Rapid Ajax requests out of order
I''m trying to write an ajax chat. I''m noticing that when ajax requests
are fired off
in rapid succession, they often will arrive out of order to the
server. Has anyone
experienced this problem, and perhaps implemented some kind of queueing system?
Any other suggestions? Thanks!
Thanks,

How do you use :on_hide in auto_complete_field?
I''m trying to get some auto_complete_field stuff going, and I have them
working for the most part, but I can''t quite get how the :on_hide option
works. I''m hoping that I can populate a hidden field with the id of the
chosen record with it...is that going to be possible? Thanks for your
help.

url_for: :overwrite_params went missing
Somewhere between 0.13.1 and the current SVN version
the :overwrite_params option to url_for (and related methods) went
missing. I can''t tell whether this was deliberate or by mistake, and I
have no idea how to get the same functionality in some other way
either.

configure issue (ac_cv_lib_inet_connect) on DYNIX/ptx
Greetings -
In trying to get rsync-2.5.6pre1 working on DYNIX/ptx, I found I
needed to pass ac_cv_lib_inet_connect=no to configure in order for
it actually create a properly configured config.h file.
I think this is because configure looks for connect in libinet,
(and finds one there somehow). But connect() is resolved by libsocket
(but configure doesn't find it when

Salted Login Generator issues
Hello all,
I''ve just installed and begun to integrate the salted login generator.
So far I''m very impressed, though I''ve hit a few snags along the way.
Unfortunately, I''ve met the first one that I haven''t been able to
resolve on my own.
When I hit the login action, I get errors in my log files. The specific
error with trace is included below.

Family Connection 0.9
Family Connection is an easy-to-setup online hub for your family that
includes a Family News section, and an Address Book. Currently,
there is no documentation on installing the Rails application itself
(hence the 0.9 version number).
Once installed, Family Connection guides the family website
administrator through a simple two-page setup process. The web
application restricts access

Differentiating between normal site content and accounts with subdomains
I''m using the subdomains as accounts method fine on a project, but
I''m wondering what is the best way to differentiate between account
subdomains to access the app using an account, and www.domain.com and
domain.com in order to show normal site content.
I''ve noticed that on Backpack, it seems that when you leave the
information pages and start using the app,

Using Runt with Rails Tutorial or Helpers?
I''m working on a project that has event scheduling and I need to get
date recurrence going on it. I found the Runt library which looks like
it has pretty much everything handled, but I was wondering if there are
any tutorials out there for using Runt with Rails, or better yet some
helpers or a plugin for it. I tried searching through the mailing list
archives, but searching is down

Accessing Strongspace from a rails app
Is there any information on how to go about accessing a strongspace
account from a rails app? What are the preferred methods for doing
this?
Are there plugins for RoR that support SFTP transfers and so on?

Using RJS templates with observe_form
Hi there,
I''ve been checking out RJS templates, and have been trying to use them
with the observe_form helper.
However, the form values are no longer being passed in the params (as
soon as I point the action to the non-rjs and add the ''update'' clause
everything is working again). Is this expected?
Cheers,
Dave

tracking online users
Let''s say I have an application and I want to create an admin program
that will show me who is currently online using the application. I
don''t know the best way to do this. Assuming I am storing my sessions
in the default PStore, I don''t suppose there is any method that lists
all the active sessions, is there?
The only way I can think of to do this is to setup a

image uploads not working with lighttpd
Hi I thought it was time to test my app out on a real server. So i have
installed lighttpd following the instruction on the rails wiki.
everything seems to work fine except the file upload page. It doesn''t
throw any errors, it just doesn''t seem to write the image to disk.
Nothing is printed to the lighttpd error log when the file upload fails.
I thought it might be my code

Production Server That Just Works?
Hi,
Love Rails...
I''m looking for a Production Quality Server that brings the same ease of
use as Rails does to web development.
I''ve tried TextDrive, and never got it to work. I''m sure there are good
reasons why it didn''t work but they are beyond me. I''ve contacted tech
support there several times, and it seems that there are so many setups

rails named scopes and sql injection
HI guys,
I just came through an example on code of the place I work for that said
something like this could be vulnerable to sql injection attacks:
scope :with_name, lambda { |name| where("LOWER(name) LIKE ?",
name.downcase) }
I wonder if this is true. My thought is that rails should escape this and
that anything that tried to do something different would fail on the
translation

Problem with fileupload on SMB share
Hello,
i have got a serious problem with fileuploads on SMB shares.
Iam implementing a program that watches a folder for new file and show status e.g. incoming, growing, complete. With FTP and simply copying from another folder on the same box there is no problem. But if i use smb to copy a file to that folder, from the first moment to full filesize is displayed. In this case all my functions

nuby: do models have to inherit directly from ActiveRecord?
Hello,
I have a few models -- book, cd, dvd -- for which I''d like to have an
abstract base superclass to hold some common stuff. That abstract class, I
was thinking, would inherit from ActiveRecord.
Didn''t work, though, and looking around, I found this:

Rspec devise, testing extended RegistrationController action destroy
Hi everyone,
I have devise 1.5.4 working with rails 3.0.20 and ruby 1.8.7 .
I have extended the destroy action from the RegistrationController, to soft
delete users instead of really deleting them from the database.
def destroy
# raise resouce.inspect # this is just to see if the test hits the
action
resource.soft_delete
set_flash_message :notice, :destroyed
