"Cannot convert String to Integer" after using association
So, I''ve written a partial that does some stuff with a given instance of
my class "entity". Entity is ActiveRecord. I''m able to retrieve all
sorts of data from an @entity, until I do something like:
<% for @attribute in @entity.attributes %>
<div id="attribute_<%= @attribute.id %>">

Rails bug? Conditions on associations ignored by eager loading
I''m looking for someone to confirm the following as a bug in Rails
1.0 before I post it to Trac.
If I use eager loading on an association that has conditions defined,
the conditions are ignored.
The following example illustrates the problem. I have two tables:
create_table "blogs", :force => true do |t|
t.column "name", :string
end

how to use activemodel collection.build for a has_many :through association
Hi all,
In my controller I am doing the following to populate a nested form for a
has_many through association:
def new
@specification = Specification.new
Component.find_each.each do |component|
@specification.component_specifications.build(:component_id =>
component.id)
end
The idea being whenever someone creates or edits a form, it will be
populated with all

Deleting join association of has_many :through
I''m trying to use has_many :through, since my join model deserves being
more than just an intersection table.
But when I try to break the association, the break only seems
"temporary":
Let''s say my two tables are Users and Colors, and the join model is
Favorites.
user = Users.find(1)
user.colors.length
>> 2
c = user.colors.first
>> #<Color:....>

Altering the accessor of an association collection
I want to be able to do something like this (for example):
class Person < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :friends
def friends(living_in = :uk)
# filter based on parameters here
end
end
Is there any way I can redefine the accessor for an association whilst
still being able to get the values? Basically, I''m looking for an
equivilent of read_attribute() for associations.

Model: self is not child's parent
Assume a model Parent and another model Child. Child belongs_to Parent
and Parent has_many Children. The following fails:
@
p = Parent.find(:first)
assert p.equal?(p.children[0].parent)
@
It seems odd to me that I and my child''s parent are not the same object.
In fact, this is royally screwing me up. Can anyone tell me why this is

Partner Keys on Innovaphone
Hello,
when using BLF with Asterisk 1.6, I notice that the Caller-ID
information is not displayed on the monitoring key of my Innovaphone IP200A.
If the IP-phone of my colleague rings, I should see on my partner key
the number of the caller. This is information that is being send in the
xml-body of the NOTIFY-message.
I do not see this information in the xml-body of a NOTICE-message from

AAF: find_by_contents on AR Association Total Hits
I seem to be getting some behaviour thats unexpected (for me anyway)
when using find_by_contents on an ActiveRecord has_many association. The
results that are returned are only the records that belong to the model
returned, but the total_hits that are being returned appear to be for
the whole table.
e.g.
class Book < AR::Base
has_many :pages
end
class Page < AR::Base
belongs_to :book

More than one has_many :through association between the same 2 models
I wonder if you can have more than one has_many :through association between
2 models.
For example...
I have a model Teacher and a model Class
Now, 1 Teacher works in many Classes, right?. So I need a join model like
class Work < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :teacher
belongs_to :class
end
But I also would like to know if a teacher CAN teach a class before I

undefined local variable or method `invoices' for Provider:Class
I''m pretty new to Rails, and I think my app has progressed quicker than
my knowledge of Rails/Ruby has ...
I have the following models:

has_many :invoices
has_one :user
def self.get_invoices
invoices.find(:all)
end
end
class User < ActiveRecord::Base

Specify and validate requirements on an ActiveRecord association
Looking for some guidance/support on what feels like might not be an
uncommon use-case.
`User.has_many accounts`
`User.has_many payment_methods`
`Account.belongs_to :user`
`Account.belongs_to :payment_method`
`PaymentMethod.has_many :accounts`
There are lots of `Accounts`. When I (a `User`) want to assign
accounts to a `PaymentMethod`, I really don''t want to scope against
all of them,

Overwriting / Decorating ActiveRecord association accessor
Hi,
I am trying to overwrite the accessor of a has_many association.
Basically my class looks like this:
class Person
has_many :emails
has_one :link, :class_name => ''PersonProxy''
def emails_with_link
link.emails + emails_without_link
end
alias_method_chain :emails, :link
end
Now that works fine if I only access the collection like

Creating a "Foo has_many bars" association where bar isn''t a model.
Hi
Let''s say we have model Foo. Each Foo instance can have several bars.
Those bars are primitive, so they shouldn''t be models. For example,
Foo might be a type of convention, and the bars might be years the
convention was held in. Naively, we would have a conventions_years
date, and put:
has_many :years
inside class Convention. But then we''d get an error, since for

Adding objects to a :through association
So I''m one of those nasty people building a self-referential
habtm-like Association using the funky new :through stuff. This is
about users having friends, so here''s my user.rb:
class User < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :friendships, :foreign_key => ''user_id''
has_many :friends, :through => :friendships, :source => :friend
end

Rails 4 deprecation of in-place edit methods for collection associations
Hi everyone!
For those of you who are not noticed the in-place edit method for
collection associations are broken in the current rails release - 4.0.0,
and here''s what is cooking in the rails master
https://github.com/rails/rails/commit/1a40be02113287d9a003f8224e91b9f623857f4b

Strange behaviour with ActiveRecord has_many collections, Rails 4 compared to Rails 3
Hi All,
I have been told to post discussion based topic on here instead of the
GitHub Issues.
I thought this ''could'' be a bug, but just need some clarification really.
The issue I posted is here <https://github.com/rails/rails/issues/12597>,
does anyone have any thoughts?
Again: https://github.com/rails/rails/issues/12597
Thanks a lot.
