using tc to drop packets based on the diffserc or tos value
Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone can help me to resolve a problem.
I am trying to use tc command in linux to drop udp
packets of specific diffserv value.
I am able set diffserv value successfully in the udp packet
using command:-
[root@scotch src]#iptables --table mangle --append OUTPUT \
--out-interface eth0 --protocol udp --source-port 5060 \
--jump DSCP --set-dscp 8
but i am not able to

Suggestion - table of QoS mechanisms
Hi,
A thought for the list. As I mentioned in another
posting, there are a lot of QoS mechanisms out there.
Linux supports some, but not all. Some patchsets add
others, but don''t work for all kernels. There are also
userland implementations, usually sitting in software
routers, but there are other packages.
Would it be helpful if I worked on a table of what''s
out there for

Bridge HFSC QOS questions ...
Hello,
I''ve got somes questions about Bridge and QOS ...
I''ve got a serveur with 2 interfaces eth0,eth1 inside br0 bridge ...
nothing of special ...
If I understand all, normally I should configure TC class and qdisc on
each physical or use ebtables to manage packets on output ... right ?
I''ve attached my qos_script that hsfc and layer7 module. I use only

HFSC and that ATM overhead problem (Another VOIP QoS post. Ahhhh)
G''Day
I would like to be able to use my VOIP telephone over a saturated
ADSL link whilst enjoying optimum audio quality and utilising all of the
bandwidth I pay for. It is about this situation that I write.
HFSC appears to be the queueing discipline of choice for VOIP. In order
for this to work, though, do I have to account for the ATM overhead in
the small VOIP packets by defining my

QoS IP precedence and Diffserv combination
All:
I am tasked with creating an environment in which DiffServ and IP
precedence is handled as close to RFC specification as possible. I have
a few problems with implementing this based on current queueing
structure. Here are a few of my questions.
1.) Is there any way to get DiffServ AF drop levels without using
DSMARK and GRED?
Ex.
AF11 Gred DP 1
AF12 Gred DP 2
AF13 Gred DP 3

Diffserv Research Network
Hi all,
We are a group of research students and working on IPv6 QoS aware Grid.
>From our set of experiments we have a particular case:
Suppose a host A want to initiate traffic of some kind to host B, where A
and B are connected by two intermediate routers wherein there can be other
connections from the router.
Our needs are as follows
1. We assume that routers are Diffserv routers and

Qos, HFSC and VoIP
Hello,
I''m using Linux kernel 2.6.x and tc (from iproute2 package).
I''m trying to use HTB or HFSC scheduler in order to limite the rate of outgoing packets and also in order to minimiez delay for RTP stream.
But I didn''t suceed in having this 2 QoS services working.
I use Iptables in order to classify packets. Here is my HFSC conf.
In fact the pings that i send from

Can i attach another qdisc under classes or root qdisc?
now, i''m learning and try to read a lot of article about tc command in linux for setting traffic shaper.
but i''m doubt about
In the theory about tc command ... In general, we define class under root qdisc
but Is it can be possible ???? If we define another qdisc under root qdisc, Can i do it?
because i have just read tc command syntax and i found this point ...
syntax: tc qdisc

About Diffserv on linux!
Hello,
This is a question about diffserv on linux. We know, there is a file sch_dsmark in
linux source code. Now, i want to add something in the function dsmark_enqueue,
for
example, i want to add a function which can add a class and queue automately in
dsmark_enqueue. That is, not using the command tc. After adding one, it works
well, but
when add the second one, there is a kernel panic:

RED to use ECN (or work at all?)
Dear Community,
sorry for the somewhat dumb question. Maybe someone has any pointer
to how to setup the RED queue to mark pakets with ECN. In particular
what are appropriate parameter settings for limit, min, max, etc.
All my trials end up with either "RTNETLINK answers: Invalid
argument", although the command line (at least for me) looks fine in
regard to what is said on the

Qdisc requeue should be void?
There is an design problem with the qdisc interface that causes qlen related bugs
in netem, tbf, and other qdisc''s that peek at the top of the queue. The problem is
that requeue needs to be called from the dequeue function but requeue can fail.
If requeue fails, then the calling qdisc can not properly handle the error. If it
returns NULL, then the parent''s expectation about qlen

unknown qdisc "dsmark"
hi,
I''m a beginner with qdiscs and other lartc stuff.
After reading the howto and other related documents (i.e. some papers about
linux and diffserv), I decided to start with some test.
I found some example script to implement simple diffserv using dsmark, but,
just after the first command:
tc qdisc add dev eth1 handle 1:0 root dsmark indices 64 set_tc_index
the system answered:

[Bridge] [PATCH/RFC] Let {ip, arp}tables "see" bridged VLAN tagged {I, AR}P packets
Hi all,
The patch below does four trivial changes and one big change
Trivial changes, these are all in br_netfilter.c:
- check ar_pln==4 when giving bridged ARP packets to arptables
- delete unnecessary if in br_nf_local_in
- add more logging for the "Argh" message
- add some brag-comments in the file head comment
Big change: let {ip,arp}tables see VLAN tagged {I,AR}P packets.

[PATCH 1/4] net: skb_orphan on dev_hard_start_xmit
Various drivers do skb_orphan() because they do not free transmitted
skbs in a timely manner (causing apps which hit their socket limits to
stall, socket close to hang, etc.).
DaveM points out that there are advantages to doing it generally (it's
more likely to be on same CPU than after xmit), and I couldn't find
any new starvation issues in simple benchmarking here.

Problem with iptables with -j TOS and MARK
Hy,
I would want to mark the packets that are entering in a machine, with a
mark for using diffserv with DSMARK.
My machine has 2 interfaces, a ethernet and a wireless. The ethernet
interface is eth1 and the other is wifi0.
Firs, I would want to test that I would be able to mark the tos of the
paquets that I would be receiving, for this I write in the console of my
linux:
iptables -A

mgen & tc
Hello,
I have the following proplem. My DiffServ configuration is working fine
when I do ping, but when I use mgen the packets are not detected at the

Here is my core router configuration:

tc filter add dev eth1 parent 1:0 protocol ip prio 1 tcindex mask 0xfc
