New tools
Hello everybody, I would like to share what I created. I was working on a router with CBQ & IMQ. I created some tools working with the above, but maybe with other setups as well. One is UDP traffic generator, the other is a "speed meter" for CBQ. See http://exef.xko.cz/others/others.htm Use in peace, Tom -- ExEf - the Ultimate Effect Processor - GNU Linux *** http://exef.xko.cz

Possibly a bug: Slow get on localhost
Hi there, I guess I found a bug in many versions of samba: When I do: smbclient //localhost/incoming get filename It results like this: getting file \filename of size 838656 as filename (75.0 kb/s) (average 75.2 kb/s) ... or similar LOW speed. Something similar has been described at lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2002-May/044345.html Well, I tested these at 3 different machines Linux 2.4.21

HTB & tc
Hi, I''m trying to make run a simple shaping *through HTB*. I have compiled a new kernel 2.4.21. First command from http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/manual/userg.htm said: # tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 12 RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument I tryed both standard tc from Debian stable and http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/v2/tc.gz this one... I tryed

Re: unknown qdisc ''htb'' ???
Hello, Could you tell me how did you solve your problem? I have exactly the same problem but with this configuration: - linux 2.4.20 kernel, HTB option checked - iproute2-2.4.7-now-ss010824.tar.gz installed, which is the latest version I found at ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/ip-routing/, except for "try" or "do not use" versions. I guess I do not need patching iproute2 and

unknown qdisc ''htb'' ???
Hello, I''d like to try out HTB for traffic shaping. I have a test machine with Redhat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.10), I''ve downloaded kernel 2.4.17, applied the patch from http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/, recompiled the kernel (checked the option to use HTB in make menuconfig), and rebooted with the new kernel. When I try to add some rules with HTB (f.i. tc qdisc add dev eth0 root

ADSL-Bandwidth-Management-HOWTO
Hi, I''ve read ADSL-Bandwidth-Management-HOWTO http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/ADSL-Bandwidth-Management-HOWTO/implementation.htm l#AEN166 and I''ve a doubt from script: [ ... ] # DNS name resolution (small packets) iptables -t mangle -A MYSHAPER-OUT -p udp -j MARK --set-mark 21 [ ... ] That is a bug ? I think that " DNS name resolution (small packets) " is better

infinite amount of data for HTB burst
Dear all, I''d like to ask for help with HTB configuration (after having read some manual pages, FAQs and forum posts). Short version: is there a way to specify infinite burst for HTB? (Infinite amount of data to use the "ceil" rate.) Long version: I have the following small topology: cable modem (uplink to ISB) | <ethernet>

//Just to not forget eth0 is WAN and eth1 is LAN . The box is NATing my lan. I configured tcng to shape both download and upload and i got connection loss again. Maybe it is my script fault or it is something bad with packets marking . this is how i mark outgoing packets iptables -t mangle -A MYSHAPER-OUT -p tcp -s 192.168.1.23 -j MARK --set-mark $ip and this part of my script which is intented

ABOUT "THE ULTIMATE TRAFFIC CONDITIONER"
Dear friends: I was analizing the HTB script at "The ultimate traffic conditioner", at the Cookbook, at Lartc. I have a very basic question: First, it is defined the root htb qdisc, as expected; then, it is defined the main (parent) htb class, with the total uplink as rate, also as expected; then, they are defined 2 child clases: first of them has also the total uplink as rate (!)

marking passive ftp and shaping
I am trying to mark outbound passive ftp traffic with iptables and shape it to 35KBytes. I am using the following script on the computer that runs the ftp server. It is not working correctly, it seems to limit ALL traffic. Cant file share or anything. Anyone might know what is wrong? #!/bin/bash #shaping passive ftp traffic # mark the outbound passive ftp packets on ports 50000-51000

HTB & Bdw Guarantee
Hello, I have problems setting up HTB. This is my setup : NET 1024/256 ADSL || eth1 Linux Firewall eth0 || LAN 10.a.a.a I want to GUARANTEE for an IP (10.x.y.z) a 800kbit bandwidth for HTTP download. But When 10.x.y.z does no HTTP download, other trafic must get the whole bandwidth, of course. The script I use (see below) is quite the same as presented at (the greeeeat page) :

newbie - shaping a PSTN connection
Hi - I''ve been going through the LARTC how-to and have successfully used the sample scripts (and wondershaper) with my xDSL links. I''m now faced with the challenge of providing 8 users at work an effective remote access connection over a PSTN ppp connection. The critical traffic in this case relates to our stock enquiry application which is running over terminal services.

(yet another) HTB question(s)
Hi, I''ve read the documentation about HTB and I pretty much managed to grasp how it works. In theory. But there still are some questions and I want to check with you to see if I understand things correctly. So here goes: 1) when used on a router for shaping traffic done by clients connected to it, shaping is done on the interface connected to the cable/dsl modem. If I wanted to create

Good pratice with a Linux Gateway / Traffic Shapping
Hi, I am the network administrator of my company, I know quite well Windows networking and a few about Linux and its amazing routing and QOS capabilities. Right now, we have a bustable T1, which mean that the bill increase with out T1 use. I have decided to find a way to shape the traffic so I can stay at a raisonable speed of 256 kb/s (Up/down) on my T1. I have linux gateway with 2 nics behind a

must cut the line down too much for shaping to work
Hi, my situation: One internet connection 256 kbps uplink/downlink, pretty stable speed, a Linux router with three NICs (one to ISP, one to DMZ and one with VLANs enabled to our LAN). Each of three VLANs (1, 10, 11) is a region for me; id 1 gets guaranteed 128 kbps, id 10 and 11 both get guaranteed 64 kbps (both uplink and downlink). Simple configuration. After I read relevant parts of lartc

Re: Standalone Shaping
On a router, there is no need for and IMQ because there is always an egress path. For example: Internet -> eth1 -> iptables -> routing -> ... -> egress qdisc -> eth0 -> LAN LAN -> eth0 -> iptables -> routing -> .... -> egress qdisc -> eth1 -> Internet Local Process / Proxy -> routing -> iptables -> egress qdisc -> eth1/eth0 ->

Shaping incoming traffic?
I would like to differentiate incoming traffic streams to guarantee minimum bandwidth to some services. However, as per the Adv-Routing-HOWTO it appears that only outgoing traffic can be shaped. Is this correct or is there a way of shaping incoming traffic? The problem could possibly be overcome if there is a way of routing traffic through a virtual host. Any tips on how to go about that? --
