ruby on rails and Micro$oft environment support - IIS & ms sql
Hi everybody
At work we''ve finally convinced the chief to develop some small project
using open source technology.
Unfortunately we are deeply involved with Micro$oft technology.
That means, windows 2003 server, IIS, MS SQL 2005 and asp.
I was thinking about recommending ruby on rails instead of asp, but I''d like
to know how well it goes with IIS and MS SQL, because for the

Anyone have Ruby for IIS installer?
Erwin:
We found it''s not worth the time to do this. It won''t work reliably.
You''re in for a world of hurt. We''ve given up on the idea after several
months of trying (and some great feedback from this list). There are
some on this list who claim to have gotten it to work, but that might
just be luck.
We''re now using Apache on a higher port, and using

RequireResourceHelper for JS and CSS
The following was posted on my blog at http://blog.inquirylabs.com.
A friend of mine recently expressed interest in this code snippet, so
I thought I''d send it out to anyone else who''s interested. This
module makes it a lot easier to ''require'' javascript and cascading
stylesheet dependencies inside your views or controllers. By

acts_as_taggable v4 - Tag Counting Anyone?
There´s already a new version of the acts_as_taggable mixin available
and look what it is capable of now:
# Gets the top 10 tags for all photos
Photo.tags_count :limit => 10 # => { ''beer'' => 68, ''wine'' => 37, ''vodka''
=> ''22'', ... }
# Gets the tags count that are greater than 30

AR db adapter for a RDF database (ATT: DHH)
Hi people,
As I stated in a earlier message, I am using Rails on my masters degree
and soon I will have to port my application from a relational database
(MySql) to a RDF semantic database called Sesame.
At first, I thought that I could get away with most of the porting only
by writing a decent database adapter, but then, examining AR closer, I
could see that it has some strong dependencies

Success - Rails, FastCGI, and IIS / Windows Server
About 17:00 localtime I managed to get fastcgi,
Rails and IIS all happy together.
Upon success I ripped off my clothes and ran through
the village yelling "The future is now!". A PDP-11
geezer stuck his head out a window and said "The future
isn''t what it used to be and keep yer shirt on".
Modifications were required to dispatch.fcgi and request.rb.

really silly question (my first project and such)
Hi all
My question has to do with a statement made in the database.yml file as
generated by RadRails-
"
# There is no gem for Windows. Install mysql.so from RubyForApache.
"
Is webrick based on the apache web server? I don''t understand this
particular aspect yet. I apologize if radrails questions aren''t supposed to

FK constraints overrated?
Hello folks,
I use to think that a relational databases without foreign keys
constraints enforced strictly by the RDBMS were no good, piece of crap,
data junk.
However, I''ve also learned the hard way that FKs constraints imposes
serious difficulties when moving data around, specially between
different DBs, or for loading test data or for upgrading DBs schemas, or
for porting DBs

RESOLVED: Re: NameError (uninitialized constant Mysql)
Hi all

I had asked the group about the error: NameError (uninitialized constant Mysql) appearing on the localhost since last few days.

I was using Webrick for testing. I installed RubyForApache module, which installed mysql.so along with that. It wasnt successful even after following documentation/tutorials word-by-word.

Anyway, the bottom line is : I uninstalled RubyForApache and

to be down:

Does anyone know anywhere else where this information can be found?

acts_as_taggable v2 - Tagging on Steroids
Hi folks,
Thanks to the community feedback on the 1st version, I''ve come up with a
much improved version of the acts_as_taggable mixin.
There´s some piece of the action here:

Rails talking to MySql (cygwin on Windows XP)
Hello fellow RoR users,
I am a newbie and I thought RoR is so easy to set up and that I would
be saving so much time -- but I am still waiting to save time because I
simply couldn''t get Ruby/Rails to talk to MySQL (5.0.18) at all.
Here are the steps that I have examined:
1) I look at dabatbase.yml and put in the right information to talk to
the database I have set up (the

R Matrix package solve
hello.
I have a query about the Matrix package for R. I wrote some code a while
ago using the Matrix package version 1.6.2 with an early version of R, to
do some linear least squares for regression:
