Loading data with fixtures
Can anyone point me to an easy way to load fixture data into the development (not test) database? - Tim __________________________________ Celebrate Yahoo!''s 10th Birthday! Yahoo! Netrospective: 100 Moments of the Web http://birthday.yahoo.com/netrospective/

Creating performance test fixtures from development db? How?
Hi all! I''m looking into the testing chapter of Agile Web Development With Rails (2nd ed.). I want to performance test my app, but I''m too lazy to write fixtures for performance test. I''d rather use the data from my development db (because the data is so close to the production data). How do I get the data into the test db without writing fixtures? Could you please

TDD and migrations?
TDD, SVN and migrations seem to be a natural combination for model development: create a test, add the column with a migration, write the code, and check it all in when you''re done. The trouble is that this ends up creating one migration per field. I guess it''s not horrible in and of itself, but it does have a code smell to it. Has anyone come up with a different way of doing

How to stop Rspec loading my Cucumber fixtures
I have a bunch of fixtures designed to populate the database for my Cucumber integration tests. But at this stage I want my database to be empty when using Rspec. So, I moved the fixtures from `/spec/fixtures` to `features/support/fixtures`, and updated `features/support/env.rb` to read: Fixtures.reset_cache fixtures_folder = File.join(RAILS_ROOT, ''features'',

Comments wanted about spec''ing out a couple controller methods
(oops, accidentally sent this to the rspec-devel list, sorry about that) Could someone help me spec out these Rails controller methods? I don''t know where to get started, especially with the transaction stuff. Or, if anyone else could suggest ways I could improve the code, that would be great as well. Puzzle has_one Media. Both are AR model objects. class PuzzlesController <

Design flaw with Fixtures?
I''ve been trying to add unit testing for collection of models with complex relationships -- and failing miserably. Because of the complexity of the relationships, I''m using a database which validates foreign key constraints (PostgreSQL 8). I''m finding it nearly impossible to generate tests that are independent of each other. The basic problem is the DELETE then

load fixtures
I''m finally getting beyond using basic test fixtures, and a few questions have popped up. Has anyone found ways to do these? 1. Use a test fixture that is named differently from its table name? We''d like to have more than one possible fixture per table. (Or perhaps use test fixtures named similarly but in different directories.) 2. Load a test fixture for one test method only

activerecord rake test_mysql
Hi (I''m resubmitting this because First question: This is the rails dev list, correct? I''d like to submit a patch and am following the steps on this page: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ Here''s what I did (using mysql 5.0.15-nt): created 2 databases: activerecord_unittest activerecord_unittest2 created 1 user: rails (giving all priveleges to both databases) ran

db:fixtures:load order
I was trying to deal with foreign key issues related to order of fixture loading when I came across this: http://techpolesen.blogspot.com/2007/04/rails-fixture-tips.html This got me looking deeper into rails and I noticed that db:fixtures:load calls Fixtures.create_fixtures once for each fixture file. However, Fixtures.create_fixtures is capable of taking multiple files and also handle the

Manually loading fixture data
Hi all, I''ve got some tables with fixed amounts of data in them (a "states" table, for example). For tables like this I can easily put *all* of the data in the fixture. For general futzing purposes, and for those times I want to reload a database from scratch outside of testing (for whatever reason), what''s the best approach? I thought perhaps ActiveRecord::Base had

SQLite in-memory
I left ":memory:" in database.yml for testing and the most simple tests in the Agile book do not work (see trace below for test_truth). Since that''s what comes with the distributed database.yml I suppose it''s me doing something wrong. Did someone get SQLite ":memory:" working? How does it grab the schema? -- fxn % rake test_units (in

simple formmail question
I have a few forms that I''d like users to fill out. The results of the form will be sent to a few addresses. What''s the least painless way to do this and keep everything DRY? There''s no database involved. Ideally, I''d like to email the form questions with the answers inline. Seems like using ActionMailer and separate email views would be overkill in this

Mosquito Fixtures Won''t Load
I can''t get fixtures to load correctly in a Mosquito test. The first fixture loads in the unit test, but the rest don''t load at all. File structure: tracker/ tracker.rb test/ test_tracker.rb fixtures/ tracker_measurements.yml tracker_projects.yml Relevant test code: require ''rubygems''

NameError: uninitialized constant Addres
I created some scaffolding for an Address model and an Addresses controller. When running the functional tests for the addresses controller, I get this exception: "NameError: uninitialized constant Addres" The exception seems to start from this function: def list @address_pages, @addresses = paginate :address, :per_page => 10 end I''m guessing pluralization bug?

Converting mysql to postgres
Hi, Anyone got any cool tricks for converting a Rails site (in this case, a typo installation) from a mysql database to a postgresql database? I''ve got it almost working -- I''m doing a SQL dump from mysql and loading it into postgres. However, mysql does booleans as a tinyint with 0 = false and 1 = true. When I try to import that into a postgres database that expects booleans

accessing models from migrations
Ok, so now Users need to be associated with Organizations. I''ve created a migration and added a ''organization_id'' column to the users table. I want the default organization_id to be the first Organization. So I have :default => Organization.find(:first). But it''s complaining about not being able to find the constant ''Organization''. Any

validates_acceptance_of + functional testing
I had to add a check box indicating that a user accepted certain terms to a page. So, I put in a ''validates_acceptance_of :terms'' line into the appropriate model and added a checkbox to my view. Everything works as expected in my web browser. However, my functional tests still pass and I didn''t add or change anything to them. I was expecting to have to add another

rake test_units not loading any fixtures
Hello All, If I run my unit tests individually using Ruby, they all work correctly. However, if I try to run them using "rake test_units", I get a bunch of error messages. The error messages appear to be caused by rake not loading any of the fixtures into the test database. I am using PostgreSQL on Windows. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks, Bruce. -- Posted via

images from database + caching
Is the information in http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/HowtoUploadFiles on caching images still the best way on how to cache images that are served from the database? I haven''t added time information to my image table yet, and the images are sent after every single page view (even if it''s been downloaded already). Joe
