Better tools for authoring the view
I''m hand editing my .css and .rhtml files using SciTE and hitting refresh in my browser to see the results - its slow going. What tools are people using to author their .css and .rhtml files? Confused about extending the login generator ''user''
I''ve been using the login generator ''out of the box'' for simple authentication, and its been working fine. Now I want to extend it by simply adding ''type_id'' field which links to my ''user_types'' table, but I''m hitting: #<ActionController::SessionRestoreError: Session contained objects where the class definition

Ferret Win32 Gem for windows users ...
Hi and thanks for Ferret! I''m wondering if it would be possible to create a Ferret Win32 gem which includes the c performance code pre-compiled for those of us without a C compiler handy ? Zed Shaw seems to have cracked this particular nut with his Mongrel Win32 gem. Alternately, is there a zip of the Win32 .so Ferret needs that I could download and manually install? Kind Regards

Best practice to manage ''id'' hacking?
In my app, a user logs in [via the login generator] and has access to details of his account, and transactions attached to his account. This is achieved in the standard rail manner by passing the account id or transaction id between the controller and the view. But what is to stop someone hacking the URL or view html to access another account id or transaction id ? eg /account/show/46 becomes

add_limit (in acts_as_taggable) breaks in 1.1, solution?
Upgraded from Rails 1.0 to 1.1 and found that the (slightly modified) acts_as_taggable plugin breaks. The line add_limit!(sql, options) (in the tags_count method) causes this error wrong number of arguments (2 for 3) The documentation still says it takes two args, so I''m not sure what''s wrong. Adding logger.info("SQL here: " + sql)

SQLServer Timestamp parsing problem in sqlserver_adapter.rb
So, I''ve used Rails to tie into a legacy system which is on SQL Server 2000 with a required timestamp field, DBTimeStamp. The field is defined in SQL Server as type timestamp, but when rails is pulling it in, it appears it may be casting to a datetime format. So, when I try to read or write to the field, it gives me a parsing error: NoMethodError: private method

So my automated script caught this issue, though I think my email headers were bad, so rails-core has put the automated email on hold pending "moderation". Selecting datetime values from SQL Server (year < 1970)
All, Rails 1.1.6. Any AR find() call that generates a SELECT * type query against a table with a DATETIME column in SQL Server whose value occurs before 1970 will fail, because of the coercion of SQL Server datetime types to Time values in Ruby. See sqlserver_adapter.rb line 490 (record[col] = record[col].to_time if record[col].is_a? DBI::Timestamp) If I remove the coercion (just commenting

Error with :create => true and existing index
I implemented a "reindex" command which simply creates an IndexWriter with :create => true for a prexisting index. The "reindexing" seems to start out ok, with several thousand docs added, then Ferret throws an exception: IO Error occured: couldn''t rename file "index\_0.tmp" to "index\_0.cfs": <File exists> I guess that _0.cfs is held
