"nis homedir" issue on samba- 3.6.9-151.el6 (CentOS 6.4 64bit)
maybe there is a bug regarding the use of nis to mount the user's home
directory at the login or my misconfiguration.
After the CentOS 6.4 (64bit) installation I checked for the latest samba
version on the official repository using yum: the latest version (that was
already installed) is samba- 3.6.9-151.el6.

Need to restart ypserv to update the nis maps
Hi
I use NIS om my network (CentOS4.6). When an update on a map occurs
(home directory changed in /etc/passwd for instance), I run make -C
/var/yp/ and check the result on a client. On the client I use "ypcat
passwd" and find indeed that the update has propagated (the clients run
ypbind service). On the client I have configured /etc/nsswitch.conf with :

CentOS 6 and NIS not working
I am having no luck getting NIS to work on a clean install of CentOS 6. It seems to be an issue with ypbind.
I have simple /etc/yp.conf which explicitly sets the server
domain myDomain server myServer
The service seems to start okay
#service ypbind start
Starting NIS service: [OK]
Binding NIS service: ? [OK]
But when I try to use any of the yp services, like ypwhich
#ypwhich

Does NIS/yp work for authentication
If a host is running NIS (passwd file ends in +::0:0:::) authentication,
will dovecot be able to authenticate with
auth_userdb = passwd
directly and automagically or do you have to do a ypcat passwd > pwfile periodically
to generate a passwd file that dovecot can use?
?
Thanks!

samba PDC/NIS client
I have a server which is a samba PDC and has recently been converted to an
NIS client. For historic reasons, many users login information is in the
local machine's /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow files.
samba is set up to use a tdbsam database.
I got the first indication of problems when I tried to add a user using the
smbpasswd -a command. I found that smbpasswd would not recognize the user

nis homedir
I would be grateful if anybody could supply some more information on the
'nis homedir' option (Samba 1.9.17a4). We have home directories spread
over several Samba hosts. Although they can be accessed via 'amd' from
any other server it would be a great benefit to be able to guarantee
that all connections were made directly to the correct server. The man
page looks promising but I

NIS/Samba update
My test setup consists of Enterprise 5 server running NIS and Samba, and
dual-boot XP and CentOS 5 clients.
On my test setup, I'm able to create new samba accounts and change samba
passwords with no problems.
NIS still gives me problems, though. I am unable to change passwords no
matter what. Also, ypwhich on the client returns localhost.
I have reviewed everything, including configs

Samba, encrypted passwds and nis (not nis+)
I've been scouring the web and have picked up bits and pieces, but nothing
concrete on this issue.
I currently have a samba server that is set up to use NIS from another
server. What I'd like to do is either a) convert the ypcat password list
into a smbpasswd file or b) just use smbpasswd to create entries for a few
users. In other words, I want the smbpasswd file to provide passwords

SAMBA ADS to NIS mapping
I am working in an environment with an HP-UX NIS that my Red Hat ES 4.x
system is using for Unix access controls.
My Red Hat system is serving as an NFS server for the HP-UX users who also
could be Windows users coming from a Windows Server 2003 active directory.
I have tested some configurations of SAMBA using winbind, but I don't get
the results I want. What happens when using winbind

mount.cifs doesn't do japanese?
On a FC2 system (which includes kernel 2.6.5 and samba-3.0.3), I am
able to use "smbmount" to mount filesystems with japanese filenames on
them by specifying codepage=cp932. But when I mount with "mount.cifs"
the translation from SJIS to UTF-8 isn't done right:

question about predict.gam
I'm fitting a Poisson gam model, say
model<-gam(a65tm~as.factor(day.week
)+as.factor(week)+offset(log(pop65))+s(time,k=10,bs="cr",fx=FALSE,by=NA,m=1),sp=c(
0.001),data=dati1,family=poisson)
Currently I've difficulties in obtaining right predictions by using
gam.predict function with MGCV package in R version 2.2.1 (see below my
syntax).

Inconsistent NIS Client Behavior w/ Centos 7.6
Hi All.
I am working on bringing back a number of Centos 7 rigs in our student computer lab back online. No change was made to the existing server machine [running Scientific Linux 6]
Right now there is one remaining thing to resolve: an inconsistency with the rigs' NIS Clients.
I have configured rcpbind and ypbind following guidance from Server World (

PDF file not getting deleted in File Share Folder!
Hi
We are facing an issue with Samba3.0.25b. Some pdf files are not getting
deleted from Samba fileshare.
The sequence to reproduce this bug is as follows.
Copy 150 PDF files in a shared folder.
Open the file share (FILE_SHARE) from Windows XP+SP2.
1. open 1.pdf file then close 1.pdf file
2. Delete the 1.pdf file.
3. now, open 2.pdf file then close 2.pdf file
4. Delete the 2.pdf file.

Problem with yppasswd ans openssh on Irix
Hi,
I compiled openssh 2.1.1p1 on Irix 6.2 with MIPS 7.2.1.2m compiler. All
works fine except the yppasswd command from Irix (it's no NIS-problem,
same with rlogin works):

Samba and Winbind
Hello eveyone,
Thanks in advance, for what every help you can provide me :)
I'm trying to get Winbind to work at home, but I seem to be getting nowhere
awfully fast. Here's my situation.
I have a server (Redhat 9.0) called Mail... which acts as SAMBA PDC,
NIS/NFS, MAIL, DNS and DHCP server. In addition, I have two other servers
setup. 1 is an Windows 2000 standalone server, that

NFS automount failure
I'm having a problem with automount (autofs) from a server running
CentOS 5.4 to clients (example is CentOS 5.4). Client pulls automount
maps from NIS. THIS particular server is also used for login so it is
NIS bound as well (other servers are NOT).

W2k fails to join samba domain
Ok, I have a really frustrating one here.
Attached is the capture of what is on the wire when this win2k box is trying to
join the domain. It was given user "root" and password "dork" to join the
domain "aussec". The win2k box just comes up with unknown user or bad password...
I must be missing something as another linux box can join the domain properly

This is in regards to bug 3084, I am trying to find out why samba is
