There´s already a new version of the acts_as_taggable mixin available and look what it is capable of now: # Gets the top 10 tags for all photos Photo.tags_count :limit => 10 # => { ''beer'' => 68, ''wine'' => 37, ''vodka'' => ''22'', ... } # Gets the tags count that are greater than 30 Photo.tags_count :count =>

Hi folks, Thanks to the community feedback on the 1st version, I''ve come up with a much improved version of the acts_as_taggable mixin. strange behavior of acts_as_taggable
I was testing my models with this new library and I got: >> s.tag "warp" ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: ERROR: inserción o actualización en la tabla «tags_stories» viola la llave foránea «tags_stories_story_id_fkey» DETAIL: La llave (story_id)=(8) no está presente en la tabla «stories». : INSERT INTO tags_stories ("tag_id", "story_id") VALUES

FK constraints overrated?
Hello folks, I use to think that a relational databases without foreign keys constraints enforced strictly by the RDBMS were no good, piece of crap, data junk. However, I''ve also learned the hard way that FKs constraints imposes serious difficulties when moving data around, specially between different DBs, or for loading test data or for upgrading DBs schemas, or for porting DBs

Example using Builder::XmlMarkup and .rxml files?
Greetings, I''m a newby to both "R"s in RoR. I would like to use Builder::XmlMarkup to generate my pages. If there is a working downloadable example somewhere, that would probably be enough. Otherwise, here''s what I want to do: With the following controller: class AccountsController < ApplicationController layout ''accounts'' model :account

Rails/lighttpd: Changes to controller not being seen?
This is a weird one: My app works fine on our local box with webrick. After uploading to TxD server, the app starts behaving weirdly. I make some edits to one of the controllers and my changes don''t seem to be going through. So I go ahead and change the name of the controller file. The page loads without error. I figure maybe I''m in the wrong directory, so I change the

acts_as_taggable -- which one?
There appear to be three acts_as_taggable implementations and I''m looking for a recommendation on which to use. - Gem - DHH plugin - Dema mixin The Gem implementation appears to be obsolescent, from what I can read on the lists and Google search. I like that the DHH plugin uses polymorphic associations because there will be lots of different taggable items in my application; however,

rails under windows and mysql make webrick unstable
hi, I have installed ruby and rails under windows(exactly this one: http://rubyforge.org/frs/download.php/4174/ruby182-15.exe that includes rubygems) the thing is that while trying to install the mysql gem, it seemd to try to build the native extension, so I finally added a compiled version that I found in http://dema.ruby.com.br/ the problem is that webrick behaves quite unstable while

Smoothing Techniques - short stepwise functions with spikes
R Friends, I have data from which I would like to learn a more general (smoothened) trend by applying data smoothing methods. Data points follow a positive stepwise function. | x x | xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx | x x |xxxx xxx xxxx | xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx | |

AR db adapter for a RDF database (ATT: DHH)
Hi people, As I stated in a earlier message, I am using Rails on my masters degree and soon I will have to port my application from a relational database (MySql) to a RDF semantic database called Sesame. At first, I thought that I could get away with most of the porting only by writing a decent database adapter, but then, examining AR closer, I could see that it has some strong dependencies

Success - Rails, FastCGI, and IIS / Windows Server
About 17:00 localtime I managed to get fastcgi, Rails and IIS all happy together. Upon success I ripped off my clothes and ran through the village yelling "The future is now!". A PDP-11 geezer stuck his head out a window and said "The future isn''t what it used to be and keep yer shirt on". Modifications were required to dispatch.fcgi and request.rb. The following

FastCGI issues
I am attempting to get Rails running on Windows with an Apache 2 server. I seem to be having some trouble, and in spite of my best efforts to find a solution, I could not. I believe that I configured Apache correctly. I have included EnableSendfile Off EnableMMAP Off Win32DisableAcceptEx FastCgiConfig -maxClassProcesses 1 -maxProcesses 1 -minProcesses 1 -processSlack 1 \ -initial-env

Stories with many tags, tags with many stories, has_and_belongs_to_many howto?
Hi, I began experimenting with habtm relationships, and so I created a stories table, a tags table, and a stories_tags table referencing the former 2. When I create a "story", I want to add several tags to it. Then, the model should create those tags and link them to the respective stories, and for the tags that already exists, just link them to the story. I tried something like
