Traffic monitor per IP
Hi, I´ve been using iptraf for real time traffic monitoring and it works fine. But I would like to know if anyone knows other package to monitor traffic per IP in real time, without requiring each IP''s MAC address as I have some terminals behind a router that hides their MAC. Cacti/MRTG works like this but not in real time. Thanks for your ideas. Regards, Edo

Real time traffic monitor like iptraf
Hi, Just wondering, how you guys monitor traffic per ip to test if the traffic shaping is working? iptraf works great but no new version is available, and most ip accounting projects (MRTG & Friends) update its graphics on a per minute process. So I´d like to know which project you use to monitor bandwidth use in real time. Regards, Edo

mark and route traffic in a bridge
Hi all !! I would to like to mark and route some kind of traffic (ie: outbound www, now by simplicity) ---inet1--------eth0------------| | | linux | --eth1------- clientes ---inet2(90.0.0.1)--------eth2-| | I have eth0 and eth1 bridged (eth2 is not bridged). I would to route www outbound clients

Detect and mark ''bulk'' http traffic
To give fast web browsing on my network, I prioritise http traffic by marking it all into a high priority band (''30''). This generally works quite well, as unidentified traffic such as p2p falls by default into a lower priority band (''40''). However, I would like to de-prioritise anyone doing large downloads over http, which currently get high priority. Is there

macaddress traffic log
Hi I want to log lan ethernet (by macaddress) traffic with iptraf: /usr/sbin/iptraf -f -l eth1 -t 1 -B -L /scripts/mac-traff.log and next with a perl script parse that data to MRTG. But, I think when iptraf is running I can show iptraf LAN traffic console. there is another way to log ethernet (by MACADDRESS) lan traffic ? regards andres

Detecting p2p traffic
After varying degrees of success with p2p detection modules, I would like to write the following rules using iptables to reliably identify p2p traffic: 1. If a host on the network has 5 or more simutaneous tcp connections to ports above 1024, mark all connections to ports 1024 and above as 60. 2. If a host has received (or sent) UDP packets from 5 different hosts'' ports above 1024 in a

cbq dosen''t shape on MARK for one host.. strange!
Hello all, this is my first post here. Sorry for my english. Gentoo LAN router, 2.4.26-hardened-r2 There are 2 WAN links, one LAN link. I am doing some iptables/routing/tc magic in my scripts. What''s interesting is marking packets traveling from all IP''s in LAN. Interesting commands are: ------------- for ip in `seq 50`; do $IPTABLES -t mangle -A FORWARD -o eth2 -d

wanted A tool to measure bandwidth....
Hello Everybody, I have configured a Linux box that does traffic shaping. Its working wonderfully fine, just as expected...Now i want to measure the bandwidth consumed by each of my hosts....But I dont want SNMP to run on all the hosts[as required by MRTG] I used iptraf on my linux box, but it only measures the bandwidth on interface basis only.... I tried installing traffic-vis, its not working

Modifying traffic shaping rates according to the amount of active users
Hi, I''m trying to divide my bandwidth between different services, but I''d like to take into account the number of active users. For example, l want divide my bandwidth between HTTP and SMTP and guarantee HTTP 80% of the bandwidth. However, I have many users on my system (tens of thousands) and if only 1% of my active users are using HTTP (and the other 99% SMTP), I''d

Trafic monitor

simple traffic shaping problem
Hi All, I read the advanced networking howto and find a useful way to shape my adsl link. is says: "tc qdisc add dev ppp0 root tbf rate 220kbit latency 50ms burst 1500 [...] Change 220kbit to your uplinks *actual* speed, minus a few percent. If you have a really fast modem, raise ''burst'' a bit. " My adsl''s upload brandwidth is about 120 kbits/sec,

NAT-aware traffic analysis
I have tried using iptraf for my NAT firewall to analyse the IP traffic. Basically I am faced with this difficulty of related the source IP to the outgoing interface to the internet, so I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a different ways to do it, or a suggestion for a better tool. Details :- Supposed : eth0 - LAN eth1 - WAN1 eth2 - WAN2 And then

ntop performance
Hey all, I wanted to let you all know the hex thing worked out for me. Thanks again. I had another question though that was sparked by Ionut Gogu''s question on monitoring. I setup and installed ntop for this purpose and noticed that we have so much traffic it is killing the machine. We have 1 GB of ram in there and it is not enough. It still overflows to the swap file and eats about

OT - Is there a package to monitor network traffic
We have a situation here that is a real mystery. Our MRTG on our outgoing router and a firewall server that protects our web servers is showing a spike every six hours. I can't find the server behind the firewall that is generating such an extreme amount of packets, even though I've looked through the crontabs of nearly all servers, performed "ps" variations, and other

LARTC Wiki
Hi all, Since the mail list receives a lot of repeated subjects (for example: "i have two adsl lines..."), maybe these specific issues should be treated on the LARTC Guide, or maybe if we had an wiki? Is there a LARTC Wiki? If not, what do you think about creating one? Thanks -- Marco _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl

ipsec for linux 2.4 eventually made easy?!
hi there, I just wanted to share a recent discovery I did on how to setup a secure VPN implementation for linux 2.4.x (I''m using 2.4.20 but it should be working, as far as documentation states, for > 2.4.18) without using FreeS/WAN. The tool (ipsec_tunnel: http://ringstrom.mine.nu/ipsec_tunnel/, by Tobias Ringström) is a kernel module based on ipip and ip_gre. It uses CyptoAPI to
