Yet another shaping question
Hello list,
I need to realize a complicated custom shaping setup, and given very
little experience with shaping I just can''t wrap my head around it. I am
not seeking a complete script, I just need an idea/a set of pointers on
how to best subdivide traffic accordingly to my needs, and which shapers
to place on every leaf. I am very experienced with netfilter and have
minor experience with

tc filter Questions
I''m attempting to set up a hierarchy of tc qdiscs with filters, but the
filters don''t seem to be working correctly. I''m running iptables 1.3.5
with iproute 2.6.16.20060323 on a Gentoo 2.6.18 kernel. The system
takes all my tc setup, but does not filter packets as I am expecting it
to based on my ruleset.
My tc qdiscs and classes are added correctly and report as

Thanks for quick reply Andreas!

Thats exactly what I want from HTB to do..to prio the borrowed bandwidth.

TC (HTB) doesn''t work well when network is congested?
Hi,
I have a server and ten clients in a Gigabit network. The server has
125mbps network bandwidth.
I want that the server has 40Mbps bandwidth reserved for client 1 (IP
192.168.5.141), and the
rest bandwidth is for all other clients.
My script looks like this (I use IFB for incoming traffic):
#!/bin/bash
export TC="/sbin/tc"
$TC qdisc add dev ifb0 root handle 1: htb default 30

tc filter problem with 2.4.22
Hi,
I have a problem with ''tc filter'' on a 2.4.22 kernel from Slackware 9.1
distribution.
The tc command binary is from htb3.6-020525.tgz
(http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb)
I''m trying the following command sequence:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 1 r2q 1
tc class add dev eth0 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 1200kbit ceil
1200kbit
tc class add dev

//Just to not forget eth0 is WAN and eth1 is LAN . The box is NATing my lan.
I configured tcng to shape both download and upload
and i got connection loss again.
Maybe it is my script fault or it is something bad with packets marking .
this is how i mark outgoing packets
iptables -t mangle -A MYSHAPER-OUT -p tcp -s 192.168.1.23 -j MARK --set-mark

htb2 -> htb3 problems
Hello!
I need to switch from htb2 to htb3, because of speed issues (for me,
htb2 is unable to handle more then 100mbit duplex with ~550 classes),
kernel profiling shows htb_dequeue_prio at 1st place with 3x isolation.
So, I''ve moved from 2.4.19 to 2.4.25 kernel (hi-pac for classification/marking
and htb3 for queueing), and traffic rate drop from 100 to 20mbit.
What can be wrong? The

multiple routing tables for internal router programs
Maybe a strange request, I''ll try to explain this as clearer as I can
(forgive my bad english, please :-) ).
I''m setting a linux box as a router. My router uses multiple routing
tables, so I can address the traffic from specific ip addresses of my
lan to distinct ISPs providers (specifying a different default gateway
fo r each table), marking packets with iptables

Joining Active Directory & wbinfo -u
Hi,
I was able to join the domain correctly and from what I Understand I should see it added as A computer on my
Windows 2008 Server PC. Is this true? But when I do a wbinfo -u I do not see my domain users listed.
I was wondering if this is because we installed winbind4 rather than winbind?
I installed samba4 and winbind4 in Ubuntu 11.04 LTS
Thanks for everyones help,

MARK target question
This is more of a NF question but it is tightly related to LARTC as well. In the following example:
-t mangle -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -j MARK 0x1
....
-t mangle -A INPUT -i eth0 -j MARK 0x2
Since MARK is a non-terminatring target, what would be the resulting mark on a packet comming from the outside and
destined for a local process?
Thanks
P.S. I agree, the example looks stupid, but on the

htb root don''t reach ceil rate?
Hello,
i have a htb setup where the root and (nearly) all child classes has a
ceil rate with max up from my adsl line. But the root class don''t reach
the ceil value but some childs are get a huge backlog.
My setup: (tc -d class show dev ppp0) [cleaned a bit]

One machine, two net feeds, outbound route selection
Hello, world!
Sorry to subscribe to the list only to immediately ask a question,
but this one''s got me scratching my head and I can''t find the answer
in the archives, the HOWTO, or on the web. Maybe I''m just asking the
wrong question.
Anyway, our Internet gateway is a Linux box. We''ve got two Internet
feeds, a fast one from a crummy provider, and a

Winbind can do everything besides lookup by name
Hi,
I have winbind joined to a Win2003 AD domain with rid idmap backend.
Almost everything's working. wbinfo -u and -g work fine, as does
getent passwd and getent group. I can also getent by ID number. The
only thing I can't do is getent by name, which is preventing logins:
root@services2:/etc/pam.d# net ads testjoin
Join is OK
root@services2:/etc/pam.d# getent passwd | grep david.croft

ceil, cburst, prio not working?
Hi, I''ve been using htb fine to separate outgoing SMTP traffic from HTTP
traffic so sending big emails doesn''t affect browsing. As long as ceil
== burst and the sum of all rates don''t exceed the root class'' rate all
is fine but when I incorporate ceil I would expect (from lartc howto)
that when other classes are idle the remaining bandwith would be

Determining burst/cburst HTB values
Hello.
I am wondering if the default (auto-computed) burst and cburst parameters are appropriate values for my application.
I have a 100 mbit interface which is connected to a 16 mbit uplink.
I am sharing this bandwidth into a set of partitions (tc classes) defined as follows:
