GRED & HTB
Hi, I am tring to setup AF on my router using GRED/HTB. I plan to mark and set the DSCP with iptables and the ingress qdisc to set the tc_index for the proper GRED vq(1-12).
My question is: Is there a way to allow for priority between the af classes and within the af classes?
also would it be possible to to the following:
HTB(6Mb)
|
GRED(1)grio
HTB1 (af1) (1MB)
GRED(1-3)grio

Gred/dsmark/htb
Hi, I am trying to get assured forwarding/expedited forwarding with gred and htb working. Below is the script I am using.
The following steps are what I thing is how the script works. My problem is that if I remove the HTB qdisc from the script and have the GREDS parent as the dsmark it works, but when I add the htb as a parent of GRED and DSmark the parent of htb it does not work?

DSCP marking at core
Hi,
I want to setup core routers to do both DSCP marking
and to get the DSCP and forward packets based on DS
field. I don''t want to separate DSCP marking to be
done only at the edge routers.
I know that dsmark is both used for DSCP marking and
for getting the DSCP and forwarding packets according
to DSCPs. In my case, since I want to do both of these
I need two dsmarks.(?) I am not

TOS Settings to DSCP
I am assuming that the TOS values directly map to DSCP values in the ip
header. Is this a correct assumption? If so, can someone tell me the
correct setting to set call control packets with a DSCP of AF31(011010) and
media with EF(101110)? So would the setting for AF be TOS=46?? Is it
possible to mark the media and call control separately??

Marking and remarking of incoming traffic
I can use DSMARK to mark on the Egress side. Is there a way to
mark/change the DSCP value of an incoming packet on the ingress side?
Thanks.

DSCP marking
Hi,
I know that this question may NOT belong to this Mailing List, but
nevertheless, I hope I will get some help :)
After having worked with DiffServ on Linux, I want now to try marking
IP-packets in their DSCP header under Windows OS (e.g. WinXP). If somebody
knows some information, plz tell me, and u can e-mail me

ingress DSCP marking
I want to set the DSCP at the ingress of the router.
I tried the following:
iptables -A OUTPUT -t mangle -d 10.10.10.12 -j MARK --set-mark 1
tc qdisc add dev eth0 handle ffff:0 ingress dsmark indices 64 set_tc_index
tc class change dev eth0 classid ffff:1 dsmark mask 0x3 value 0xb8
tc filter add dev eth0 parent ffff:1 protocol ip prio 1 handle 1 fw
classid ffff:1
But the DSCP

Marking at egress? (DiffServ)
Hi all,
Supposedly my router is itself streaming traffic to clients. Is it possible
for it to mark its packets before going through dsmark??
I have gone through the examples in iproute2/examples, i noticed that
there''s always an ingress and egress of which these are 2 different dev. Is
it possible for before ingress and egress be the same dev??
I tried the script below but

dscp marking
I want to set the DSCP field of the incoming packets. And then put them
in the correct queues.
I can mark the packets:

tc qdisc add dev eth0 handle 1:0 dsmark indices 64 set_tc_index

tc filter add dev eth0 parent 1:1 protocol ip prio 1 handle 1 fw

packet marking: only a ratio, not all
Hi all!
In short:
Anybody wrote a patch for DSMARK to make it capable of marking
only a ratio (a given arg to the tc command) of the packets it gets?
Say, 20%? Or, do I have to hack into the source? Alternatives,
like a filter spitting packets to 2 different DSMARK based on this ratio?
In long:

How to DSMARK locally generated traffic and then apply AFHTB?
Hi fellow traffic-shapers,
I am implementing a Diffserv CORE router using Linux kernel 2.4.18. I used
this excellent website (http://www.opalsoft.net/qos/DS-38.htm) using AFHTB
as a starting basis for my EGRESS diffserv implementation - and all works
great so far!!!
But my project has an additional requirement. There are services running
locally on the router which are sending/receiving IP

Kernel Packet Traveling Diagram
Hi,
I find this diagram which details the kernel packet traveling :
http://www.docum.org/docum.org/kptd/
Is it up to date ?
I made some test and I put a DNAT rules in the PREROUTING table of an
interface and I attach it a ingress policy, the dst IP wasn''t changed. the
DNAT it isn''t yet make.
I''ve another question (I''m not sure is it the good mailing list), for

DSCP, ToS and Egress
I''m successfully using HTB + GRED to shape traffic based on the DSCP field. I
would like to strip the DSCP and possibly replace it with normal ToS bits on
egress traffic leaving my network. Leaving DSCP set is pointless, and could
potentially cause problems with some ISPs that use DSCP internally I suppose.
Setting ToS bits would seem ideal as most networks still honor it to varying

Something about diffserv!
Hello,
As we know that there are four kinds of AF in diffserv architecture, and each kind
has three different priorities. So, there are 12 different kinds of AF, is it
right? Of course, each AF has its recommended DSCP value. Then, we know the AF is
classified into four differnt classes, such as AF1, AF2, AF3, and AF4. But in a
Diffserv domain, and in the core router, there will be a classifier

Marking packets with IP Options field
Hello!
In our experiment, we are trying to mark IP packets at a source host. Some
of these packets have a 28-byte "IP Options" field, hence a 48-byte IP
header. We observed (using ethereal) that the tc script at the source
appropriately marks the packets that DO NOT have an "IP Options" field
(i.e., regular 20 byte header), however, all the packets with the "IP

I have a little problem for who knows.
I have an interface where i''ve limited some ip addresses using HTB algorithm and the tools form iproute2.What i whant is to limit only packets marked by DSCP.

Packet marking for ingress shapping and NET
Hi,
I have typical situation, local LAN with private addresses, translated
via NAT to internet. I need to shape ingress traffic (from internet to
local LAN) in several HTB queues accorting to destination (private not
public) IP. So I need mark packets to divide them to corresponding
queue. According to http://www.docum.org/stef.coene/qos/kptd/ I thing I
have only one way how to do it, because

DiffServ Marking
I am trying to compare the behaviour of the Linux DiffServ implementation
with that of Cisco, in DSCP remarking for traffic policing.
As I understand it, the DSCP is marked at the egress interface (parent
queue), based on the class that packets are in.
I am looking at what happens at an inter-AS boundary.
DSCP marked traffic coming into the Edge Router need to be policed and

Problem: DSCP target
Hello everybody,
I have tried several iptables versions (from 1.2.4 to 1.2.6a) to
mark outgoing packets (change the DSCP field) with no success.
#iptables -A OUTPUT -t mangle -d 10.0.0.3 -j DSCP --set-dscp 0x2
iptables v1.2.6a: unknown arg ''--set-dscp''
TOS target is working fine, but I want to create different codes
