Correcting Bent Records: Mongrel is not SCGI
Hi, I kept getting a very weird question about Mongrel (http://mongrel.rubyforge.org) and SCGI that I think really needs to be cleared up: ** Mongrel is not SCGI and will never need, use, require, or interact with SCGI (unless someone wants to write the handler for it). ** For some reason people have been under the impression that Mongrel actually uses or interacts with my other project SCGI

RSpec + EdgeRails on Windows
I recently post on my blog about setting up a Rails environment with RSpec in Windows, and someone left a comment saying that it doesn''t work in EdgeRails. I so I played around with it a bit and was able to confirm that none RSpec appears broken on EdgeRails. I''ll post the various error messages I received below. I''m not expecting any sort of patch or something for this

file_column: patched for imagemagick and validation
Hi all, I patched file_column to add imagemagick transformations of uploaded content. I added an options hash, and it takes the :magick and :format keys. :magick is a string of imagemagick command line options for convert (Reference: http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php). Format is an optional extension for the finished image. If Imagemagick recognizes the extension, then it will

mongrel vs. scgi
I''ve liked the scgi runner ever since it came out. I like the way it''scontrolled, the way it''s clusterable, and the fact that it runs onwin32 platforms so easily. Now it''s May 2006, and the scgi runner hasn''t changed since October, and now we have mongrel. I keep seeing hints of clustering in mongrel,as well. I just downloaded the win32 installer for

Mongrel/Apache and static content
I''m looking for an easy way to have mongrel only serve dynamic railscontent, while letting Apache serve non-Rails content. Unfortunately,it seems that you have to segregate the static content in its ownfolder. That was also the case with the SCGI runner. I used thetrick outlined athttp://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.ruby.rails/23347 to managethis. I was curious if a similar

RailsCron 0.1 plugin
I, like many of you, have been searching for a good way to handle running long processes in Rails. So I rolled my own solution. I really want feedback! (I''ve tested this on very simple hello world examples, so don''t use it on anything production yet) . Grab the plugin: http://opensvn.csie.org/rails_cron Here''s the README: OVERVIEW ======== RailsCron is a way to

configuring apache with scgi
i had been trying for weeks to get fcgi to play right with apache. i finally got it working, but it''s far from stable. it was recommended to me that i should try using SCGI and that it is much easier to set up. being new to this stuff though, i''m not sure if there''s a lack of documentation or if there are some things that are just assumed and not known by a noob

Session management changed in EdgeRails?
Hi, I''ve been developing an application in Rails 1.0 and finally made the switch to Edge for has_many :through and polymorphism. I''m currently storing the authenticated user object (User model) in the session. This has worked well up until upgrading to EdgeRails. What I do is set @user = session[:user] in my controllers and then access the various @user associations such as

Article: Fun with STI
http://kylemaxwell.com/articles/2006/02/06/fun-with-single-table-inheritance I wrote an article about how to use rails and single table inheritance to implement multi-page web forms with incremental validation. I''m looking for any feedback, and I hope that the development technique is useful. I just ran through the tutorial myself, and everything is working for me on my

SCGI + Lighttpd + SSL crashes - fine without SSL
[ERR][17968] Handling client: can''t convert nil into String Hi, We decided to go with SCGI + Lighttpd for Rails at our company and had no problems with the initial setup. Everything ran fine and was fast. However, problems occurred when we tried to rebuild Lighty with SSL capabilities. With this build, even with SSL off in the config file the application fails on the first request.

Urgent help needed
Hi, I''m on Apache 2.0.54, Linux Fedora Core 2 with Plesk. I installed a Rails application previously on the box using SCGI and it works fine; even now. I''m trying to get a second app online and it fails. Same config, except for the SCGI runner ports of course. It looks like the error comes from the fact that the mod_rewrite loops. WHY ??? BTW : I have to put this app

form_remote_upload plugin
form_remote_tag does not support the input type=file. This is due to javascript security limitations. I created a plugin that modifies form_remote_tag so that if you pass it the option: :html => {:multipart => true}, it will submit via an iframe, allowing you to upload files. It works nicely with file_column :). Currently, it only works with RJS templates (no :update option), and I only

InstantRails works with WEBrick, fails with SCGI
I have an app that I''ve been developing for some time with RADRails and WEBrick locally. I wanted to take it to Apache and following the following steps: 1) Downloaded and extracted InstantRails. 2) Started and tested cookbook with SCGI. Works great. 3) Copied my app over to rails_apps directory. 4) Added a virtual host to Apache identical to cookbook (just using port 9999 with
