Remove session string from css and js file?
How do you remove the session string from the css and js file? I have already set the ApplicationController session :disabled => true Any suggestions or a site that already has this solution? Image Display Question
Hello there, I have something odd happening to my image tags when displaying an image. Here''s what my ''<img src>'' tags are looking like: <img alt="2-thumb" src="/images/public/uploaded_images/2-thumb.jpg?" /> Notice the question mark at the end of the string. I have no idea where this coming from. Here are the important parts of my

caching of javascript and stylesheets
Is there a standard way to make sure a client''s web browser pulls the latest version of your style sheet or javascript file instead of using a cached one? We are currently using a tedious way where we add a version number to the file (e.g. screen-v12.css) and when Rails boots up it finds the latest version in the style sheet folder. On the other hand, I have seen Basecamp append

Decoupled observers for controllers?
In the Rails Recipes book the recipe "Keeping track of who did what" explains how to do decoupled observing of models. In my application I''d like to do a similar thing but watching the controllers. For example, when somebody hits the login method of the Security controller, I''d like to make a note of it. In this case I could observe the User model and watch for

image_path without timestamp
Every time I use an asset tag helper, there is a parameter appended to the end of my file name. e.g. <input src="/images/search.gif?1213816620" type="image" /> From what I am reading, this appears to be a timestamp for caching purposes. It works in most cases, but I want to use image_path to embed a flash file. .swf file in public/images/flash e.g.

Newb question
This isn''t affecting my app, but I''d like to know the reason why I''m seeing this. In my layout, the following code <%= image_tag "front.jpg", :size =>"760x175" %> generates <img alt="Front" height="175" src="/images/front.jpg?1122106054" width="760" /> Where is the parameter in the

how to remove ID from stylesheet_link_tag?
When I use stylesheet_link_tag, the results come back with a timestamp ID, like this: <link href="/stylesheets/style.css?1154009736" media="screen" rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" /> I don''t want the query string and ID on the end, but I can''t see how to disable this in the docs. How do I do this? thanks, jeff -- Posted via

Misc notes concerning view_paths
Hi all, I''ve been playing in the trunk with putting stuff in different dirs to keep files from a reusable framework separate from the app files. Here are a few considerations regarding the view_paths setting: config.view_path is used to set both action_controller.view_paths and action_mailer.template_root. We get some buggy/unexpected behavior here because

image_tag adding request parameter
I have noticed that the image_tag helper method now appends a request parameter to the generated src attribute. With Rails 1.0/actionpack-1.11.2 I had <img src="/images/rss.gif" /> Now (1.1/1.12.1) I get <img alt="Rss" border="0" src="/images/rss.gif?1142366545" /> Is there any use for that number? Where does it come from? This is very far

Numbers on stylesheet_link_tag and image_tag
Can anyone explain to me exactly what are those numbers that rails appends to stylesheets and images when using stylesheet_link_tag or image_tag? At first I thought it would be so the browser wouldn''t cache the stylesheets, but that doesn''t make much sense for images, plus it seems that the numbers are unique, maybe based on the session. Any idea? Thanks

rails_asset_id, query strings, and browser caching
Hi all. Now that compute_public_path calls _rails_asset_id to append a query string containing the asset file''s modification date, all asset URLs contain query strings. [1] Which, in theory, is a fantastic thing for caching, since it forces browsers to download and not cache changed assets, allows them to cache unchanged assets forever, and has no effect on the actual file or what is

Why are has_one objects resaved when the parent is saved?
If the associated object of a has_one association has been loaded, it is resaved when the parent is saved. Eg: class Person < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :user end class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :person end p = Person.find(:first) p.save # As expected, nothing happens with the user association p.user # Loads the associated object p.save # As well as saving the person, the

test:plugins task dependency on :environment is pointless, surely?
Hello all, I''ve been doing quite a bit of rooting around the plugin system recently, and one thing in particularly has me puzzled and bemused. At the moment, the test:plugins task has a dependency on the :environment task, thus loading up Rails in all it''s resplendent glory. Once it''s done this it uses Rake::TestTask to load the tests for every plugin. However, because

Rails 0.8: Just shy of 100 additions, changes, tweaks, and fixes!
It''s been fifty days since our last confession, so it''s no wonder that this outpouring is by far the biggest yet in Rails history. It''s absolutely packed with goodies ranging from a whole new framework for sending email to the smallest new alias for an existing method. In total we''re just shy of 100 additions, changes, tweaks, and fixes. This is also

expires header for .css
I''m using mongrel as my http server. I was using yslow to evaluate the performance of my web site and noticed I was downloading the .css file on every request??? I use one .css file for the whole site and I though I would be cached? Yslow indicates that there is no expires date/time set for the css file. How can I tell mongrel to send an expires header with my static content? thanks,

Anybody using SCGI in production?
Or does anybody prefer fastcgi/fcgi? I''m using webrick for development, but plan on using scgi when I switch to production (because it appears to be an update to fastcgi, and I couldn''t get fastcgi working anyhow). thanks csn __________________________________ Yahoo!
