Using TBF to throttle a PC to 5kbps
Hi Everyone, This is a simple question but I don''t understand why the below tbf is not working as expected by throttling traffic to 5kbps If I throttle a PC''s traffic using the below when traffic exceeds 5kbps packets start getting dropped (as they should) but all traffic gets dropped. not just the bit over 5kbps. TC="tc add dev ppp0" $TC parent 8001:2 handle 2:

tbf token help
Hi all! I just started to experiment with bandwidth management using tbf. I have the folowing problems with token understanding: 1) What unit is token? Is "1 token = 1 byte" ? If this is so, then with rate=0.5mbit and HZ=100 the bucket gets filled with 0,64kb (655 tokens) every 10ms? 2) How much tokens are used for one packet (1500)? 3) And token unrelated question. Does

internet traffic from tbf
Hi have set the following tbf tc qdisc add dev eth0 root tbf rate 0.5mbit \ burst 5kb latency 70ms peakrate 1mbit \ minburst 1540 I want to add a filter so the ip traffic pass from it.. plz help me __________________________________ Yahoo! Fair queueing: SFQ vs TBF
Hello, I have one Q. What is better when using as leaf in one leaf with several hosts (like subnet) to splice traffic equaly to user number? Like 2 users = 256/2, 3 = 256/3 and so on. WRR was pretty good for this job, but it''s only for 2.4.21 kernels and mine''s 2.4.22. So what is better: SFQ or TBF? -- Artūras Šlajus _______________________________________________

tc troubles with pfifo_fast qdisc on 2.4.23 kernel
Hi! I was updated kernel from 2.4.22 to 2.4.23 and now tc tools can''t correctly determine default (pfifo_fast) qdisc on interface: # tc/tc qdisc ls dev ppp0 qdisc pfifo_fast 0: [Unknown qdisc, optlen=20] but, if I assign f.e. cbq qdisc for some device all show correctly: # tc/tc qdisc ls dev ppp1 qdisc tbf 8009: rate 32Kbit burst 10Kb lat 1.5s qdisc cbq 66: rate 10Mbit

Multiple bands with equal priority ?
I''m trying to build a wan latency test environment, where packets from different "remote" locations get delayed by different amounts of time, depending on which remote location we''re pretending they are from. Currently, I''m doing this using the ''prio'' qdisc to obtain multiple bands, and hanging a different netem qdisc off each of the branches

throtling bandwidth
Hi, My branch office as got a 256Kbps b/w from their service provider at a very very high rate per Mb. They don''t require 256Kbps at all but the ISP does not offer anything low. Can we restrict the bandwith to say 64Kbps nothing fancy? How do I go about it? With warm regards, -Payal

tbf and prio blocking some flows entirely

PRIO and TBF is much better than HTB??
Hello mailing list, i stand bevor a mystery and cannot explain it J. I want to do shaping and prioritization and I have done these following configurations and simulations. I can´t explain, that the combination of PRIO and TBF is much better than the HTB (with the prio parameter) alone or in combination with the SFQ. Here are my example configurations: 2 Traffic Classes http (80 = 0x50) and

Question: traffic shaping (tc-htb)
Hello *! My trafficshaping (tc-htb) drops packets very early, at least i suspect this. It drops about 30% fo the packets. The traffic-generating appication is running locally on the shaping host. I think i can lower this rate by increasing the packet-buffer, because the locally application will slow down with increasing buffer (tcp/ip). But i can´t find any options for that, i cycled the manual

Wrapping prio in tbf
The manual says (about prio): > Because it doesn''t actually shape, the same warning as for SFQ holds: > either use it only if your physical link is really full or wrap it > inside a classful qdisc that does shape. The latter holds for almost all > cable modems and DSL devices. I want to wrap prio inside of tbf. Here''s why: I have a server on a DSL line, which has

About sockets in "CLOSING" state
Hi, I have met the problem: when I use the shaping discipline tc qdisc add dev ppp0 parent 1:2 tbf latency 50ms burst 1450 rate 50kbit one of my application (namely, "aMule") starts leaving sockets in "CLOSING" state. These sockets accumulate and do not disappear. Eventually I have so many of these dead sockets that the kernel warns "Out of socket memory" in

RED to use ECN (or work at all?)
Dear Community, sorry for the somewhat dumb question. Maybe someone has any pointer to how to setup the RED queue to mark pakets with ECN. In particular what are appropriate parameter settings for limit, min, max, etc. All my trials end up with either "RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument", although the command line (at least for me) looks fine in regard to what is said on the

classless qdisc and classful qdisc
Hello, I''m still new in using tc...I wanna ask... 1. what is the difference between classless and classful qdisc?? when I made a qdisc, are I must create both of that qdisc...??? 2. what is the difference beetween three of the classless qdisc in linux redhat 2.4, sfq pfifo and tbf if I using the htb classful qdisc ??? because when I use htb classful qdisc it means I made a qdisc that

Internal Qdisc
Hell I''m new to Qdisc programming and I was wondering, what is the difference between using an internal Qdisc (like e.g. TBF does) vs. not using internal Qdisc (like e.g. SFQ does)? Can someone give me a quick rundown of pro and cons? with regards R.harper _________________________________________________________________ Undgå pop-ups med MSN Toolbar - http://toolbar.msn.dk hent den

simple traffic shaping problem
Hi All, I read the advanced networking howto and find a useful way to shape my adsl link. is says: "tc qdisc add dev ppp0 root tbf rate 220kbit latency 50ms burst 1500 [...] Change 220kbit to your uplinks *actual* speed, minus a few percent. If you have a really fast modem, raise ''burst'' a bit. " My adsl''s upload brandwidth is about 120 kbits/sec,

simple tbf rate clamping issues
Hello, I was attempting to throttle egress traffic to a specific rate using a tbf. As a starting point I used an example from the LARTC howto, which goes: tc qdisc add dev eth1 root tbf rate 220kbit latency 50ms burst 1540 I then attempt a large fetch from another machine via wget (~40 megs) and the rate was clamped down to about 12Kbytes/s. As this seemed too much, I gradually increased

Traffic control of PPPoE users
I need some suggestions, I want to limit the up and down bandwidth of PPPoE users that are terminated on a Linux router (kernel 2.6). What are my options, can I apply tbf qdisc on a ppp interface? That would limit the download, what about the upload? Any suggestions are welcome. -- damjan | дамјан This is my jabber ID --> damjan@bagra.net.mk <-- not my mail address!!!

HTB - prio and rate
Hi all, I''ve not been able to find an explanation of the relationship between prio and rate as they apply to the HTB technique. Hopefully someone on here will be able to help me. As I understand things, when prio values are assigned to an HTB setup, classes with a given prio value will only be serviced when there are no packets waiting in classes with a lower prio value. Now, does

Qdisc requeue should be void?
There is an design problem with the qdisc interface that causes qlen related bugs in netem, tbf, and other qdisc''s that peek at the top of the queue. The problem is that requeue needs to be called from the dequeue function but requeue can fail. If requeue fails, then the calling qdisc can not properly handle the error. If it returns NULL, then the parent''s expectation about qlen
