Universal Binary on OS X
Since the PPC Macs are no longer being produced and my PPC build
machine is getting a little old I thought I would try making a
universal version of the Mac OS X gem.
After a little investigation it turned out to be surprisingly easy to
do, just pass --enable-universal_binary when building wxWidgets and
add -arch ppc -arch i386 to $extra_cppflags and $extra_ldflags in
rakemacosx.rb.

Packaging with mongrel
Hi All
First of all - I would like to say Mongrel is fantastic! We are developing a hybrid solution incorporating a central server and local servers (which allows offline working) - with Webrick we were suffering from 500 (and other errors) that the switch to Mongrel has fixed.
Since we are providing the local server as a download application we wanted to find a way to package up the code and

How to chain user mouse handlers in rgl
Dear Rglers,
With rgl, I would like to set marker when a button is pressed, but leave the
standard trackball handling otherwise. Thanks to Duncan and Oleg for helping
me handling key down.
How do I say in a custom mouse handler "after having done your work, forward
to standard trackball once only"? The example below shows the idea, but it
works only once, then reverts to standard

Hi !
I''m new to this mailing list !
I''m just beginning to learn ruby programmation, ( so far mainly coded php
web apps, and math algorithms with Caml ), so i''m a noob about libraries,
toolkits, etc ....
I wondered what does the end user need to run wxruby applications ?
_ On Windows, he''ll need the ruby interpreter ( such as the one click ruby

accidentally created a rails app in the home folder
Im a new user - I just installed rails, following directions here:
http://rubyonrails.org/download
however, when it came time to make a rails new path/etc/etc I get this
message:
Can''t initialize a new Rails application within the directory of
another, please change to a non-Rails directory first.
The only complication during the download was that I had to upgrade from

System V Init Script
Hey Listees,
I have a question (hopefully quite simple) about the system V init scripts
in /etc/init.d. I have an app installed and for some reason it had no system
V init script. It has been installed a long while now so I can't quite
remember whats going on but basically I remember I wrote the init script my
self and the app is enabled as a service which chkconfig to run at system

Trouble with dialog based application
Hi,
A long time ago, I made some MFC GUI programming ...
There was basically 2 kinds of application :
- dialog based application : a simple app based on a dialog (without
menu, toolbar, status bar ...)
- frame based app (Single Document or Multiple Document) with menu,
toolbar, status bar ...
I tried to make a dialog based app with wxRuby but the application
never exits !!
The following code

Deploying to a staging server using Capistrano: how to start up BackgrounDRb?
Hi.
I am using BackgrounDRb to process thumbnails and upload to S3 -
things are hunky-dory in development (thumbs are generated, these are
uploaded to S3, the metadata is saved to trhe DB, and I get a nice
status page updated by periodic calls via ask_status), but when I
tried to deploy to our staging server and stop/start BackgrounDRb via
Capistrano, things blew up - well, not exactly,

rails command version pegging?
Hello,
Is it possible to declare the version of Rails used with the seminal
"rails /path/to/my_app" command?
For example, I now have 1.2.1 and 1.1.6 installed on my machine. If I
run "rails my_app" I get 1.2.1 produced skeleton code. Is there a way
to get 1.1.6 results?
Regards,
Andy Koch

DOS box popping up under rubyscript2exe
Hello
My email has been broken for a week and some of it seems to have gone
astray - so if there are other unanswered wxruby queries kicking about,
please repost or forward me them.
I have encountered this problem with a DOS box popping up under rubyw /
rubyscript2exe; I don''t think it''s related to wxruby. I found them
popping up when shelling out with backticks - I believe

"no camping required" deployment?
Hi,
So Lennon got me going with my database-less Camping app,
but I''ve just realized that, I have no deployment strategy.
This app is to provide a GUI front end to our FUN3D fluid
flow simulation monster, which is used by ourselves, companies,
universities, hobbyists, and the military. The end result
of which, is a file of (key, value) pairs read by FUN3D.
Requiring our users to have

distributing rails apps for localhost usage
Has anyone come across any interesting ways to make rails apps easily
distributable to run on a local machine. I''d love to be able to
"bundle" my rails app into a single file that would contain a simple
webserver, database and my rails app which a non-experienced user could
then download install on their machine, go to a web browser and run the
app locally. I envision it
