nonstandard postgresql sequence names
I''m working with a legacy postgresql database where the names of tables, columns, etc., do not usually follow Rails conventions. I''ve been able to work around it for the most part, but I ran into this: I have the following test: require File.dirname(__FILE__) + ''/../test_helper'' class SponsorTest < Test::Unit::TestCase self.use_transactional_fixtures =

Plugin w/ Migrations and/or Fixtures?
I''m working on a plugin which needs to add both schema and data to the app database, and I''m trying to figure out the best way to do it. I''d like to use a db migration to modify the schema and load the data from a YAML fixture, but Rails doesn''t seem to support migrations for plugins. To do so, the schema_info table would need to change to include a

ajax in rails is a security violation
Does anybody have any issues with the AJAX code inside rails? Whenever i use any sites i have built, or even external sites (such as basecamphq) my internal security device blocks access to the Ajax piece with a 400 Bad Request ( i scoured the net for other ajax examples and no isses anywhere else). I think there is something in the AJAX code of rails that is not implemented correctly. Has

Hello, maybe someone on this list can help me. I am trying to implement a sort of long database search. In order inform the user about what''s happening, status messages should be displayed to the user while the request is working. e.g. - starting search process - currently searching through database A - found 10 results - currently searching through database B - found 25 results -

Change to set_fixture_class
So, I sat down to use set_fixture_class, and it bombed on the first thing I tried: set_fixture_class :content_drafts => "Article::Draft" I made a quick patch, and I''d appreciate a quick run through your tests to make sure it doesn''t disturb anything: http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/4095 As I was typing this, I realized that the string gives us no benefits. DB trigger vs before_create
Hello everyone, I''m having trouble figuring out which approach is better. I have the following tables: products, orders and line_items. Every time an Order is placed, the quantity field in the products table has to be updated for each LineItem in the Order. One option is to use DB triggers which is not as portable as using before_create in the Order model. But with before_create I cannot

STI, subclasses and callbacks
I have a STI class tree. I want to set some default values (calculated values so I can''t set it in the database as defaults) on every created instance regardless of what subclass is actually instantiated. So I figured adding a after_create callback in the top class in the hierarchy should do the trick. It seems it doesn''t get called :( Code: class SuperClass <

Are cache sweepers used?
After drawing many virtual blank stares in the IRC channel and finding zero results on the wiki for ''sweeper'' I''m left to wonder whether these are actually officially supported, or are on their way toward being deprecated. Is there a better way of expiring caches on model saves and deletions? Sincerely, Tom Lieber tom@alltom.com http://AllTom.com/
