Does Ruby 1.9 support Unicode normalization yet?
In the process of upgrading from 1.8 to 1.9 we are getting a lot of warnings about "Ruby 1.9 doesn''t support Unicode normalization yet". However the commit that added those lines is from 2008 and just mentions "Ruby 1.9 compat: no Unicode normalization support yet" without any references. Does anyone know whether this is still true for ruby 1.9 and for which minor

Rails DB defaults to utf8 for mysql -- but unicode for postgresql
Hi, Creating a new Rails application with -d postgresql sets the encoding in the database.yml to unicode Creating a new Rails with -d mysql sets the encoding to utf8 Any ideas why this difference? I''ve been having problems with encoding due to localization, accents, json and what no. I thought I was using utf8 and not unicode. Would this have any impact? If this would be an issue?

mongrel_rails service on windows incompatible with recent ruby builds?
i was suffering from a massive memory leak in my application. after searching and testing for quite a while i finally found that it wasn''t my app that had a leak but the win32ole support that was used by the ADO driver in sqlserver adapter. the solution to fix the leak was to install ruby 1.8.5p52 or 1.8.6p36 but sadly as soon i install one of the fixed releases mongrel won''t

Win32-ole start
Hi all, Since I didn''t get any takers on the win32-ole rewrite I thought I''d take a stab at starting it. Here''s what I''ve got so far (along with some extra constants in Windows::COM only in CVS), but the call to CoCreateInstance() isn''t working. I''m not sure if I''m dealing with the IDispatch interface properly: # win32/ole.rb require

Write greek text to Windows Unicode file
Hi, everybody! I am an experienced senior programmer, but absolutely newbie in R, so excuse me if my question is too silly. I need for my work to evaluete some greek text statistically. The text is in a Windows Unicode file, so I read it in via readLines(...,encoding="UCS-2LE") and it works perfectly! But finally the program has to write out the results

This is supposed to predict a time series?!
Hello, I just ran the predict.StructTS function using the AirPassengers data and got a ridiculous result. Here's what I ended up with: http://24.210.155.111/PredictWhat!.pdf Who wrote this? Am I seriously supposed to think this function would accurately predict a time series? -AnalogKid

Can I integrate Ruby on Rails with Microsoft COM (Quickbooks specifically)
Please help if anybody knows the answer! I''m just starting to learn Ruby on Rails. I''m working my way through the Agile Web Development with Rails book. I have been offered a project that I''d like to do with Rails for a not-for-profit organization. However, the person who I would be doing it for would like the application to integrate with their Quickbooks system

Writing escaped unicode
I'd like to write unicode strings using the "\u" escape syntax. According to the documentation, print.default or encodeString will escape unicode using the \u convention. In practice, I can't make it work. > b="Unicode character: \ufffd" > print.default(b) [1] "Unicode character: ?" > encodeString(b) [1] "Unicode character: ?" I want to

Greetings all. I have some controller code that uses win32ole (only available on windows). This code is now solid, and I''d now like to resume development on (any) other OS(grin). Native characterset is wrong for unicode builds for Windows
When I send some outlandish characters through enc2native (or format) in R 3.1.2 on Ubuntu trusty it works quite well: > "?????" [1] "?????" > enc2native("?????") [1] "?????" > Encoding(enc2native("?????")) [1] "UTF-8" In Windows the result is different: > "?????" [1] "?????" >

I think so (especially if you build from source), but I''m not 100% sure. I''ll forward this to the wxRuby user''s ML -- Kevin Smith probably knows. need help with plotmath and/or plotting unicode characters
R 4.2.3 OS X Colleagues This should be easy -- but not for me. I want to plot text similar to this: N ? XX: YY where XX can be either 1 or 50 and YY is an integer I envision that there would be two solutions: UNICODE: If I can generate "?" via unicode, the problem is solved: mtext(side=3, paste0("N ", UNICODE, " ", XX, ": ", YY)) PLOTMATH:
