Please Help with single table inheritance relationships
I''ve been searching the web, wikis, and more, and I haven''t turned up
examples of how to have multiple entities in a single-table inheritance
related to anything.
I have an addresses table, but multiple entities can have Addresses:
both Person (which has 2 addresses) and Retailer. I''ve been told that I
need to use single-table inheritance, and this was my attempt:

NilClass passed to partial view
Hi,
I have a simple program that tries to do something really basic.
First, I have a company Model :

class Company < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :billingAddress, :foreign_key=>"id", :class_name=>"Address"
end
Then I have the address Model :

has_one with Single Table Inheritance - NameError : uninitialized constant
I am having a problem with using SIngle Table Inheritance with a has_one
relationship, and I am at a loss of what could be causing it. Below is the
related code and the error message.
class User < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :wishlist
end
class List < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :user
end
class Wishlist < List

trying to figure out the best way to model this. I''ve created an

Validating 2 related models at once not working
Hello,
I have a form that submits data to two related models/tables. One is
Customer the other is Address. Validation for Customer works fine but not
for the Address.
Class Customer < ActiveRecord::Base
has_one :address
validates_presence_of :login, :password, :email
validates_associated :address
end
Class Address < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :customer

No Custom Validation
Hi,
Correct me if I am wrong but there doesn''t seem to be an easy way to add
validation outside the pre-built ones (validates_presence_of,
validates_lenght_of, etc.).
Ideally there should be something like:
Class Person < ActiveRecord::Base
validates :my_method, :on => create, :message => ''was not valid''
def my_method(param)
false unless

New Foxy Fixtures (Rails 2) & STI (Single Table Inheritance)
I''ve got some problems right now using the new model for relationships
in fixtures (by label, not by id) and STI. What I''ve got, is a couple
of models:
Attachment
--> FileDownload
Version
Version has_one file_download with file_download_id on the versions
table
In my fixtures, I have two FileDownloads in my attachments.yml like
so:
hemingway_alpha_zip:

Single-table inheritance and eager loading
I have a people table with four types of people: clients, spouses,
children, and others all setup using single-table inheritance with a
foreign key back to a household record.
A Household has_one client and spouse, and has_many children and
others. I want to use a single "Household.find(@session
[:household_id], :include => [:client, :spouse, :children, :others])"

Data relationships for e-commerce: users, orders, addresses
Hi there
I''m in the process of developing an e-commerce Rails app but am
getting a little stuck on what models I should be working with on the
order/checkout side of things.
The app requires users to be registered and authenticated to checkout.
So I already have a User model and an Order model (which belongs to a
User). The Order model is largely similar to that used in the Agile

one-to-one relationship confusion
Hello,
I posted a similar email, earlier in the week, but I still must not be
getting it.
I have a customer that aggregates two addresses; a shipping address
and a billing address. Addresses can also be referenced by other
objects in a similar way, so I would really like to avoid putting the
keys referencing the customer or other objects in the addresses table.
Addresses are exclusively

confirming that a model instance was correctly created from POST params
I''m wondering whether I''m wasting my time trying to verify that an addition I''ve made to legacy code is in fact setting a new attribute on a model.
Substruct''s (http://dev.subimage.com/projects/substruct) OrderHelper contains this method:
1 def create_order_from_post
2 @use_separate_shipping_address = params[:use_separate_shipping_address]

Single Table Inheritance with self-referential join
Please tell me if this train of thinking makes sense, I need help on
solving this association model problem:
I am doing an app that creates and manages stereoscopic images, one
stereoscopic image is formed by two photos, say photo1 and photo2
The user uploads photo1 and then photo2 and gets a preview if he likes
the preview he/she authorizes it and gets a final stereoscopic image

Do transactions fail with polymorphic has_one relationships?
I have an AR::Base descendant with a complex object graph beneath it,
like so:
ArtisanQuoteInput has_one QuoteInput and then QuoteInput has several
objects attached to it. Note that the relationship between
ArtisanQuoteInput and QuoteInput is polymorphic, so the relationship in
A is written
has_one :quote_input, :as => :program_quote_input
If @artisan_quote_input is an instance of

Has_one and Class Table Inheritance
Hello, is there something wrong with using has_one to implement Class
Table Inheritance ?
Eg.
class Person < ActiveRecord::Base
# attributes : eg. name, string
end
class Contact < Person
# attributes :
has_one :Person
belongs_to :Company
end
Of course for a such simple case I could use Single Table Inheritance
but this is only an example and I don''t like too much the

ActiveRecord Polymorphic Inheritance
I am using RoR ActiveRecord polymorphic inheritance and was wondering
if it''s possible to access the base class'' association methods in the
invocation of either to_xml or to_json without having to depict the
base class data in the serialized string. Here are my classes:

class Asset < ActiveRecord::Base

ActiveRecord in Rails 2.1.0 misbehaving for Aggregate Attr.
I am not sure if this is a bug in ActiveRecord or is this the intended
behavior. If it is then it does not make sense to me.
In a nutshell: If you change an aggregate object attribute created via
composed_of method (see Agile Web Development - Second Edition Chapter
17 page 313 onwards) and then save the model, the change to the model
(composite attribute specifically) will not be saved UNLESS

Crazy @55 Inheritance
I have one table, called "people".
Within this table, there are type "users", "managers".... etc. So, basic
STI.
Now, I want a "user" to have one manager, but a "manager" to have many
"users".
Since I don''t want to use HABTM... how do I set this relationship up seeing
that :has_one, :belongs_to and :has_many don''t

confused about ActiveRecord relationships
I am very confused about where to put the belongs_to and the has_one
(and other relationship identifiers). I have read the RDoc and the
agile book many times about this and I think i still see it backwards.
Let me outline my app so you have an understanding...
I have 2 tables:
Schools { id, school_name, address_id }
and
Addresses { street1, street2, city, state, zip, country }
