specific Host not overriding global Host
My config file contains
Host *
VisualHostKey yes
Host app
VisualHostKey no
however when I ssh into app I still see the VisualHostKey.
It is my understanding that the more specific host should override the
global defaults. When I asked on IRC they told me to report the issue
to this mailing list.
I know my version of OpenSSH is old, but I checked bugzilla and did
not see any bug reports about

Side by Side Barplot Newbie Question
Hi,
Many apologies for sending this twice. I accidentally hit the send button
before I finished writing my mail. I am new to R and I hope someone can
help me with my problem. I am trying to draw a side by side barplot.
There is a main experiment and there are many sub experiments within the
main experiment. I would like to draw a bar plot showing the number and type

Problem talking to SSH 2.3.0 server
I'd like to report a problem I found with the OpenSSH client talking
to the SSH 2.3.0 server.
client: i686-pc-linux (Debian 2.2, kernel 2.2.18pre19, glibc-2.1.3),

Rekeying
Hello,
I apologize that this is slightly off topic.
According to the Internet Draft I found for SSH ver 1
(draft-ietf-tls-ssh-00.txt from Jun 13, 1996), the client or server can
send a SSH_MSG_KEXINIT at any time to force a new key exchange. I looked
through the code for OpenSSH and ssh-1.2.27 and can't find where it does
this. I then searched the Secure Shell mailing list archives and saw

rekeying in SSH-2 and session setup?
Dear all,
while playing around with openssh-4.1p1 (trying to add AFS token
forwarding in SSH-2), I noticed that agressive rekeying (as e.g.
employed by regress/rekey.sh, rekeying every 16bytes) seems to disturb
the various forwardings (X11, agent) set up at the beginning of the
session. These do not trigger regression test errors, since the client
does not ask for confirmation from the server for

About setpcred() and chroot()
Hi,
I need to use sftp-only accounts, chroot()ed in their home dirs, on AIX 5.3
with OpenSSH_5.2p1.
But there is a problem with the chroot() call.
In the do_setusercontext() function, chroot() is called after the setpcred()
(only AIX is concerned by the setpcred() call), so privileges are already
dropped when chroot() is called.
When not calling setpcred(), the chroot() does not fail and the

openssh sftp chroot /bin/false
hi!
i need ssh users and sftp users on my server. they don't mix so sftp users have a /bin/false
as their shell.
however when i try a ssh connect to such a user. he does not get disconnected but hangs forever.
can it be that sshd searches foer /bin/false in the chroot environment?
but i tried to place it there including ldd requirements. no success.
i just want sftp users to get no shell

scp with different users
This may be a dumb question, but is there any reason why
scp a at b:c d:
fails, where
scp a at b:c .
scp c d:
succeeds?
I get "Host key verification failed.". I'm using nothing more complex
than RSA authorized_hosts based authentication.
I'm seeing this on openssh-client 1:5.8p1-1ubuntu3 and
OS-X 10.6 OpenSSH_5.2p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8r 8 Feb 2011.

Converting SSH2 keys for use in OpenSSH
I have a couple of keys generated using the F-Secure SSH2 client. I have converted those keys using "ssh-keygen -i -f samplekey.txt >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys". When I try and log into the OpenSSH server using those keys, OpenSSH rejects using those keys.
I am under the assumption that this is supposed to work. If I connect using a password, there is no problem. It just does not

ssh trouble checklist
Hi.
There should be a checklist of everything that can go wrong with
making an ssh connection.
Here's one entry for the list, which I didn't know before, and
* I couldn't see the problem from the -ddd and -vvv output, and
* there were no /var/log/* file entries to give hints.
Here's what I did
sudo kill <pid-of-sshd>
/usr/sbin/sshd
No good.
Usually I did kill

SSH 2.2.0
Yo All!
I have been playing with SSH 2.2.0 from www.ssh.com. I can not
connect to openssh 2.2.1p1 using Ver 2 protocol from ssh Ver 2.2.0.
Ver 1 works fine.
See below for the debug output from both ends
If I force hmac-md5 (-m hmac-md5) from the sender it works!
The other 3 choices fail: hmac-sha1; hmac-md5-96; and none.
I have no problem connecting to this openssh host (hobbes) from

RedHat 7.0 openssh-2.2.0p1-5 vs ssh 2.3.0
Hello,
I am using RedHat's most recent openssh-2.20p1-5 srpm recompiled
on Linuxppc under glibc 2.1.95/Linux 2.4-test10pre2/gcc 2.95.3(cvs).
I have noticed an oddity when connecting to machines running ssh
2.3.0's sshd2 server. While the connections occur with no problem
after awhile the connection fails when idle with the following
error message...
Hm, dispatch protocol error: type
