RadRails vs. Textmate
Is there anyone out there can give me a comparison between RadRails/ Aptana and Textmate? I have been using skEdit for all of my general coding stuff, but I am now looking into getting a new editor for my Ruby/Rails work. I know that most Mac users swear by Textmate, but I would really like to hear some comparisons between RadRails, Textmate, and even skEdit as well. What your thoughts and

Hi Just upgraded smoothly to long overdue Aptana M7 Beta which was released on 25/9/2007. FYI, the best way to upgrade from July''s M5 (M6 was skipped) is as follows :- 1) Click Help/Software Upgrades/Finad and Install 2) Manually adding the following update site to the update manager: http://update.aptana.com/update/rails/beta/3.2/site.xml

newbie question about mongrel
Hi, I am very new to ruby, rails, and mongrel, so this may not make any sense, but i figured i would ask it anyways. I have been given the task of determining if rails is a good transition for our company. While my preliminary tests have been successful (i.e. installing mongrel, deploying a test app, etc), i have to figure out how to run our existing cgi scripts under our new environment.

Why not mod_ruby?
Hi! I''ve understood that the mod_ruby apache module is not recommended for running Ruby on Rails applications. But I haven''t found any information as to why that is so. Please enlighten me. And could you point me to the (currently) prefered production environment. (That can handle both RoR and PHP sites). Thank you and best regards Hans-Eric Gr?nlund -- Posted via

TDD killing my joy of Rails
I''ve been working through the book ''Beginning Ruby on Rails E-Commerce'' which is very heavy on Test Driven Development. As in, you have to write tests for scaffolding methods and validations and crap like that. And then they fail. And you KNOW its the test not the method. So you spend 2x the time writing a test that has to be adapted when requirements change. You

Install problems: R-o-R on Debian with mod_ruby
Hello, I have tried to setup Ruby-on-rails on my debian Linux machine and can not get it to run. Maybe someone can help. The following was installed already: - apache2 2.0.54 (and PHP5) - Postgresql 8.1 Now, having the ''unstable'' branch in my /etc/apt/sources.list I did: apt-get install libapache2-mod-ruby and Apache reports a "mod_ruby/1.2.4 Ruby/1.8.4"

Rails doesn't scale because RI/transactions in app not db!!!
Not that I have your attention! :P I''ve been having a discussion with a respected colleague here: http://phpbuilder.com/board/showthread.php?t=10340411 (Rails vs. PHP) He''s basically saying that Rails won''t be able to scale because referential integrity and tranactions are done in the application rather than the database. Please read the referenced thread for much more

Frustrated with RoR environment splintering
Why isnt the RoR community focusing on robust and scalable mod_perl style of Apache environment, rather then splintering all over the place with lighthttp, mongrel, WEBrick, SCGI, fcgi, etc??? Its frustrating as someone who is trying to migrate to RoR. Its very unlikely I would ever get a contract to work on any webserver except Apache, so it would seem logicaly to focus all our efforts to

Apache::RailsDispatcher for mod_ruby

It works like this: * require loads libraries into the top level, and they are shared with all applications. * require_dependency loads libraries into an anonymous
