Limiting Bandwidth of an ppp interfaces
Hi everyone.
I''m working on a problem since some days.
I have a linux router with about 100 ppp interfaces. Each interface should
bei limited to an individual bandwidth of 1024kbit, 2048kbit or 3096kbit. Up
AND downstream. (let''s say for example 1024kbit upstream and 1024kbit
downstream)
The reason for this problem: I have to limit users to their booked
bandwidth, because

Info about IFB
Hi, I''m looking for info about IFB devices and how I can use it to
incomming traffic shapping.
Has IFB any web about it?
Do any body known where I can find more info about it?
I found this:
http://linux-net.osdl.org/index.php/IFB
But I can''t stand fine how to use it to allow many ifb''s devices or how
to use it with "tc actions".
Any help?
Thanks

Egress shaping over multiple interfaces?
Hello,
After reading the excellent HOWTO I got traffic shaping working nicely over
ethernet devices on a test setup. I can''t put this setup live though, because
our main firewall has three 2mbit hdlc interfaces instead of a single device.
We are using multipath routing using iproute2 nexthop at the moment, and that
works fine for firewalling. But now I have a need for shaping and

Re: Standalone Shaping
On a router, there is no need for and IMQ because there is always an
egress path.
For example:
Internet -> eth1 -> iptables -> routing -> ... -> egress qdisc ->
eth0 -> LAN
LAN -> eth0 -> iptables -> routing -> .... -> egress qdisc -> eth1
-> Internet
Local Process / Proxy -> routing -> iptables -> egress qdisc ->
eth1/eth0 ->

Traffic shaping on multiple interfaces
I''m trying to setup traffic shaping on my linux gateway/router.
The system has 3 interfaces:
eth0 - My LAN - with IP address 192.168.0.254
eth1 - The ethernet connection to which my ADSL modem is connected. This
has a 10.25.x.x IP, more on this later. The ADSL link has an upstream of
~1.2mbit.
ppp0 - The PPP connection which is my WAN connection, with a real world IP.
The system acts

Shaping incoming VoIP traffic fails
Hello,
I''m trying to get lossless VoIP traffic over my 3000k/500k ADSL line. Shaping
outgoing traffic is no problem: I set total ceil for outgiong device (ppp0)
to 450kbit and put VoIP into highest prio class. Even during full upload the
voice is clean on the other end.
Now I tried to get the same result for incoming data. I attached HTB to eth1
where the incoming voip traffic is

Combining ingress and egress ( IMQ+HTB)
I am successfully running ingress (IMQ) and egress (HTB) shaping on a
bridge.
Is there any way to combine and share the bandwidth between ingress and
egress?
Example:
I have set up www service for egress at 128 KB and ingress at 256 KB. The
shaping on them works fine separately. However, I want to create a single
virtual pipe for www traffic and limit both ingress and egress combined to
256 KB.

How can I discern egress traffic than ingress traffic?
I have two interfaces, eth0 and eth1 but i can''t
discern the egress traffic than ingress traffic. I
need to apply htb qdisc in both directions, and I read
that I need the IMQ patch to do this, because in
ingress qdisc i can''t apply htb qdisc...but where is
the ingress qdisc? affect the traffic that goes from
eth0 to eth1 or is for the traffic that goes from eth1
to eth0?

I''ve just discovered that trying to pass traffic from multiple interfaces

showed me older posts on this list saying that it''s simply incorrect to pass
such traffic through the same imq dev. I''m now back to square one on using

IFB & ESFQ
Hello Tom,
Sorry, please but i again return to IFB question. If i correct
understand
in current situation IFB haven't profit from ESFQ in common cases (i mean
internal networks masquarading) so as we wait from ESFQ allocates bandwidth
fairly per source IP(internal) but IFB don't know internal IPs.
If i correct, what do you think what can help IFB to solve its main
disadvantage

multiple IFBs
Hi all,
Further to my previous questions, I need lots of IFBs on this thing.
I have configured IFB as a module, and issuing a modprobe ifb loads it,
but only gives me 2 IFBs (ifb0 and ifb1). How can I get more? I''m
probably looking at needing about 20 on this project.

traffic shaping with two internal interfaces
Hi,
my shorewall is version 4.0.15 on Debian Lenny. I have 3 following
interfaces:
eth0 net (4mbit/512kbit)
eth1 loc (100mbit)
eth2 loc (100mbit)
I want to shape traffic from net on two lan interfaces like:
- default is 2000mbit for each local interface
- if is no traffic on eth1 is 4mbit for eth2 (and vice versa)
My tcdevices
eth0 4000mbit 512kbit

complex; ifb, masq et omnia
Hi all.
I''m using Jamal''s ifb virtual interface from new kernel. Redirecting incoming
traffic from external interface like that:
# tc [blahbla] match u32 0 0 flowid 1:0 action mirred egress redirect dev ifb0
to ifb to shape it.
The problem is that I''m using MASQUERADE by netfilter also. That redirected
traffic coming from internet gets to ifb _before_ DNAT is done.

egress bandwidth not limited / limited extremely inaccurately
I''m just-so-fresh to the list, so hello everyone.
I''m having a realy hard time with setting up very simple bandwidth
management. What I am trying to do is setup a 10Mbit interface to send
at only 1920kbit to most of the network (to make sure it hardly ever
tops 2mbit). I did succeed with the ingress traffic... With egress
however, I get very odd results at different speeds.

shaping using source IP after NAT
Hi all
I am using a pass trhu router and I need to QoS some clients output by its
IP address. The problem is that QoS is due after NATing.
Is there some clever way of doing this besides MARKing every packet with
some IP hashing in POSTROUTING NAT table?

Shaping of pppoe clients
Guys
After reading through the archives I found some insightful ways to be
able to shape traffic to pppoe clients from the server. I have two
questions on the topic of setting up a pppoe server however...
1. The clients will all be connected to each other using a normal
ethernet network, the segments connected with managed switches. The
capacity is roughly 500 nodes. Will these pppoe sessions
