Samba-OpenLDAP and AD question..
Hi all We have slowly been migrating our NT4 domain to Samba+OpenLDAP. Today I was told that we were going to to create an AD 'resource' domain, put all of the workstations in it and create a trust relationship between the two domains. In other words the users would be in the Samba+OpenLDAP domain and the workstations in the AD 'resource' domain. If it matters we have about

A round of applause!
Hello All, Just a short note to add my vote for a HUGE round of applause to the CentOS team for their untiring efforts in getting releases out the door. I've just upgraded several servers to 5.6 and it all "just works". None of the team's work is easy to accomplish, especially when less-than-useful complaints keep popping up from thoughtless users who don't appreciate

EMACS/ESS problems
Hello all, since we're on the topic of R-editors. I am using emacs/ess on a unix workstation (to interact with R and have been having a little problem. I usually write the R commands I need to run in a separate buffer then copy and paste them into the *R* buffer for evaluation. The problem is, if any command is spread over multiple lines emacs/R hangs when I paste it in the R buffer for

"yum update" did not update kernel on one box
This morning, I did "yum update" on my wife's box. It did not update the kernel. I ran the command again, and there is a response that no updates are available. Her box is a Compaq Evo D300v Celeron. During the past couple of days, when I did "yum update", on my daughters box and mine (Dell Dimensions), the kernel was updated and in the GRUB menus now, there are two (2)

Wiki updates needed for rpmrepo.org when it's up & running
When rpmrepo.org is up and running properly, there are 2 or 3 Wiki pages that need to be updated. I wiped the HD on my daughter's box and am trying to install multimedia on it again. The change from RPMForge to rpmrepo.org requires some minor updates to several Wiki pages. http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/MultimediaOnCentOS http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge

model-based clustering
Hello, I was wondering whether a Poisson mixture modeler/cluster analysis package is available for R. I scanned CRAN packages and couldn't find anything but I thought I'd ask. If not could anyone recommend a non-R open source package. I have found 'snob' but this program seems a bit hard to use in an automated, non interactive fashion. regards, Murad -- Murad Nayal M.D. Ph.D.

[Possible spam] New project - any volunteers?
Greetings! (and apologies upfront for any duplication as a result of my cross-posting) It''s been five weeks now since I began working with RoR. My experience has been incredibly positive. So much so that I''m emboldened to undertake a project I''d previously concluded I no longer had the technical chops to even _start_. I''ve included a brief description of

KStars on CentOS 4.4?
Is there an RPM for this? I think it's in the kdeedu package on the FC6 DVD. My wife is an amateur astronomer and she uses this excellent program. If upstream isn't including it, can I get it and not break my CentOS 4.4 system? (Also, I'd like to migrate her and my daughter to CentOS). TIA, Lanny

Extracting sentences with combinations of target words/terms from cancer patient text medical records
Hi Bert, Thanks for your reply. It appears that I didn't replace the variable name "sampletxt" with the argument "x" in my function. I've corrected that and now my code seems to be working fine. Automount configuration problem
I have a simple automount configuration problem. I've done two similar, clean, Custom installations of CentOS 5.0, on two similar, but not identical boxes. On my box, automount is working perfectly. On my daughter's box, it's not working. If I put the FC6 DVD into the drive in my box, I can see the contents of the DVD, without any problem. If I cat /etc/mtab in my box, I see this line:

Thank you: Wiki data for adding 3rd party repository, ProtectBase and Priorities
This is a public thank you, to whoever wrote the Wiki's for adding 3rd party repositories, ProtectBase and Priorities. Clear, excellent, step by step instructions. I did this late last night and I missed the thing that Priorities is the recommended plugin, so I will change to that, from ProtectBase. :-) Lanny

typo on a Wiki page
I don't know the correct way to get this into the system, so I'm posting here. On this page: http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities a line begins: Some packages specify obsoletes in their metadata. This property of a packages that should be "This property of a package" not packages, singular. An incredibly minor error, on an extremely helpful Wiki page. Lanny

SELinux question - to fix bug in Webmin
I found a bug in Webmin when using Webmin with SELinux in Permissive Mode. The author of Webmin, asked me, in their bug tracker on SourceForge: > Ok, thanks ... I see the problem. Extracting sentences with combinations of target words/terms from cancer patient text medical records
Have you looked at the CRAN Natural Language Processing Task View? If not, why not? If so, why were the resources described there inadequate? Extracting sentences with combinations of target words/terms from cancer patient text medical records
Hello All, I need some help figuring out how to extract combinations of target words/terms from cancer patient text medical records. I've provided some sample data and code below to illustrate what I'm trying to do. At the moment, I'm trying to extract sentences that contain the word "breast" plus either "metastatic" or "stage IV". It's been some

DVD reader: Hardware problem or OS glitch?
Hello: The box is dual boot (Win XP & CentOS 5). A Dell Dimension 4300 Celeron. There was an intermittent problem with this last year and last Thanksgiving, I wiped the HD and installed Win XP and CentOS 5 clean. My daughter asked me to install KStars which is in the kdeedu RPM on the Fedora Core 6 Install DVD. I did that, without any problems, on my box and on my wife's box. On the
