C6.6 Gnome panel problem
Hi all!
I usually keep the panels on my Centos 6.6 (Gnome) so they auto-hide,
but t'other day I wanted to keep the top panel visible for a while to
make the clock visible for doing some rough timings.
so I open the top panel, click properties, and UNcheck the "autohide"
checkbox, close the properties menu, and to my surprise, the panel
still autohides. Went thru that exercise

auto hide gnome desktop TOP panel - solved
I turned on the auto hide of the TOP panel on gnome desktop.
I does hide but I still see like 2 or 3 pixel lines of the panel???
How can I completely hide the top panel?
I tried change the number of pixels in the panel it always still shows
a couple pixel lines.
I have a dell inspiron 8200 laptop.
THanks, for any suggestions.

Bottom panel on new C7.3
Hi All,
I run these commands for previous 7.2 to hide the bottom panel.
gconftool-2 -t int --list-type int --set
/apps/panel/toplevels/bottom_panel/auto_hide_size 0
gconftool-2 -t bool --list-type bool --set
/apps/panel/toplevels/bottom_panel/auto_hide true
It does not seem to be working any more... I am seeing the panel.
Thoughts?

weird characters in files created by gnome login on samba share
Hello,
I just tried a gnome login with an empty home directory on a samba
mounted directory, and this resulted in several files with strange
characters in the filenames in the end. (as created by the initial gnome
login)
I cannot reproduce this by hand, and it certainly does not happen when I
do the login on a local directory, or when I copy that local directory
to the samba directory.
I use

Annoying gconf/ccsm behavior
Fedora 10 ships with compiz and launches it as: compiz
--ignore-desktop-hints glib gconf
This causes compiz to load the glib and gconf plugins at startup. This
works fine.
The problem arises when the gconf database does not include those
plugins in /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins. What
happens is that the plugins get loaded at startup, and after all the

Disabling user switching in CentOS 6
Installing CentOS 6 on a lab full of workstations, and I want to disable
fast user switching. With CentOS 5, I simply made sure that the
"user_switch_enabled" entry in
/etc/gconf/schemas/gnome-screensaver.schemas was set to false. However,
that doesn't work with CentOS 6.
I've found various proposed solutions to this issue, such as

Compiz ignoring changes in gconf in Opensuse 10.2
Hi,
I have recently upgraded to Opensuse 10.2 from 10.1
and all the changes that I am making in gconf have no
effect on compiz. I am running compiz as a window
manager in kde and I have followed the instructions
for running compiz in Opensuse 10.2.
However if I change in session manager the preferred
window manager to kwin and then put compiz.desktop in
Autostart directory all the changes in

X just died then restarted
Just had a weird thing happen that I've never encountered before.
Running Centos 5.x (updated) on 32-bit (Athlon XP).
Was going along in Firefox when suddenly my screen went black and the hard
drive light came on mostly steady for several seconds. After a little bit
I got back the X login screen. It normally comes up on F7, but F7 was dead

Include option type in gconf schema
I am writing a configuration front end for the compiz gconf plugin at the
moment, but it's proving harder than it should be because gconf does not
record what type of compiz option the key is. For example, say i want a
color picker for each color option the only way I can tell with gconf if it
is color is if it has a # at the beginning, but there could be string
option which also have a # at

Telling virt-manager to re-read ~/.gconf in RHEL 6
Hi all,
I've written a tool that configured Virtual Machine Manager, but I've
got a condition that I am now sure how to handle...
If the user isn't logged in and I configure their
~/.gconf/apps/virt-manager/*, and then they log in, everything works
great. However, if they've already logged in and there was no prior
virt-manager configuration, the custom config is overwritten

No window decorator
Hi,
With latest compiz updates i can't get gtk-window-decorator working.
I add gwd gconf keys I saw in list archives :
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/compiz/2006-October/000627.html
No success.
I use this script to start compiz :
killall gtk-window-decorator
gtk-window-decorator &
export __GL_YIELD="NOTHING"; compiz --replace --use-cow gconf &
Compiz load but

meta data update
The switch to the new metadata system is almost complete. All plugins in
the fdo repo except plane and ini have been converted. I'll probably go
ahead and convert those plugins as well sometime soon unless the
original authors of those plugins tells me not to.
The horrible gconf-dump plugin has been removed and replaced by a simple
xslt stylesheet. gconf schemas are now generated from the xml

Post unification
Hello Community
Congratulations everyone for the reunification.
To kick off the process, shall we finalize channels we are going to
use for communication so that all the developers involved know what is
going on and where. Which ML and IRC would be used for 'semi-official'
communication etc.

New Action system
It seems, and I might just have a weird system, but I doubt it, that
the new Action system in compiz git head is a bit weird. On a clean
install, not only do options like "resize_initiate_bell" show up in
gconf, but the actual action binding options don't work. For example I
can't set resize_initiate_button to anything but its default (the key
changes in gconf, but resize

setting up auto logout in CentOS 6
I would like to have my lab workstations logout a session after the person has been idle for a certain period of time. After some searching on the web, I got into
/etc/gconf/schemas/gnome-session.schemas
and set the default value of max_idle_action to ?forced-logout?:
