Shorewall and snort-inline
Hi, I''m new to the list, but have been through the documentation, archives, etc. looking for more info... I''ve been using shorewall 1.3.14 for a few months now, has been working well from day one. I''m also using it with dshield (submitting logs and using the block list). I''m thinking of adding snort-inline to the mix (I run apache and postfix on the same box,

Odd failure of smbd to start from init.d - CentOS 5.4
Hi, We've got a fresh CentOS 5.4 box, and the only glitch so far is that /etc/init.d/smb doesn't start smbd. It claims it does - shows "[ok]" - but only nmbd ends up running. Even setting a higher debugging level in the smbd flags, nothing logs or shows on the console as to why smbd is immediatly quitting. To make it stranger, doing this works fine: . /etc/init.d/functions

immediate pick up in "s"
I'm configuring a sip trunk. My problem is if I configure the sip device to dial to a sip phone, it works ok but when I dials to "s" or "7777", asterisk picks up the call immediatly and places it's own ring tone instead of waiting until one of the extension configured for answer the call picks up. Is there a way to avoid it? Is it a problem of the sip trunk? Should I

how to define a key to decline incoming call
Hi all. We have Snom phones which do have a defined key in order to drop incoming call WITHOUT answering. Pressing that key, a "SIP/2.0 486 Busy Here" message is sent back. We have other phones (I.E. DECT Siemens C450IP, or ATCOM 320 or other) which DO NOT have any key to do that (or the key does not work, as is with Siemens C450 IP ): you have to answer and immediatly after hangup the

Lag on network using Samba
I am using Samba for a file server and get a lag when accessing files across the network, I assume it is due to inactivity, because the first file I access takes the longest to access, and then other files I access immediatly after are much faster. If I do not access any files for a while I get the problem again. It all works well, but I would really like to get rid of this Lag when opening a

ccf(x,y) vs. cor() of x and lagged values of y
Hi I'm computing the correlation between two time-series x_t and y_t-1 (time-series lagged using the lag(y,-1) function) using the cor() function and the returned value is different from the value of ccf() function at the same lag. Any ideas why this is so? Thanks in advance for any hints. Mihnea [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

mail delivery location wrong
Hi, thanks for offering the oportunity to place a question here. I am now already working since a week to get postfix and dovecot working on a ubuntu 11.04 server. Hard task. First step was naturally to get familiar with the idea behind the archtitecture. I have come very far, but the "last dirty mile" is probably the hardest. My architecture: Postfix Dovecot OpenLDAP Thunderbird as

Unsolvable segmentation fault
I cannot use wine with my windows partition. Whenever I try it , I immediatly get segmentation fault messagens (even when trying to run notepad.exe). If I modify the ~/.wine/dosdevices/c: simlink then wine seems to work well (but this is not a good solution, because I want wine to find programs and dlls in my windows partition). I use kurumin (a brazillian distro based on KNOPPIX. It is basically

Ignoring time spent waiting in queue in CDR
Hello, I'm working on an Asterisk configuration for a call center, and they bill based on the time spent talking to an agent, but not for any time spent waiting in a queue. The CDR information contains the entire duration of the call as billable seconds, including time spent waiting in the queue. I would like the billable seconds to only include the time spent actually talking to an agent.

samba3: need to wait 3 minutes before login
Hi, at our local computer pool in the school we've a samba3 server and about 40 winnt-4.0 workstations. the main problem is, that the workstations have to wait for about 3 minutes after they started, before a user can login. in other words: the computer starts and if you try to login then immediatly you'll get "domain manos not available" or something like this. but if you wait
