RAID hard drive serial numbers?
smartctl, hdparm, and sdparm all are valuable tools to obtain hard drive
info. But, they don't seem to work, at least, on obtaining hard drive info
from drives on a Dell PERC controller. Instead, I'm given basic PERC
controller info, not drive info.
Is there a tool to let me get the hard drive make/model/serial numbers from a
hardware RAID setup?
Thanks.

10+ TB RAID experiences?
I'm looking for RAID options for at least 10 TB to attach to a Dell
PowerEdge 2950 running RHEL 5 64-bit Server.
The system will act as a single sign-on server for XP and Linux, thus
storing user's data from mounted home directories exported from the server
to various workstations. It may also house a database. I'll need a
storage solution starting at least 10 TB.

Single sign-on help requested
I have a RHEL5 Server and some dual-boot XP/CentOS 5 systems (Linux
systems all 64-bit). All Linux is out-of-box, with all packages, minus
international languages, installed. No patching has been done.
On the server, I selected system-config-authentication and enabled

How are alternate superblocks repaired?
Hi,
Using dumpe2fs I have been able to determine that all of my alternate ext3 superblocks are corrupted (not clean), and only the primary superblock is valid, i.e. mount works and the ordered journal is applied. When the primary superblock gets flakey, i.e. the ext_attr Filesystem feature goes missing - not sure why this occurs. At this point, the mount does not apply the journal using the

botched RAID, now e2fsck or what?
Hi all,
Somehow I managed to mess with a RAID array containing an ext3 partition.
Parenthesis, if it matters: I disconnected physically a drive while
the array was online. Next thing, I lost the right order of the drives
in the array. While trying to re-create it, I overwrote the raid
superblocks. Luckily, the array was RAID5 degraded, so whenever I
re-created it, it didn't go into sync;

[LLVMdev] Generating superblocks (SEME regions w/o loops and calls) in LLVM
Hi all,
While developing compile-time instrumentation for ThreadSanitizer
(http://code.google.com/p/data-race-test) I need to generate SEME
regions without loop and call instructions
(I'll call them superblocks hereafter, although some researchers do
allow loops in their definition of superblocks).
This is necessary to get the largest piece of IR in which the memory
operations can be

EXT3 Superblock Recovery
hello.
had a bad day yesterday: accidentally, the first 0.5% to 1% of my ext3 partition got overwritten, can't gauge it more exactly. Geography of the partition is:
size ~100 GB.
block size should be 4096.
=> deleted are averages to 500mb - 1gb still.
I don't think it is relevant, but the device itself is /dev/loop0, because there is a cryptoloop layer between the device and the

how to get the source for installed RPM (CUPS)
I would like to change a few things in CUPS, but I would prefer to use the source
for the version of CUPS that I already have installed using yum. Mostly because I'm
quite happy with the way it works except a few details.
Is there a way to get the source using yum or should I go to
http://www.cups.org/software.php and get it from there ?
The version I installed with yum is 1.1.22 and on

webserver setup
Hi,
I have setup a webserver on CentOS 4.5 with NameVirtualHost.
Two VirtualHost should be reachable by port 80 from outside, while the
third (default) should be only reachable by https from outside but by
http from inside.
Since all share the same IP firewalling seems to be out of question. So
is there a way to restrict that in Apache config?

How to mount a remote file system to another linux box
Hi,
I have applied traffic shaping on firewall running CentOS 4.5.
eth1 is the device where I have done traffic shaping. I am now running some
monitoring tools such as polltc and tc-graph.pl. They generate graphs. These
graphs are updated every 10 seconds. They have been saved on the firewall it
self. To view thsese graphs, I have to enable apache on firewall it self.
But I do not need to run

RPM package wish list
hello,
Does our beloved Centos project have a page where one can request that an RPM package be built, especially for C5? How about alerts when those requests have been satisfied?
I know about 3rd party repos like rpmforge, epel, and kbextras. I can search those in YUM.
Centos seems to have specialized as a server OS in the past, but my experience is that it is an up and coming

where is ProxyHTMLURLMap for C5 ?
Hello,
I'm setting up a reverse proxy in Apache (httpd-2.2.3-11.el5_1.centos.3)
I have some pages being served which contain hard-coded names of machines
behind the proxy, which obviously do not resolve on the client side.
I found an Apache config item called ProxyHTMLURLMap* which supposedly
will allow me to re-write these hostnames, but can't seem to find the
apache module to install
