QOS Wishes
Hello all, It would be a great feature if QOS could be implemented in Tinc. It's not to do any sort of comparison, but with OpenVPN, the traffic can be shapped. In the way that tinc works as mesh VPN, the great feature would be to fix a shapping value on each nodes, known and respected by each others. (like MPLS does) As an exemple, you've got 3 nodes A,B and C, you want Tinc flows on A

iptables mark + openvpn will the mark survive ?
Greetings, I want to setup bandwidth restrictions for a few clients that use openvpn to connect to my server. I''m using iptables to mark the packets in the mangle table (PRE/POSTROUTING) on eth0 before they get sent via the tunnel. Will the mark survive even if the packets then get routed via an openvpn tunnel (tunX) out the box or does openvpn change it removing the mark ? damnit,

FW: QoS extension to Net-SNMP
Hi. I did send this to `jaazz@post.cz'', but I suspect the list is a more appropriate/useful place for it. It''s a question about Michal Charvat''s QoS extension to Net-SNMP. When I look at the MIB entries for the QoS handles, I get something like this - enterprises.qos.qosObjectTable.qosObject.qosHandle.0.0 = Gauge32: 0

Future of QoS in Linux
Hi I''m on my last year and I''m writing my final project about QoS support in Linux 2.4 kernels and, in general, about QoS in Linux OS. My professor asked me about future of QoS in Linux. And I asking you :) What are the difference between QoS subsystem in 2.4 and 2.6 kernels? What are the future plans for evolution of QoS support in Linux. -- Pozdrawiam Marcin

QoS success with FC3 native 2.6 ipsec
I just wanted to drop a success notice to the list. We always hear the failures, and rarely the successes! ;-) After switching from FC1 and freeS/WAN ipsec to the new native linux 2.6 ipsec (ie: setkey-based) my QoS code suddenly started working properly! Previously, with FC1 and freeS/WAN, I found it impossible and rather buggy (kernel panics!) to get QoS to make any difference at all. My

QoS for VoIP
As you are probably aware, this is a ever green topic. I have personally tried doing it, testing it and verifying it and I am myself finding this problem challenging and frustrating. Most of the scripts will recommend some form of rate limiting ( or policing ) on the download. But the challenge is how to determine the correct value for the policing ? Lot of the recommendation says use x %

QoS in Linux
Hello All, I am interested in QoS provided by Linux, when I looked into IP header I came accross ToS field, also while going more into detail about QoS I found that the QoS based on ToS is serviced thru DiffServ which in turn gives more priority to packets with higher value is ToS field, but I am not able to understand when we finally call dev->hard_start_xmit routine of underlying device

Managed Switches QoS to deal with network bottleneck
Good Day Everybody, I am in the process of planning a phone system for a small business (15 extensions - 4 PSTN lines [to be connected by ATAs]). The plan is to install an IP Phone everywhere there is an existing computer workstation - using the same LAN for phones and computers. The layout involves workstations connected to two switches (the unmanaged 'dumb' type) and the switches

QoS book
Hello all, Can anyone recommend a good book which thoroughly explains QoS from a Linux perspective? Something with TC examples & the like. I''ve looked at the following: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1580533418/qid=1148368189/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-2819973-6353768?s=books&v=glance&n=283155 Engineering Internet QoS. Thanks.

QoS script for gw without NAT?
I''ll take it from the begining... About one year ago I only had 1 IP and used wondershaper. It worked great. Now I got /27 (32 IPs) and a gw computer that talks to two ISPs via a two tunnels. See: http://www.flashdance.cx/pics/flashdance-LAN.png I _really_ have a need to do QoS on my connection, for example I host websites that uses all available upstream. When I download at the same

Per-process QoS on Linux?
Hello, I''ve tried searching for this but I don''t seem to be able to find a way to search past archives in this list. Is there a way to get a per-process qos functionality in linux? At this very moment, I''m using with success a kind of ''workaround'' in my server, which involves creating multiple virtual ethernet interfaces with different IPs and binding

MPLS QoS
Hi, i''m testing QoS MPLS on IP network. I''m confusing about what are features that permit Multi Protocol Label Switching to support QoS on a network. Can you clarify me it? In particular about the integration between MPLS and DiffServe Thanks in advance for the help _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl

RE: small kernel distro recommendations for QoS box
Why not try something like Pebble linux from http://www.nycwireless.net/pebble It is a stripped down Debian install that is aimed at running a wireless hotspot but it is just Debian and you can install whatever you want. It fits on a 64MB flash card but if you install almost anything you will want a 128MB one. It does come with iptables and iproute2 tools as I recall. Patrick

Considering starting business to support Linux QOS
Hi all, I find the whole QOS area quite fascinating and I''m considering starting a small business to try and push QOS solutions in general to small and medium sized businesses. I would of course be happy to push Packeteer and Cisco kit to those who want it, but to be honest the product of choice from a cost and functionality point of view seems to be linux I would appreciate any
