Handytone 286 - calling out
Hi, Just received recently released Grandstream handytone 286 ATA for testing. I can call ATA from any other extensions and conversations seems to be of quite good quality. However placing calls from ATA is not possible at all to any extensions. After dialing there no indications of any kind from ATA at all. It just "hangs in there". ATA is behind NAT, registers to an * with public IP

ATA shootout: PAP2T versus Grandstream Handytone 286
I'm considering a situation where I buy about twenty ATA devices. I've played with the Linksys / Cisco PAP2T, and got that working fine with some inbound and outbound faxing. The web GUI was okay. I'm seeing prices around $45 to $50 for this thing. It comes with two FXS ports, but I only need one FXS. I've seen the Grandstream Handytone 286 online. It looks promising as an

single port voip gateways
I have used the handytone 488 from grandstream in the past.... However I need to be able to send a number to a unit like the 488 and have it dial out. Is there a unit like this available? Basically a 488 unit that can place a call out. Jerry

Solution to my Grandstream lockups
Like many others on this list, I had been experiencing periodic lockups with my Grandstream products (Handytone 286 ATA & BudgeTone 101). The lockups consisted of seemingly dead devices, no dialtone or response, until I power cycled via software or hardware. The workaround had been to reboot the device every 30 minutes with a cron job. I contacted Grandstream and although they didn't

What ATA should I buy?
I have running * without any Digium (or any other) hardware. Now I need to connect analog FAX machine to it. I think that cheapest and easiest way is to buy ATA. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Now, which ATA should I buy? Local dealer sells those four. I can buy something else (if there is any reason for it), but I prefer something of this. One more question, can I plug two lines in any of

ATA's and faxing
Hi All Is there any special configuration needed to send and receive faxes on an ATA device? I am using G711.a with a Grandstream Handytone 486. I can send faxes from a fax machine on the ATA, but receiving doesn't work. I get the fax signal, but it just doesn't continue. The LAN is used purely for VoIP traffic. Garth

Home Test!
Hi everybody! I'm from Argentina, so you'll have to sorry me for my English. I have a Linux box with asterisk and want to buy an ATA. Fist, I thought about the Grandstream HandyTone but I read some reviews which says that it has a lot of echo. Some people recommended me Sipura 2000 but I don't know what to do. Now I just to make some tests at home and see what happens and if it works

sip device discussion and reviews
Good evening. I just wanted to take a minute and review my experiences with some of the SIP devices out there on the market. I hope this post will help newbies or someone considering a certain device. I would appreciate any other input on either the devices I am "reviewing" or other devices that I didn't! These devices are deployed in our primary line and small PBX replacement

SIP, * and clients behind NAT
I am new to VOIP, Linux and Asterisk. Through a lot of reading (this list, voip-info.org, documentation, etc.), I successfully installed FC3 and * on a new Dell SC420 with two X100P connecting to two PSTN lines at my office. I've also installed AMP to help me configure IVRs, call groups, extensions, etc. I use a Handytone-286 ATA and x-lite clients on the internal network and all works

Strange second REINVITE being sent
I'm using Asterisk a SIP Server for a lot of GrandStream HandyTone ATA's. Each one of them is configured in sip.conf as: [1234567] type=friend username=1234567 secret=1234567 callerid="ATA 1234567" host=dynamic nat=yes qualify=yes disallow=all allow=g729 canreinvite is set globally to YES. When one ATA calls another, I see the next traffic on Ethereal (just shown the sequence

* behind NAT, client behind NAT(handytone 286), very strange behavior
Hi All, I've an Asterisk Server behind a NAT. Using DNAT, I've opened port 5060 and all 10000:20000 udp. Sip configured with externalip and subnet. I've another site, also with NAT, where I map the rtp port (as defined in the client) to map to the local client (DNAT). Using Xlite, this configuration works, it requires using the quality=yes and NAT=yes/always in the sip ext

Connecting a Grandstream Handytone 486 to Asterisk
Hello, I bought a Grandstream Handytone 486 to forward incoming calls from our old analogue PBX to the asterisk server. My first test was connecting an analogue phone to the Handytone and calling a sip phone - worked. Now I used the same cable to connect the line port of the Handytone to the analogue pbx. When I call the number of the analogue PBX I hear a clicking inside, but the call

T.38 - make conclusion
This is one long letter about T.38 and Asterisk. I hope it will help me, and lots of other Asterisk users to understand some T.38 problems with Asterisk. This is my situation: I have Panasonic DX600 FAX machine. It's connected to Asterisk 1.2.13 thru ATA adapter (I have used both, Cisco 186 and Grandstream HandyTone 386). Asterisk is connected with my SIP provider. That link that my provider

is IAX required for firewall and router?
I'm trying to understand IAX and whether or not it would solve my difficulties: 'The primary goals for IAX were to minimize bandwidth used in media transmissions, with particular attention drawn to control and individual voice calls, and to provide native support for NAT (Network Address Translation) transparency. Another goal is to be easy to use behind firewalls.'
