equal cost multipath routing and incoming services...
We''re trying to figure out how to have equal cost multipath routing using OSPF (quagga) and have come up with the following...
Has anyone done something similar? -- How do you deal with incoming services (mail/web/etc) in such a scenario as below - And does anyone have any suggestions?
There''s more detail below....

multipath routing
Hi, I am tring to us ip route to load balance between two interfaces.
ip route add equalize 10.200.1.0/24 nexthop via 10.200.0.2 dev neta nexthop via 10.200.0.2 dev neta2
Where neta and neta2 are gre tunnels. Testing show that packets travel in a single sided manner.
Do I need to use the multipath (IP_ROUTE_MULTIPATH_CACHED) module?

6.5 vpn/gre/ospf breakage
Hi List,
FYI.
We have been using CentOS 6.4 and have 2 vpn/gre tunnels to separate cisco rtrs using ospf.
with kernel 2.6.32-358.23.2
We have upgraded to 6.5 bit using kernel 2.6.32-431.5.1 and the exact same configuration scripts for
our vpn/gre tunnels.
What I see is the first gre tunnel works great and I get an ospf neighbor.
The second tunnel comes up and I can ping across it and I see

load balancing
Hi, I have 2 routers that are connected using 2 gre tunnels over ipsec, and ospf. Ospf sets up the equal cost
route, but uses the ''equalize'' in the route. Is there a way to remove/disable packet based load balancing? I would
just like to do a flow based load balance?
thx jason

gre/ipsec loadbalancing
Hi, I have the following setup. Two linux systems with two [test] external interfaces encrypted with ipsec [transport].
Two gre tunnels that pass 10.200.0.0/24 and 10.200.1.0/24 network traffic.
Testing the balanced tunnels I would setup iptraf on one and ping from the other. The results would be as expected; traffic would be split between the two interfaces.

equalize / ecmp not working as expected in 2.6 vs 2.4
Hi,
With kernel 2.4 I was able to use equalize to send our outgoing packets to
two different routers (our isp supports this setup), like this:
ip route add default src ip.a.dd.rr equalize nexthop via <router1> weight 1
nexthop via <router2> weight 1
The two routes were used equally on a per packet basis, not per flow or per
cached route, but per packet, each line has 800k upload

Quagga ECMP
Hello,
does anybody know if quagga for CentOS 5.3 is compiled with
-enable-multipath?
I want to implement ECMP over 2 ISP.
Thanks,

multipath
Hi, I have setup a ECMP route between two linux systems. I do not have the equalize enabled. This would be flow based. After sending a few ftp/scp sessions I noticed that the ''per flow based'' was jumping between interfaces for just one session.
My question is, would this be a result of the routing cache changing between the two ECMP systems.
If this is the case would

loadbalance/gre tunnels
Hi, I have two systems each with 2 two gre tunnels over ipsec. The tunnels are setup to loadbalance using ''ip route''.
Using ping from one server to the other I get equal results via the two gre tunnels, but when I try a large ftp transfer the utilization of one tunnel is 90% and the other 10%. The two interfaces are both 100/full.
What would be the reason for this, or would

multicast over GRE tunnel
I need to send multicast traffic through a GRE tunnel between two Linux

make it work for multicast. Here''s the setup:

FreeBSD 4.9 losing mbufs!!!
Hello List,
I know 4.9 is ancient history, but unfortunately we have several
thousand sites installed. We are in the process of moving to 6.1 when it
is released.
Right now I have an immediate problem where we are going to install two

HQ site. Each of the 2 systems will have two gre/vpn/ospf tunnels to a
100 remote sites in the
field. The broadband will be a T3 with failover to

Multicast packages dropped
Hi,
I have recently updated one of my systems from CentOs 6.4 to CentOS 6.5.
This systems is used as a RIPv2 routing server with quagga which is the termination point of some GRE tunnels.
While running CentOS 6.4 I see the multicast packages arriving at the eth0 and the GRE tunnel interface.
While running under CentOs 6.5 I can see the multicast packages arriving at the eth0 but not on the GRE

GRE tunnel stops traffic when idle
Hello,
I''ve set up a GRE tunnel between two Linux boxes and it''s working well,
with or without IPSEC (under GRE). The problem is that when I have no
traffic for some minutes, side A cannot communicate to side B any more,
unless side B tries to communidate to side A. The same thing happens in
the other direction.
For example, side A pings side B. No reply. Keep pinging.

Tinc + OSPF - is it feasible?
Hello,
Please tell me if it's possible to use tinc together with OSPF (instead of
static routes in LAN). By OSPF I mean Quagga's GNU/Linux daemon.
Namely, I have a group of LANs (private 192.168.x.0/24 each).
Each LAN has a GNU/Linux default gateway, 192.168.x.1, that also connects
to the Internet via a public IP address (does NAT and firewall for the LAN
"behind" it).

checksum offloading causing problems?
Can anyone tell me under what circumstances checksum offloading might
cause problems? I have the following configuration:
1. Remote router (OpenWRT) with PC''s on the LAN and a GRE tunnel to the
head office
2. Central office with a server running Xen 3.1.2. Dom0 is doing PPPoE
and is terminating the GRE tunnels
3. Main corporate application running on a Linux DomU, accessed via ssh.
