is anyone out there using Media Temple for hosting? If so what is your opinion on them? Normally I''d use a VPS and manage it ourselves, but this is a smaller project and isn''t really worth us managing ourselves. So we''re looking for a good reliable rails hosting service with good uptime. Thanks, Cam --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received

making samba 4.2 in a container
I did not implement Unprivileged containers because there is no dynamic uid remapping implemented so I would have to statically change the uids and gid's of all of the system files with uidshift and It didn't work well with the AUFS setup I originally and I haven't tested it with ldap accounts so I have no clue if there would be an issue with uid mapping. Since then I moved to
