Madwifi drivers afeter 2.6.18-128.
I have a atheros wiifi card on my Centos 5 that I use as a access point using hostapd. I noticed that after the upgrade to kernel 2.6.18-128 or above, the atheros driver comes with the kernel, ath5k, and it does?t let hostpad ou iwconfig set master mode on the card. Up to kernel 2.6.18-92 is workedd just fine using madwifi from rpmforge. Any ideas on that? Tks.

testing wireless security
I have been playing around with 3 ath based FreeBSD boxes and seem to have got everything going via WPA and a common PSK for 802.11x auth. However, I want to have a bit more certainty about things working properly. What tools do people recommend for sniffing and checking a wireless network ? In terms of IDS, is there any way to see if people are trying to bruteforce the network ? I see

Network Settings in Wine
Hi! I'm using Slackware 11 and Wine 0.9.40. The problem is, Wine is not detecting my network settings, though it(Internet) works fine in my Slack. i can access the entire network (Company's), see the sambha shares in my slack, but when i try to run "ipconfig" or "ping", i got an error saying it was trying to user ICMP and this would not work unless used as root. hostapd or other AP software for Centos
Is there a recent rpm available for hostapd? I found 0.6.0 over at atrpms.net via rpmfind. Actually a more recent ver than available for FC8,9, or 10! But http://hostap.epitest.fi/hostapd/ shows the current version is 0.6.7. And does anyone have this running on Centos? Is there a 'better' AP software? I have the Atheros card in my notebook for this....

Strange behaviour of Samba3 with wireless clients
I have built my own wireless AP with Ubuntu 7.10 and an Atheros-based wireless card. My problem is that I can't access any of the Samba shares with my wireless clients...they can all search for the server, get prompted for a login then it just hangs and eventually times out. The same clients, when using their LAN ports to connect to the same server, are able to do everything--browse and

Shorewall DNAT to IPSET
I would like to dnat certain protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SSH) to the contents of an ipset (lan:+serviceshost or similar) where the ipset is ensured to contain only one host, but can be changed dynamically when services are in maintenance mode and go to the "services are down" message on another server. Will this work, or am I barking up a fish here?

selinux issues
Please see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727648 for more info. Shorewall executes some bash code like the following: while read address interface external haveroute; do qt $IP -4 neigh del proxy $address dev $external [ -z "${haveroute}${g_noroutes}" ] && qt $IP -4 route del $address/32 dev $interface

Dual ISP config: How to forward DNS requests to the proper server?
I''m using Shorewall with a load-balanced muti-ISP config along with LSM for failover. It''s working great, except for DNS requests. I''d appreciate some advice on how to best configure this. The WAN connections are a T1 through XO and a cable connection through Comcast. About 80% of the traffic is routed out the Comcast connection under normal connections. I would

Recommendation about an usb wireless adapter to use it as HostAP
Hi all, I would like to install/test CentOS 7.X as a hostap for my home. I am thinking to use an Alfa (http://www.alfa.com.tw) usb wireless adapter or TP-Link. BUt there is not much information in Alfa's or TP-Link's web sites about which of them can run as a HostAP. If I can find any adapter that supports ac with a throughput of 150 Mbps/300Mbps, it would be great. Any recommendation?

Unable to Access Inet via HostAP
Hello, Thanx in advance to anyone who can help me get this going. I have tinkered around and around with this and I have it functioning as a visible access point that I can connect to. My problem comes in when trying to access the internet. I''m not an iptables guru or anything but I got the following as my iptables startup to supposedly masq the connection correctly:

Stronger security with BSD Firewall and Freeradius
I've seen that is possible to use switch port blocking with freeradius and cisco switches via 802.1X and EAP protocol. Here is more info: http://wiki.freeradius.org/FreeRADIUS_Active_Directory_Integration_HOWTO What if I don't have switch that supports 802.1X or I want that blocking is done by FreeBSD, not the switch. Because FreeBSD is the firewall or gateway to some networks. Is there

shorewall will be in the next openSUSE release
Hi, Just to pass the news [1],shorewall firewall package will be part of the next openSUSE release, meaning users would not need to set up an extra repository (of course they can always choose to follow the development repo). Thanks to all answering my questions Togan [1]<http://lizards.opensuse.org/2011/08/05/factory-progress-2011-08-05/>
