Samba pdc with ldap & samba3-3.0.25c-34 on CentOS 5
Hi all,
I had been running a Samba pdc using the standard tdbsam backend on
CentOS 4.5 supporting 20+ WinXPsp2 workstations and a Win2k3 Terminal
Server. This set up was running fine for arroung 18 months maybe more.
The above system was built on ageing hardware that used to be a Win 2k
server that died from OS corruption.
Due to the expanding client needs there was good reason to replace

How to calculate the derivative of matrix w.r.t another matrix?
Dear All
I have a problem of calculating the derivative of dxm matrix A with respect
to another dxm matrix B,
where A= [a1 a2 ... am] and B =[b1 b2 ... bm] with
ai and bj are vectors.
Actually the matrix A itself is the first order derivative
of a scalar J with respect to B, i.e., A = dJ/dB,
where a1 = dJ/db1, a2 = dJ/db1, and so on.
Now dA/dB is the second order derivative
dA/dB =

VSS on samba
We have recently moved our VSS database from windows 2k to samba,
initially all looked fine but have come accross a problem.
Quite often VSS complains saying it can't write to "names - acess denied".
The file its refering to is names.dat in data/ (for those that know VSS)
I believe this to be some sort of locking issue. Sometimes getting all
other clients to quite VSS solves the

Hungarian map
Hi,
Can anybody help me with a Hungarian map available in R with lakes,
more rivers / cities and boundaries of the counties.
If I understood well I could use .shp files (with Maptools).
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any (free) shape file of
Hungary.
I also download the WDB-files. Unfortunately I can not see the link
beetween these text files and R.
Thank you
Istvan

oplock error - broken client? need workaround
Hi-
I've used the same smb.conf for many such file servers: one big share
the office can write to, share level, no passwords. But I've never
had the following error, and can't find the same combo of errors on
the web either. They are MS works 2000 databases. If a client opens
one, then closes it, no other client can access the file (it will hang
indefinitely) until the original

Remote protocol abstracted
I have been working in the abstraction of the remote protocol to separate
it from the server and the connection.
The purpose of this is I need to use the Xapian remote protocol in a server
we are working on (named Xapiand:
https://github.com/Kronuz/Xapiand) which is similar to some extent to the
`xapian-tcpsrv` in that it also serves
databases remotely through TCP, using the binary protocol. What

Rewriting caller ID from database?
Hi
Most of our customers have generic names like "Hospital", so I need to
rewrite their caller ID name by looking up the number in a database on the
Asterisk server, and rewriting the name such as "Reading Hospital" so that
we know who's calling.
Any idea if this can be done with Asterisk, and how to do it?
Thank you.

[Fwd: Re: Help a newbie pick a gui tool kit]
Hey Guys,
This just came over the rubytalk list. Does anybody have any Debian
experience?
BTW, one thing this project *really* could use is people to package
wxruby for <your distro here>. You don''t need SWIG/C++ experience for
it, and a little work could help a lot of people.

I recently reformatted my hard disk on my MacBook Pro using a clean
install of Leopard (had Leopard before too but not from a clean
install). I had to reinstall R, and therefore installed the new
version 2.7.1 for Mac. In preparing some graphs, I noticed
