Dovecot 'suicide'
I have a Dovecot installation on a Fedora 4.
With the last update from Dovecot RC10 to Dovecot RC27, the daemon
kills itself every night with this error:
Mar 17 05:23:11 mail dovecot: Time just moved backwards by 6 seconds.
This might cause a lot of problems, so I'll just kill m
yself now.
The error appears just after the night maintenance script executes a

Nginx, Mongrel, Proxy and REMOTE_ADDR
I''m using a cluster of mongrels behind an apache 1.3 proxy pass. I''ve
been passing the request to pen, which in turn balances the cluster of
mongrels. Now, I''d like to be able to use a different server to send
the static files created by the rails application, so I tried to
replace pen with nginx. Everything seems to work fine except the
environment variable REMOTE_ADDR.

Documentation Day!
I''m spending today writing documentation. I''ll be updating quite a few
documents, doing some edits, and adding some user contributed docs. If
anyone has documentation suggestions, FAQ questions they''d like
included, or things they think are old and stale, then let me know.

A Ferret/AAF success story
Hello everyone-
We recently added full archives search to Lingr (http://www.lingr.com),
and we used Ferret/AAF to do it.
I''ve written a blog post with some details of that integration, and I
thought some of you might be interested. See
http://blog.lingr.com/2007/05/we_heart_ferret.html.
I''m grateful to the authors of Ferret and AAF, as well as to all the

actions with no views?
In Depot, the demo application in the the Agile book, actions that
modify the model such as add_to_cart redirect to another action that
has a clear view role, like index, or show_cart, instead of
generating the view themselves. This uses an HTTP redirect that goes
to the client and returns.
Is this an idiomatic way to design the flow in Rails?

I have a bunch of queries to compute some counters, like

best practice for object transaction?
I have a new @offer that needs to generate a document if saved. But
that''s all or nothing:
transaction do
@offer.save!
generate_document
end
# handle exceptions if needed
If save! fails everything is fine, but if generate_document raises an
exception @offer is left as a model with timestamps, id, which is not
a new_record? anymore (though the database was

Zed, you''re a moron :-)
Hi !
My mongrel just starting spitting out these nice lines:
The error occured while evaluating nil.accept. TELL ZED HE''S A MORON.
!!!!!! UNHANDLED EXCEPTION! You have a nil object when you didn''t
expect it!
Not sure what happened or why, but just FYI: Zed, you are a moron :-)

What I Want For Christmas
Calling All Mongrel Minions!
I wanna have some fun and would like this as a Christmas present. The site http://www.workingwithrails.com/ has this lame popularity system that''s kind of irking some of the main Ruby contributors. I think it''s kind of funny, but would like to demonstrate what an army of motivated people can do to these kinds of popularity contests.
So, as a

Mongrel 0.3.13.4 Pre-Release -- Docs and more Docs
Hi Everyone,
Just want to get out another ping on the Mongrel pre-release saga. I''ve
updated a bunch of the documentation to include documents people have
donated and to beef up the FAQ for most of the questions people have
asked over the past month.

SQLite in-memory
I left ":memory:" in database.yml for testing and the most simple
tests in the Agile book do not work (see trace below for test_truth).
Since that''s what comes with the distributed database.yml I suppose
it''s me doing something wrong.
Did someone get SQLite ":memory:" working? How does it grab the schema?

Excessive CLOSE_WAIT sockets, pound
Hello,
I''m experiencing a strange, but very bad behavior with Mongrel
0.3.13.4 and Pound 1.8. Every 6 hours or so one of our nine (not
consistent on which one) application servers ( each one running
several mongrel processes ) will start leaving lots of socket
connections with pound open. This leads to "Too many open files"
errors. I''ve set pound to close connections

rest nested resources - Help please
I can''t believe I''m back again with another rest question. I did go through
the peepcode podcast.
I thought though you can have multiple nested resources, is that not true ?
I have this set up
map.resources :candidates do |candidate|
candidate.resources :canbackgrounds
candidate.resources :canpositions
end
I just coded up teh canpositions and now all

Debugging not triggered...
I tried using the
killall -USR1 mongrel_rails
to check on a problem, and all I get is
mongrel_rails: no process killed
Nothing shows in the log. Any ideas? I''m using the latest
pre-release, and a ''ps'' shows my cluster is running.
Cheers,
Brett

Win32 release coming?
Hi there
what''s the status of the 0.13.4 release on Windows? I want to wrap up
a project in the next 2 weeks and I''d wait for the new release if
it''s coming in that timeframe. Otherwise I''d stay with the current
windows version.
thanks

[WARN] Got 99% CPU?
Hey folks,
I ran into a few people at RubyConf who were having 99% CPU issues. Please contact me if you meet the following criteria:
1. You are running a production site.
2. You are experiencing 99% CPU errors.
3. This is frequent enough that you cannot manage it.
Thank you. Please contact me off-list about it.
