In answer to your questions - the smb.conf was from the PCLOS machine.  Question - I had tried sec=ntlm in the mount statement without it being in the smb.conf - did that not work because ntlmv1 had not been enabled? Well, yesterday my 5.1 and 4.6 systems could connect to torrent.centos.org OK. Today neither system can connect. I can ping, but that's all. No changes were made to the firewall during this time. My working zfs was newsan/tmp and when the torrent completed i had transmission configured to move the files to newsan/incoming.
