Fair que between 255 users
Hello guys I have a subnet with 255 users, which need to share 1 single slow internet connection, so i would like to implement a kind of *fair queuing *on the UPLOAD between them, which means that they all share the connection equally.. The tools that i have available is: A linux box with IPROUTE2,HTB and TC.. I have looked at some examples, and my first idea was to make 255 entries in

ESFQ: request for user input
Hello, I haven''t been keeping up with sending ESFQ [ANNOUNCE] messages to this list, but I''ve still been working on the patch. If you''re curious about recent changes, take a look at the home page, ChangeLog, and README: http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/ http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/current/ChangeLog http://fatooh.org/esfq-2.6/current/README Meanwhile, I''m interested

exact rate
Hello I am using htb (krenel 2.6.14.3 + esfq patch from fatooh.org) to limit the bandwidth. But I want the absolute maximum rate to be for example 5Mbit and not to exceed it. here is the script: $tc qdisc add dev ${NETIF} root handle 1 htb r2q 4 $tc class add dev ${NETIF} parent 1: classid 1:21 htb rate 5Mbit ceil 5Mbit $tc class add dev ${NETIF} parent 1:21 classid 1:101 htb rate 2Mbit ceil

ESFQ not so fair?
Hello! I am using since yesterday ESFQ instead of N HTB queues. It mostly works OK, but when somebody is using one single sesion (for example downloading file via FTP), it gets weird speed. For example it is 20 kilobytes pres second, then drops down to 9, then 20 again, and then slowly to 0 and stops. But when using download accelererator of some kind or bittorrent client which uses many

limit number of connections per ip
Hello! I''ve read a lot of mail archives, but can''t find solutions for my problem. I have router with about 700 users. I''m using HTB with SFQ leaf qdiscs for every user (client ip). So, different IP can have its own rate limit. This scheme ir working fine for a long time. But how can I limit number of connections (sessions) from one host? I see from ip_conntrack

Is ESFQ working?
Hi there, i am trying to shape a network for a college dorms... INTERNET---- ETH0--------Nat Box-------ETH1--------LAN I have set up classes of traffic (HTTP, FTP, MAIL, IM, OTHER) and i have assigned a rate for everyone with a HTB qdisc. The limit based in traffic is working flawlessly. However, under every HTB class i have set up a ESFQ queue discipline with hash value set to

sfq limit
The limit parameter for SFQ qdiscs isn''t listed in the howto. Based on a mail from this list from 4 may 2002 ("SFQ queue lengths - generalization"), I''d guess it limits the number of packets/bytes in in the queue, but wether it does so by number of bytes, packets, or time spent in the queue I don''t know. Perhaps someone in the know could add a line to the

Fair Bandwidth sharing with HTB and EFSQ
I downloaded the HTB and ESFQ packages and installled the patched kernel and tools. Now can someone give me an example how to configure my system so that the 512Kbit are fairly divided for each computer ? Assume that eth0 is the interface on the WAN side and eth1 on the LAN side. Making tcp start transfers slow
Hey list I have almost gotten my shaping setup up and running as planned. The last barrier seems to be tcp overshooting availible bandwidth when its starting a transfer, and thereby bursting the line, so ping rises for a moment. At least this is my best guess at the problem :) There is a possibility that its just plain old traffic being bursty for some reason.. I am using bittorrent to test this,

tc philosophy, will this work?
Correct me if I''m wrong, I just want to help my friend who needs a tc solution with fairness to hosts on a 512K/s DSL line, but few of them should be restricted to 64K/s I thought about htb + esfq (sfq with ip based fairness, not connection) parent class with CEIL=500Kbit (no RULE? see *1) and attached esfq to this parent class, now child class with CEIL=64Kbit and RULE=10.0.0.1

Shaping incoming VoIP traffic fails
Hello, I''m trying to get lossless VoIP traffic over my 3000k/500k ADSL line. Shaping outgoing traffic is no problem: I set total ceil for outgiong device (ppp0) to 450kbit and put VoIP into highest prio class. Even during full upload the voice is clean on the other end. Now I tried to get the same result for incoming data. I attached HTB to eth1 where the incoming voip traffic is

Iptables matching on IFB
Hey folks, I stumbled across the Mastershaper project ( http://www.mastershaper.org/ ) but I have a little problem: I wanted to shape the traffic coming from the router itself aswell as coming from the LAN behind the router, for that task I need IMQ, but with IMQ iptables-(layer7)-matching is not possible. Now I''ve talked with the programmer and he said the following: >The problem is

ESFQ?
Hi again, I was just looking around for ESFQ sources, and I see that the main site is down, and only has kernel 2.6.4 patches. Is ESFQ maintained? If so, where can I find patches for 2.6.10? Packet marking for ingress shapping and NET
Hi, I have typical situation, local LAN with private addresses, translated via NAT to internet. I need to shape ingress traffic (from internet to local LAN) in several HTB queues accorting to destination (private not public) IP. So I need mark packets to divide them to corresponding queue. According to http://www.docum.org/stef.coene/qos/kptd/ I thing I have only one way how to do it, because
