Evil Scaffold
I read the Amy Hoy''s presentation on why scaffold is not a good thing for beginners. find(:all) and find_all_<etc>
Perhaps I''m an idiot and just don''t get it, and perhaps this question has been asked a million times before, but I''m not really sure how to go about searching for an answer to it: Why does my code Library.find(:all, :conditions => "user_id = #{session[:user].id}") return [] instead of nil when there are no results? -- Posted via

Rack content-length Rack::Lint::LintErrors errors with unicorn
Has anyone seen anything like this before? I can get it to happen all the time if I issue a HEAD request, but it only happens very intermittently on GET requests. I''m using Ruby 1.9.2p180. Common performance issues
Hi, When writing a Rails app, what common tasks can likely result in performance issues? The one I''m aware of is something like: Model.find(:all).each do |elem| # do stuff end Especially when there''s lots of elements in the Model. What other ones are there? Also, does Rails do caching of queries? If I''m in a view and I do: <% if user.admin? %> ... and

testing authentication with basic_auth
hi, I''ve got an api which is using authenticate_or_request_with_http_basic What are you guys using to test this? I''m using rspec, and before I was using rspec-rails, I was using authorize from Rack::Test to do the authentication. However, authorize clearly doesn''t work when using rspec-rails, so I''m wondering what everyone else is doing? -- You received this

[RSpec] Question about using TextMate Bundle...
Hey Everyone, First time poster! woot! Can someone please point me to a Wiki, FAQ, web page, that I can reference to help me debug why my installation of the TextMate Bundle doesn''t work? Am I supposed to install the gem, then install the plugins into a project, then install the bundle before the bundle can work? I can run ''rake spec'' at the command line just fine;

Quasipoisson with geeglm
Dear all, I am trying to use the GEE methodology to fit a trend for the number of butterflies observed at several sites. In total, there are 66 sites, and 19 years for which observations might be available. However, only 326 observations are available (instead of 1254). For the time being, I ignore the large number of missing values, and the fact that GEE is only valid under MCAR. When I run the

Thank you for helping me! I try the "pretty" funtion to select the x-axis position value.Then I use the "format" funtion. xax.pos <- pretty(as.numeric(x$x.name)) format(xax.pos,'%d %b %y') > xax.pos [1] 1091600000 1091800000 1092000000 1092200000 1092400000 1092600000 1092800000 [8] 1093000000 There are something wrong. [LLVMdev] [PATCH] Detect Haswell subarchitecture (i.e. using -march=native)
I agree with Tim, you need to implement a GetCpuIDAndInfoEx function in Host.cpp and pass the correct value to ecx. Also you need to verify that 7 is a valid leaf because an invalid leaf is defined to return the highest supported leaf on that processor. So if a processor supports say leaf 6 and not leaf 7, then an access leaf 7 will return the data from leaf 6 causing unrelated bits to be

[Progress Update] LLVM Runtimes Subdirectory
Hi LLVM-Dev, Over the past week or so I’ve been working on build system improvements around the LLVM runtimes directory. You may remember this from the LLVM-Dev discussion (http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2016-June/100859.html), or the patch review discussion (https://reviews.llvm.org/D20992) back in June. Recently, I’ve made a handful of new changes that actually make it useful, and I

plot() and points() precision control
Hi all, I have a problem in that when I plot points that have a high degree of precision, some significant rounding seems to occur, resulting in uneccessary overlap of my points. Is there a way to specify the resolution or precision in plotting functions? Is there an underlying grid I have to modify somehow? GAMM : how to use a smoother for some levels of a variable, and a linear effect for other levels?
Hi, I was reading the book on "Mixed Effects Models and Extensions in Ecology with R" by Zuur et al. In Section 6.2, an example is discussed where a gamm-model is fitted, with a smoother for time, which differs for each value of ID (4 different bird species). In earlier versions of R, the following code was used BM2<-gamm(Birds~Rain+ID+
