Do transactions fail with polymorphic has_one relationships?
I have an AR::Base descendant with a complex object graph beneath it, like so: ArtisanQuoteInput has_one QuoteInput and then QuoteInput has several objects attached to it. Note that the relationship between ArtisanQuoteInput and QuoteInput is polymorphic, so the relationship in A is written has_one :quote_input, :as => :program_quote_input If @artisan_quote_input is an instance of

Specifying a response variable in a Bayesian network
I'm trying to teach myself about Bayesian Networks and am working with the following data and the bnlearn package. I understand the conceptual aspects of BNs, but I'm not sure how to specify the response variables in R when constructing a dag plot. I've cecked ?hc and done numerous google searches without luck. Can anyone help? library("bnlearn")

GAM
Hi R community! I am analyzing the data set "motorins" in the package "faraway" by using the generalized additive model. it shows the following error. Can some one suggest me the right way? library(faraway) data(motorins) motori <- motorins[motorins$Zone==1,] library(mgcv) >amgam <- gam(log(Payment) ~ offset(log(Insured))+ s(as.numeric(Kilometres)) + s(Bonus) + Make +

Question re model development
Dear Sir/Madam I'm trying quite a long shot here... I have used R previously, and would just like to know if any software/model has been designed which will allow me to project the future risk profile of a group of insured lives (by factors such as age, gender etc.), based on past and exisiting risk profiles of the covered lives? If you could point me in the direction of a similar project or

Percent damage distribution
R version: 2.7.0 Running on: WinXP I am trying to model damage from fire losses (given that the loss occurred). Since I have the individual insured amounts, rather than sampling dollar damage from a continuous distribution ranging from 0 to infinity, I want to sample from a percent damage distribution from 0-100%. One obvious solution is to use runif(n, min=0, max=1), but this does not seem to be

html/form newbie: trying to upload a little data to a server
Hello! I've been trying for several hours to upload a few bits of data (not a file) from an html form to a server, and none of my variants have worked thus far. I've done some web searching, too. Anyway, here's the form: <form method="POST" action="mmsrequest"> <pre> UserID: <input type="text" NAME="userid"> Date :

[LLVMdev] DIBuilder - what's with the null compile units?
Just a follow up on this - I am still having problems, I never did figure out a solution. (I've been running with debug off for the last month so that I could get work done.) Here's what I am seeing: I am definitely calling DIBuilder::finalize(). I even put a debug print statement right after it, so that I could be sure that the code was being executed. I also insured that it was getting

gcc ubsan alignement test --minimal gcc version?
Dear Prof. Ripley, Thank you for your answer. I think I am way over my head here. (Using Doker adds a level of complexity that I'm afraid I can't manage for now so I am happy with building Rdevel and using it in to run these tests). After building Rdevel with what I think are the correct options** (just to avoid mistakes I have also fully removed R from my system just before and

Authentication failing
I'm running version 2.0 beta. During the initial installation, I configured Samba to authenticate with an NT server. It worked as expected. Now, I want to reconfigure Samba with security = user. I've set encryption = no (and insured that the NT client is sending plain text passwords), and I've removed the references in the smb.conf file to PASSWORD SERVER =. As I expected, the NT

Generalized linear models
I have to fit a generalized linear model in R, and I have never done this before, so I'm in very much doubt. I have a dataset (of 4036 observations) claims sum grp 1 3852 34570293 1 2 1194 7776468 1 3 3916 26343305 1 4 1258 5502915 1 5 11594 711453346 1 ... there are 4 groups (grp). The task

remote logging non-daemon mode
Greetings all. Due to security concerns we are switching our backup processes from "SSH tunnel to rsync daemon" to "Running rsync over ssh in --server mode". In daemon mode we had a nice conglomerate log file of all of the backups that ran. Now that I am tweaking the scripts to run over --server mode I see that by default there is no remote logging. From what I have read on

Convert to as.Date
Hi, I have an vector object that looks like DA <- c("1991q1", "1993q2") (first quarter of 1991 etc) and I want to convert it into a date object using as.Date(). I did this for montly data but am stumped when it comes to dealing with quarterly data and as.Date. Would anyone be able to help? Would be very grateful for any advice, sorry for being such an R-newbie!
