Encoding Problem / mod_rails / passenger / Postgresql 8.3
Hi,
when I use mod_rails/passenger with apache2 on linux instead of
webbrick for our application, then it stops working with certain
browsers like the ie, and konqueror but still works with firefox.
I get the following error message:
ActionView::TemplateError (PGError: ERROR: invalid byte sequence for
encoding "UTF8": 0xad

Checking the existance of a NOT NULL constraint from Active Record
Hi,
I'd like to check the existance of a NOT NULL constraint for a given
attribute using ActiveRecord. Is this possible or do I have to
painstakingly query the information_schema myself? I need this for
some reflection in a custom association.
Thanks,

Changing the current connection for Active Record
Hi Everyone,
I''ve just updated my Rails install to 1.0 and have noticed that the
ActiveRecord connection handling is somewhat different. I''ll explain...
I''ve declared a block handler that will change the connection for
ActiveRecord::Base prior to yielding to the block, then restore the
original connection (see code snippet below). I''m doing this in order

Active Record problem
Hi all
I am new to Rails, and obviously I''m missing something, I''ll get straight to the question:
A User has many operations (granted to her), each Operation is associated with an OperationType. Each Operation may be associated with more then one User.
So the model goes like this:
class User < ActiveRecord::Base
has_and_belongs_to_many :operations

meaning on active record error message
Hi everyone,
I received an error message as below:
Couldn''t find Project with ID in (''--- :all'',''--- \n:order: number ASC'')
and it point to a statement in my controller:
@projects_by_user = @an_user.projects.find(:all, :order=>"number ASC")
I checked the log file, it seems the sql statement is executed with returned result. Would

active record outside of rails
I really like how Active Record logs the SQL that is executed inside of
rails. Is there a way to get the SQL output when using Active Record
outside of rails?
Thanks,
phil

active record mysql query help
I''m trying to do a search function on a mysql text column. However i''m
running into a problem that i dont know how to get around.
I want to be able to find records that match the text column in some way. I
know about doing wildcard searches with % characters but i need to do this
in a backwards kind of way. I want to find records that will match some
part (or all) of the

SEcontext setting failure on an external harddisk
I tried moving a PosgreSQL database to an external harddisk due to lack of space on the main harddisks. Not the ideal solution of course but it should work. However, on CentOS 7 the external harddisk is mounted under /run/media and the user. I copied the postgresql database directory and made sure it is owned recursively by postgres, changed the necessary settings in both the systemd unit and the

RE: Form.serialize and Ajax.Request ->fileserialization and encoding
I''ve not looked into how it''s done but adding an attachment in Gmail (UK version) uploads the file without refreshing the window, and http://www.yousendit.com <http://www.yousendit.com/> appears to send a file via some sort of RPC or AJAX. Maybe this could be another starting point for you.

Multilanguage design
Hello. I have an initiative of multilanguage wiki upgrade. Current version
has no multilanguage user interface which can not be translated. As of
current moment we have many people who use wiki with different languages
but navigation lead them into English sections only. Can we start new
deployment (project) which will be true multilangual. Then move all actual
content from current wiki.

RE: Form.serialize and Ajax.Request->fileserialization and encoding
I''d bet money that they use a hidden iframe. Gmail already uses that to
avoid breaking the back button, from what I''ve read. It''s impossible to
send multipart form data through XMLHttpRequest, or so everything I read
says and my own personal attempts confirm. There is an IE ActiveX
plugin that will let you send files in a similar fashion, but it''s IE
only. I

(slightly OT) Reporting tools (Jasper, DataVision, etc.)
We''re evaluating reporting tools right now, both open source and closed.
I saw that a bunch of people on this list have considered Jasper/iReport
-- is this coincidence, or is this the best open source report writer
right now? The proprietary tool we''re comparing them to is Crystal
Reports. Reports will need to be editable by end users, and they''re

missing :encoding for mysql 4.1...
Because of missing :encoding parameter for mysql 4.1 I have to execute
the following command before any fetching queries:
ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute("SET CHARACTER SET utf8")
and then I can use
@rows = MyModel.find(:all)
Without first query table returns ugly characters. It solved my
problem but it looks ugly. Definitely for MySQL 4.1. Rails needs

Active Record: Prepared Statements?
Hello all,
my first project is on it''s way, and I am loving it!
But, and that''s a big BUT:
Active Record does not use prepared statements! How is that? Everybody is
bragging about performance and the most obvious tuning measure is missing.
Ok, I don''t know, if MySQL can even do them as I am using Postgres, but
still.
I started looking at the code and it is not
